MUSES – MUsic Skills Enhancement Scheme This Scheme aims to empower student learning through active participation and experience in music-making. All CCA Music students are required to take part in activities under the MUSES Scheme. I. Friday Lunchtime Concert Series – Regular Friday lunchtime performance events will feature performances, seminars, workshops and demonstrations by visiting artists, staff and students and as a regular feature of the HKIEd campus, with free admission for all.
IV. Chamber Alive School Outreaching Performances - School outreach project, aims to provide a platform for students to showcase their performance and to implement their teaching ideas in workshop setting. V. MUSES Chamber Award - Set up to encourage chamber music performance and practice among students and to achieve high standard of performance in chamber music. Students can form their own team and enter the competition. VI. Canopy live – Regular Tuesday lunchtime performance by HKIEd students and faculties. The series enables appreciation of arts by members of the Institute at close range at leisure and enriches the cultural ambience of all of us. All are welcome to enroll as performers.

II. Performing Groups - structured as a course requirement, CCA music students are required to take active part in different performance activities by joining departmental performing groups.
III. Concert Practice - Opportunities are provided for CCA student musicians to practise and showcase their solo performance talents. Students will be involved in collaborating and managing the concert organization from the preparation stage to on-show performance.

Ensembles Students have opportunities to join the Symphonic Band, Orchestra, Chinese Orchestra, Handbells Ensemble, Recorder Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble and various choral groups (Amabile, Bella, Choraliers and Singers) Chamber Singers, Vocal Jazz Ensemble and I-Orchestra and give performances regularly.

Overseas Exchange and Immersion Programmes

Overseas exchange and immersion programmes are sponsored by the Institute for music students to experience a variety of music and music education practices internationally. Overseas trips to China, Canada and USA were organized in previous years. More recent visits were to Australia, countries in Asia, North America and Europe for a semester’s study exchange, and for immersion programmes at the University of Washington (Seattle), The Oberlin Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College, Butler University, and Borough of Manhattan Community College (City University of New York), USA (2006 to 2010). Many overseas students came to study our Music courses in the past years, one of the exchange students from Butler University (USA), Bryan Charles Grimm had his Chinese music composition “Salted Cheek” selected as one of the final compositions for the Department’s Artistic Excellence Award (Composition) Competition.

Music classes in the Instrumental Studies are taught by experienced and professional instrumental tutors. Frequent seminars, workshops and master-classes are presented by distinguished overseas and local scholars and musicians. In past years, many international and national artists have exchange activities with us, including Jane Davidson (2006-07), Zhu Jian’er (2006-07), Pamela Burnard (2007-08), Keith Swanwick (2008-09), Sarah Hennessy (2008-09), Nancy Lamers (2009-10), Richard Runkel (2009-10), Liora Bresler (2010-11), and New Zealand Trio, US Jazz Musicians, etc. Community Arts and Sports School (CASS) aims to provide life-long visual arts, music and sports education to the communities in Hong Kong. Through creative teaching and learning, participants will have a chance to enrich their life by exploring and experiencing cultural and creative arts. We offer "Mobile CASS" to communities and organize many other courses on a regular basis, including the highly popular "Music Fun for Kids/ Children", "ABRSM Theory Music Grade 8" and "Trinity Guildhall AMusTCL".

We provide Education Plus programmes, which include integrative arts, jazz, creativity and innovation in music. Our graduates are highly sought after by schools and other arts organizations. A majority of the graduates enter the music teaching professionals, and many of them have also pursued or completed postgraduate programmes in local and overseas universities.
