A TRINIDAD, B ENGUET – The tragedy in sitio Elizabeth, barangay Taneg, in Mankayan, Benguet again unearths the ugly tale of the “Benguet gold rush”.

Even Mankayan Mayor Materno Luspian, who has been in the lead of rainsoaked rescue and retrieval operations for eight more of his townspeople still underneath the wet mud, admits they are caught between livelihood of their people vis-à-vis care and responsibility to the environment.

At the height of typhoon Ineng, a huge chunk of the mountain in sitio Elizabeth rolled down to at least seven shanties where at least 18 miners were temporarily housed for their “camote” mining (small scale).

Even at first, authorities stumbled into great difficulty in knowing how many miners are missing, where exactly were they working, and especially their real names.

Retrieval operations were on a hit-or-miss venture scouring on the wet mud for a very wide expanse in the area.

LA TRINIDAD, B ENGUET – Naalarma ang mga magsasaka ng Benguet sa sinapit ng kanilang pananim matapos itong salantain ng hagupit na bagyong Ineng kamakailan.

Halos mawalan ng pagasa ang mga magsasaka nang makita nila na wala nang mapapakinabangan sa kanilang farm kaya ang iba ay matiyagang pinipili na lang kung ano ang maaari pang maibenta, subalit sinamantala naman itong ibenta sa merkado na may kataasaang presyo upang makabawi man lang.

Sa kahilingan ng mga magsasaka na humiram ng pandagdag puhunan sa kanilang pangkabuhayan sa mga kooperatiba at organisasyon ng magsasaka ay hindi pa rin sapat ito para matustusan ang mga pangangailangan.

Kasabay na nagdeklara na rin si Benguet Gov. Nestor Fongwan ng State of

Calamity dahil sa magkakasabay na trahedyang naganap na gumuho ang lupa sa Kennon road at kumitil ng buhay sa Cordillera.

Umabot na sa bilyong piso ang naitalang pinsala na mga ari-arian kasama ang mga pananim na sinagasa ng bagyo sa Benguet.

Sa kahilingan ni Fongwan ay inimbitahan ang secretary ng Department of Agriculture para makita at maiharap sa mga magsasaka kung ano ang maaaring maitulong ng gobyerno sa kanilang hinihiling na pangkabuhayan.

Agad namang binisita ni DA Secretary Proceso Alcala ang mga lugar na sinira ng bagyo at agad rin nagpatawag sa mga kooperatiba at organisasyon ng mga magsasaka upang alamin ang mga problema sa kanilang pangkabuhayan.

Nabuhayan ng loob ang mga magsasaka sa tugon ni Alcala para makabangon muli ang mga nabiktima sa pananalasa ng bagyo.

“The Consumer Act of the Philippines prohibits pyramiding schemes, which are defined as sales devices whereby a participant makes an investment for the right to recruit others, with profits from the scheme being derived primarily from recruitment rather than from the sale of consumer products, services or credits,” diin ni Avelino.

Smart engineers gear up for disaster readiness and emergency response As the country gears up for typhoons and potential disasters, Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) intensified its disaster readiness programs for its network engineers and emergency response teams.

Aimed at sharpening the survival and rescue skills of its field engineers, Smart has been running a series of trainings for its network crew to prepare them for extreme scenarios like typhoons, earthquakes and massive flooding.

“When disasters strike, we are usually the first ones deployed [on-site], so it is very important that we are ready to deal with extreme scenarios and that we are all the more equipped with the task of ensuring that our wireless services are always up,” says Rowel Selom, head of Smart’s Network Operations and Emergency Response Team (ERT) in North Luzon.

After completing practical courses on first-aid and heights safety, Selom and his team of network engineers recently hit the scenic terrains of the Sacobia River in Pampanga for a two-day course on offroad driving.

Aboard their fleet of speciallylifted 4x4 trucks, these Smart engineers received classroom training and actual driving instructions from Pampangabased off-road driving league Club Overland. Particularly, they were taught various techniques in driving up and down steep hillside terrains, traversing The Smart engineers candidly pose after a day’s worth of exhilarating driving drills. through high current streams and rescuing stuck vehicles.

