Since 1955, the Colombian American Chamber of Commerce -AmCham Colombia- has been a partner to U.S. companies doing business in Colombia. It works to strengthen the business climate in Colombia, advocates for its members, and facilitates a dialogue with the public sectors of Colombia and the United States. It also provides up-to-date information and analysis through its committees, events, and publications. AmCham organizes networking events and provides other services designed to facilitate business contacts among its members.

The Center offers market access studies that provide information on the market for a specific service or product, including background on the sector, sales data, main distribution channels, bilateral trade, treatment under the FTA, and regulatory requirements. It also responds to requests for customized market research.

Its more than 1000 member companies nationwide include leading U.S. and Colombian companies from diverse sectors of the economy. AmCham Colombia is based in Bogotá and has branches in Barranquilla, Cali, Cartagena and Medellín. It is a member of the Association of American Chambers of Commerce in Latin America (AACCLA) and is affiliated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The AmCham Trade and Investment Center helps companies identify and develop new business opportunities in Colombia and the United States. The Center provides the following services to member and non-member companies:

Identification of Business Contacts The Center helps U.S. companies identify business contacts in Colombia, including potential distributors, representatives, wholesalers, importers, and suppliers. This strategic service identifies companies according to the profile sought by the U.S. client and provides a list that includes a brief description of the company, the name of the appropriate contact person, phone number, email, address and company website. For an additional fee, AmCham will contact the Colombian company to determine its interest in being contacted by the U.S. client.

Business Matchmaking Service AmCham assists U.S. companies with the development of new business opportunities in Colombia by identifying and qualifying potential business contacts, including direct sales prospects, distributors, representatives or sales agents. AmCham will schedule meetings in the offices of the Colombian companies over the course of one or more days according to the needs of the U.S. company, and can also assist the company with contracting with local transportation and interpreters.

Colombia: A Growing Market for U.S. Exports and Investment Trade Missions The Center organizes multi-sector and industry specific trade missions designed to help U.S. companies enter or expand their presence in the Colombian market. It schedules one-on-one meetings with potential business contacts that meet the target profile sought by the U.S. company participants, and assists with contracting hotels, local transportation and interpretation services. In addition, the Center can organize briefings on doing business in Colombia as well as sector-specific or legal issues. The agenda may be designed to include technical site visits and a networking reception or luncheon, according to the needs of the client.

The U.S. - Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA), in force since May 2012, leveled the playing field for U.S. exporters through tariff reductions, improved market access and created a predictable legal framework and improved protections for American investors. Colombia is one of the most attractive markets in the region due to its sound macroeconomic policies and steady economic growth over the past decade. The government has implemented policies which have succeeded in attracting increased levels of foreign investment and has diversified its trade relations. The country has a growing middle class, a population of more than 47 million people and is strategically positioned with ports on both the Caribbean and Pacific coasts.
