2014 FDA Manual

High Value Resources The AOPA Strategic Initiatives have produced valuable information to help you work smarter and increase profit margins. This information is available at no charge to AOPA members and many of these products are available for a fee to nonmembers. Download these free resources at www.AOPAnetonline.org or use the order form on page 15 to receive a hard copy version.

The FDA Compliance Manual is a 52-page comprehensive manual to understanding the FDA as it applies to Orthotic and Prosthetic Professionals. Specifically, this manual focuses on FDA’s authority over medical devices and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) required under 21 C.F.R. 820 “Quality System Regulation.” The manual includes background information related to the question of whether GMPs apply to O&P patient care facilities and why AOPA believes FDA’s GMP regulations do not apply to O&P patient care facilities. The manual also provides useful guidance on how to comply with the GMP regulation, in combination with a GMP Self-Inspection Package, FDA Compliance GMP Storyboard and a copy of the applicable regulation. In addition, there is a section which provides specific details on what to do if an FDA investigator appears on the premises to conduct an investigation. Provided electronically.

Different Business Models “How TO” Series

Topic 1: Buying or Renting Business Assets Topic 2: Are There Ways to Reduce Your Insurance Costs? Topic 3: O&P Professional Liability Malpractice Primer Topic 4: Selecting the Right Legal Form for Your Practice Topic 5: Selected Wealth Preservation

This DVD and accompanying white paper will teach you to work smarter and increase profit margins. The overall goal of this project is to equip AOPA members to overcome the barriers inherent in current service models. Current models have caused profit erosion which threatens quality patient care because of difficulties associated with managed care, administrative burdens and Medicare requirements. This DVD and white paper discuss redefining the traditional roles of the technician, support staff and practitioner in order for facilities to generate more revenue per practitioner, work smarter and increase profit margins to keep pace with the increasing demand for quality patient care.

The purpose of the Different Business Models Initiative is to develop a comprehensive list of alternative revenue generating business practice models that patient care provider members may consider in terms of expanding or broadening their traditional base of business. Presentations are available on how to implement these models in various settings: • Introduction to the Various Business Models • Introduction to the Various Business Types • How Do I Add Mobility to My Practice and What are the Benefits? • How Can an O&P Institutional Based Branch Be Incorporated Into My Practice? • O&P With Ortho-Care Products: Out Patient Surgery Center Model • Physical Therapy Collaboration With an O&P Practice • O&P With Wound Care/How Can Wound Care Become Part of My Practice? • Functional Electric Stimulation: How Can FES Become Part of My Practice?