“We learned a good mix of science and practical knowledge in off-road driving. And with all the drills, we have learned the importance of staying alert and maintaining presence of mind, even when going through extreme scenarios,” says Smart ERT member Ryan Asperas.

Meanwhile, Smart’s Assistant Vice President for Logistics Jess Sarmiento says that the company is also beefing up on its fleet service to include powerful and customized vehicles that can operate under extreme conditions.

“We have started to invest more in 6x6 vehicles, aligned with US military standards and specifications, and continue to expand our fleet of custom 4x4 service vehicles that can traverse meter-high flood levels,” Sarmiento expands.

After Typhoons Ondoy (Ketsana) and Yolanda (Haiyan), Sarmiento says that Smart gained a lot of insights from these two typhoons, and has been allocating more resources to upgrading its vehicle equipment so that their personnel can respond more quickly during disasters, particularly for network restoration and emergency response.

According to Smart Baguio Technical Operations Center Engineer Allan Difuntorum, these earlier preparations came in handy for their operations amid the recent Typhoon Ineng (Goni) which hit Northern Luzon. “Our engineers were able to respond even more quickly and travel safely to those areas that needed restoration and emergency assistance.”

BCC celebrates 110th anniversary thru empowerment of PWDs By: Melanie Anga-angan

Almost a hundred persons with disabilities were given assistive devices in an advocacy program towards selfreliance and empowerment on August 29, 2015 as part of the Baguio Country Club’s 110th anniversary celebration.

The user-friendly assistive devices include 41 blind canes, 33 talking wristwatches, 15 wheelchairs, four talking BP apparatus, four prosthetic devices and a pair of crutches, all ensure maximum aid and comfort to PWDs. This advocacy program is a joint project of different organizations like Physicians for Peace, Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints Charities, Akap Pinoy, Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, PGH Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, De La Salle Health Science Institute, BCC and the local government of Baguio.

According to Ted Herbosa, chairman of the board of Physicians for Peace in the Philippines, the program was a result the private sector, non-profit organizations and the local government working together to help persons with disabilities.

He said the wheelchairs, crutches and canes were provided by the LDS Charities and the prosthetic devices came from Physicians for Peace, while the local government, headed by Mayor Domogan and Councilor Richard Cariño, communicated with social workers to identify the beneficiaries who are really in need; BCC provided venue as part of their celebration for their 110th anniversary.

Mayor Domogan, in behalf of the city government of Baguio, expressed gratitude that there are people who are concerned to individuals with disabilities. He expressed hope that the program will be sustained.

“We continue to work together and continue to help those in need,” he said.

According to LDS Charities, the wheelchairs come with foams and wheel pumps and some other tools for maintenance along with the manual; the blind canes are reflectorized. These devices that were distributed to the PWDs can last until five years.

Some of the charities’ members may visit the homes of the beneficiaries to ensure that the devices are still in working condition and may recommend replacement for broken and unfixable items.

Before the program ended, Herbosa announced that the advocacy program will be a yearly event at the Baguio Country Club.

The program was also attended by Baguio Councilor Richard Cariño, Physycians for Peace Executive Director Lynne Abanilla, LDS Charities members, BCC General Manger Anthony de Leon, BCC employees and the local media.

Council invites BGHMC on funding issue

The city council has scheduled a legislative inquiry on Monday to tackle issues surrounding support funding being given to the premier government hospital in the city, the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC).

The inquiry stemmed from an oral motion made by city councilor Roberto Ortega during the regular session of the august body last August 17, 2015 seeking to invite Dr. Emmanuel Acluba, MD, MHA, Medical Center Chief of the BHGMC in relation to the possibility of asking nearby regions to help defray the expenses of the said government hospital.

The motion was made during deliberations on the Memorandum of Agreement established between the city and the BGHMC regarding the annual appropriation of financial assistance in the amount of 7.5 million pesos and which was supposed to be confirmed by the council.

During the said previous council session discussion by the members centered on the continuing financial

assistance being given by the city government of Baguio and the fact that the said hospital caters not only to the residents of the city but to other clients from the various provinces and regions in Northern Luzon.

The suggestion for other provinces or regions to share in the burden of supporting the operations of the BGHMC originated from an observation made by city councilor Fred Bagbagen who noted that since BGHMC is a regional hospital and its funding should also be shared by the other regions concerned and not only the city of Baguio.

The suggestion also came at the heels of the observation from other city councilors that priority should be given to residents of the city in availing of the facilities of BGHMC. The observation however was critiqued by other members of the august body particularly city councilor Ortega who maintained that the hospital should operate on a first come first served basis depending on the urgency of the situation.

Councilor Bagbagen likewise noted that it is city funds which is being used in supporting the operation of

By: Katrina Tabas Narciso Racraquin Padilla, better known as Nars Padilla, was born on October 31, 1931. He is the son of the late Teofilo Madriaga Padilla from Tubao La Union, and the late Leonora Racraquin Padilla from Lingayen, Pangasinan.

He is married to Consuelo Bermudez Padilla and a father to five children.

He has been the sports columnist of Sun Star Daily Baguio’s Kafagway Roundup since 2003; a stringer at Philippine News Agency since 1996; and a freelance reporter at Sun Star Daily Baguio and Profile Northern Luzon Magazine.

Padilla graduated from Bonifacio Elementary School on 1994; went to Baguio City High School and graduated on 1949; college at Baguio Technical and Commercial Institute with Elementary Teachers Certificate, 1953; United Sates Naval Training Center, California, USA, 1954; took Liberal Arts at Baguio Colleges Foundation, now known as University of the Cordilleras, 1956; and graduated with honors at 10th National Training School for Professional Scout Executives National Council Boy Scout of the Philippines, 1958.

The man that he is From being a shoeshine boy, newsboy and waiter during the 1940s, Padilla became the man that he is–the cream of the crop.

He became a teacher at BTCI and BCF; an enlisted personnel of United States navy; a dynamic freelance reporter of Baguio Midland Courier, The Mountaineer, Baguio Monitor, and Baguio Sun; a special events coordinator and broadcaster at DZWT 540, Mt. Province Broadcasting Corporation; a vibrant correspondent and photographer of The Manila Chronicle, Philippine News Service, Philippine News Agency, The Manila Journal, Times Journal, The News Herald, The Tribune, Daily Globe, and Today; an executive editor of Baguio Vibrations Weekly and a sports columnist at Skyland News, Baguio City.

He pioneered in developing Boy Scouts of Baguio-Benguet and started immense tree planting activities to mitigate climate change and to make the province “in with green”; he then became the regional director of Boy Scout of the Philippines-Northern Luzon chapter; and the chairman for Media Committee of Annual Fil-Am International Golf Invitational Tournament.

“Once a boy scout, always a boy scout… sa isip, sa salita at sa gawa,” he said.

These ventures ran from 1950s to mid-2000s.

He was also a government employee from 1972 to 1979 as the city tourism director and among the city councilors of Baguio, 1992-1995.

Jounalism per se As a journalist, he was not spared from death threats and extortions that came with the profession. He recalled that the most memorable and trembling experience he ever had was when he received a call saying they threw away the corpse of his daughter in a ravine. “But good thing,” he said, when he got home, his daughter was there.

Amidst the dangers and threats, he continued to be an honest, just, balance, factual and dignified journalist.

“I’m happy that the Lord guided me and I’m still here despite those threats,” he said.

All around the world Being a boy scout, sportsman, an advocate and a government employee led Padilla to travel all around the world.

He established his own name due to his outstanding contributions like heading the Philippine Special Olympics Team to the 5th International Summer Special Olympics held at Brookport, New York wherein they won five gold medals and three bronze medals.

He had been to California, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, England, Greece, Rome, Paris, New York, China, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan.

A civic leader

He is still a member of Board of Trustees BARF Foundation, 2010 to present; adviser of Pandaigdig Kapatiran Sikaran-Arnis ng Pilipinas, 1999-present; officer of National Correspondents Club of Baguio, 1986-present; leader-trainer of the Boy Scout of the Philippines and England since 1994present; executive chairman of the Annual Kafagway Sports Awards Program, honoring the most outstanding athletes and sportsmen in the City of Baguio and the Cordilleras, 1986-present; executive chairman of the traditional “Silahis ng Pasko sa Baguio”, a project focusing on tourism, culture, and sports and educational activities since 1972-present, and the like.

Recognitions Padilla is a multi-awarded resident of Baguio and Benguet, who was a recipient of over 75 awards from various agencies and organizations, achievements that he got from his chosen endeavor and initiated advocacies.

He got the Most Outstanding Citizen for Community Service Award, City of Baguio Charter Day 82nd Anniversary rites, 1991; Everlasting Award for Outstanding Community Service, 100th Anniversary Celebration on the Province of Benguet, 2000; Life Membership Grant, Order of the Arrow, Michigamea Lodge 110, Peasepipe District 6, Calumet Council, Boy Scouts of America, 1997; Leader Trainer Fortmature on 1994; Plague of Commendation, 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Liberation of the City of Baguio, 1995; Certificate of Distinction, Presidential Arm on Community Development (PACD) Office of the President during the reign of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, 1969; Knight of the Year Award, Knights of Columbus, 1963; Plague of Appreciation, Gintong Alay project, 1983; Gintong Tala Leadership Award for Tourism, 2003; and Certificate of Heroism from Baguio Press Club and Boy Scout of the Philippines-National in 1960.

These accomplishments never got into his head. He made these as his backbone instead and did other activities for the general populace.

“A man can only be happy if he shares his happiness to make other people happier,” the living legend said as he continued his bequest. ABN

Padilla is indeed a civic leader, a vehicle of change who embodies every entity, a living legend.

For him, these are the top 10 on his list: He was the brainchild of the development of the Shrine of the Brown Madonna at Km 7, Asin Road, Tuba, Benguet, 1986; organizer of the multi-awarded “Silahis ng Pasko sa Baguio”, a Christmas season program in the city, 1972-present; initiated the construction of the architect Daniel Burnham monument, 1994; head of the construction of the historic Col. Lyman Kennon monument at Kennon Road, Baguio City, 2004; led the construction of 1990 Earthquake Heroes Marker at Km 7, Asin Road, Tuba Benguet, 1992; brainchild of the “Baguio Hymn Writing Contest”, a special feature of the 82nd Charter Day Anniversary of Baguio City which led to the establishment of Baguio Hymn and Baguio March, 1984; executive chairman of Baguio Charter Day Celebration, 1992; executive program officer of the first Filipino-Japanese Friendship Celebration in Baguio City which was sustained in 2011-2013, 2009; initiated the Baguio Elderly Assembly (BEA) “Parangal” program naming the Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, American coach Freddie Roach, and Filipino boxing luminaries Gerry and Dodie Boy Penalosa and Nonito Donaire Jr. as foster sons of BEA, 2009; and executive chairman and program coordinator of Kafagway Baguio Summerbest Holy Week Religious Tourism Program, 2003.

These are some of the highlights on the things that he made for the betterment of the city, its people and the sports enthusiasts.

Lolong: The epitome of all ages By: Katrina Tabas Henedino Jaime Rudio Luzano, alyas Lolo Doro or Lolong, was born on May 14, 1947 in San Isidro, San Nicolas, Pangasinan. He is the son of the late Don Mariano Ilasin Luzano and Doña Maximina Serquiña Rudio.

He is a partner and a blocktimer of ECarta Media Productions and Promotions’ “Tambalan program” aired daily at 98.7 ZRadio, a FM radio station; a columnist of SunStar Daily Baguio’s Karet Ken Kayetket every Monday, and Daplis Walang Mintis with Amianan Balita Ngayon, a weekly newspaper.

The birth of Lolo Doro

Luzano graduated valedictorian at San Isidro Elementary School; graduated with honors at Tayug National High School; and at Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT), now Mapua University, with Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree, with some units in Journalism.

Upon graduation, he was employed at the Manila Electric Company but did not last long due to other interest.

“Ayaw ko talaga ng kurso ko dati,” he claimed.

“Naunahan kasi ako ng ate ko na kumuha ng journalism, kaya kahit na ayaw ko ‘yong course ko, pinagpatuloy ko na lang. Tapos ‘yong ate ko, hindi naman niya natapos ang journalism kaya kumuha na ako ng unit kasi hilig ko talaga ang pagsusulat,” he added.

With his literary talent, he wrote poems and sent those to the infamous Ilocano magazine, Bannawag.

Writing poems then extended to essays, short stories, features and novels.

One of his works was entitled “Balay ti Katawa”, one of the longest published novels during the mid-60s.

He was one of the pioneering members of the Gunglo’t Mannurat-Ilokano.

He was a columnist of the Baguio Daily Vibrations and attended Radio Reporting Training Program which was sponsored by the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism at University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna.

On the late 60’s, he started writing Ilocano drama and co-authored “Magsaysay, Bannuar ti Pagilian” which was aired at Northern Broadcasting Company (NBC) DZWX. It lasted until 1980s.

In 1967, he was the anchorman of Patiempo-tiempo ni Lolo Doro, early morning program; announcer of Mr. Carinoso, at noon; an adviser of Kung Ako Ang Tatanungin, in the afternoon; and the voice of Mahal Mannalig Ka, in the midnight.

He established his own name through creating original programming wherein he was the old guy, mid-40’s guy, and a nine year old kid at a time: making him the epitome of all ages.

They were named Lolo Doro, Jimmy and Francis respectively.

He acquired his name Lolo Doro through his favorite comedian, the late Doro de los Ojos who was known as a broadcaster in Manila.

At NBC DZWX, now known as Bombo Radyo, he was a reporter, announcer, commentator, program director, scriptwriter, and a drama talent sometimes.

He was then sent to the island of Hawaii, where he established an Ilocano radio station which was aired for almost two years.

When NBC was acquired by Bombo Radyo, his funny personality was changed into a firm personality due to the new format, commentary program.

In early 1993, he was promoted as station manager and after five months, he was promoted as area manager for Northern Luzon of Bombo Radyo Philippines which lasted until 1998.

He stayed at Bombo Radyo for 12 years until he was asked by the management to retire, for he reached the age of retirement.

“Lahat na yata ng puwedeng posisyon sa isang radio station nakuha ko na… Noong nagretire na ako, alam ko na hindi pa ‘yon ‘yong katapusan ng career ko bilang media practitioner kaya andito pa rin tayo,” he said.

Folks of danger

“Nagpapasalamat talaga ako sa ating Poon kasi hanggang ngayon eh ako’y buhay pa,” he said humbly when he told his life-threatening experiences.

Just like most of the journalists, Luzano also experienced death threats.

“Nangyari ‘yong isa noon diyan sa Burnham. ‘Yong report ko noon, ukol sa anomalya sa pondo diyan,” he recalled.

“Pati doon sa dating Hyatt Terraces. May nagtext sa akin, sabi kung talagang matapang ako, daan daw ako doon ng 10AM. Syempre dinedma ko pero dumaan talaga ako doon noon kasi magko-cover ako sa John Hay… tapos ‘yan na,” he added.

Good thing, what happened to him was given justice.

But one of the things that he would never forget, was the time that three married women approached him to seek help because their husbands were captured by NPAs. It was in 1987.

“Sabi ng mga misis, papayag lang daw sa negosasyon ang mga kapatid nating NPA kung ako ang pupunta doon. Gumawa tayo ng research at napag-alamang meron talagang mga na-captive na mga ganoong pangalan,” he said.

With that, as an advocate of peace, he went to Abra alone.

“One month ako doon. May mga news pa nga noon dito sa atin na kesyo patay ako o nawawala ako,” he claimed.

He became the voice of the NPAs whom he described as dignified and helpful beings.

“Buhay-mahirap talaga doon… pero nagtutulungan talaga sila pati ‘yong hindi nila kasamahan tinutulungan nila, libre pa,” he uttered.

He went up and down from the mountain to DCPA to relay the messages that the NPAs wanted to bring into government’s attention.

After such negotiations, he made some of the NPAs surrender.

But there was another unending impunity for he faced the new challenges that the government accused against him.

Awards and citations

With Luzano’s career, he received prestigious awards and certifications from different institutions.

Some of these included the first Anchorman of the Year Award, Bombo Radyo, 1987; Presidential Award, 1988; Outstanding Anchorman and News Analyst, 1989; Best Anchorman, Rino Arcones Award, 1990; Loyalty and Service Award, 2000; Anchorman of the Year, Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club (BCBC), 2006; Nanay Rosa Journalism Award, FRB Foundation Inc., University Of Baguio, 2007; Best Commentary, BCBC, 2008; Outstanding Senior Citizen of Baguio, Baguio City Government, Baguio Elderly Assembly and National Correspondents Club of Baguio City, 2008; Lifetime Award, BCBC, 2010; and Most Outstanding Citizen of Baguio, 2013.

He never failed to setback the unbeatable individual ratings based on surveys made by Kapisanan ng mga Broadkasters sa Pilipinas and other agencies.

He has formed different organizations like Jefferes Club of Baguio, Photographers Club of Burnham Park and the Pangasinense Organization of Baguio.

He continuously did outreach programs to give back to the community.

The gifted

Apart from being an announcer, scriptwriter, poet and columnist, he is also a composer, singer, and plays some musical instruments; talents that augmented his schooling.

He did karate and body building as well.

In the field of songwriting, he worked with Imelda Papin, Vivian Pe, Linda Magno, and Rey Valera.

Some of his compositions which were established in the music industry are the “Katarungan” and “Duwa Nga Ayat”, Can’t Be With You Tonight’s Ilocano version.

Now, he is planning to revive his composed songs.

Off the airwaves, pen and paper

Luzano never forget to thank his family, relatives, friends and supporters. He never forgot where he started.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa kanila pagkat hindi nila ako iniwan. ‘Yong tagumpay ko ngayon, tagumpay din nila,” he said with a smile.

Off the airwaves, pen and paper, he described himself as a simple “palengkero” who bought everything they needed in the market.

He loved being there because he could see all walks of life and it made him nearer to the Creator.

“Nakakalungkot mang isipin, iba na ang dyurnalismo ngayon. Isang porsyento tulong sa madla, 99 porsyento sa sarili. Masyado na tayong komersyalismo,” he said while shaking his head due to the present state of journalism industry.

Because of this, he stirred the aspiring media practitioners to put back the real essence of media world: not being blinded by money, fame and material things, but always ferret out the truth, serve and give back to the public. ABN

“2. That respondents ROGELIO U. LOPEZ and LEA CABATIC A. LOPEZ are spouses, both of legal age, Filipinos and residents of Barangay Sanchez, Asingan, Pangasinan where they may be served with notices, order and other legal processes of the Honorable Court. They are the parents of female petitioner; Respondents CORNELIO G. CARIAGA and EMMA ANDRADA-CARIAGA are likewise spouses, Filipinos, and are residents of No. 180 Atok Trail, Baguio City, Benguet where they may be served with notices, orders and other legal processes of the Honorable Court. They are the parents of male petitioner.

They are impleaded in this suit as indispensable parties, whose hereditary rights will be adversely affected by the correction/s sought by the petitioners in the CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH of their minor daughter SOPHIA ANTOINETTE L. CARIAGA; “3. That the Office of the City Civil Registrar of Baguio City is a government office/agency in charge with the recording of events that affect the civil status of individuals, and with office address at the City Hall of Baguio City, Benguet and herein impleaded as a nominal party; “4. That petitioners have a child, SOPHIA ANTOINETTE L. CARIAGA who was born on November 30, 2014 in Baguio City as evidenced by her CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH, photocopy of which is hereto attached and duly marked as ANNEX “B” and made it an integral part hereof; “5. That just recently petitioners noticed that in the CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH of their minor daughter, there are erroneous entries and omitted entries or were not provided with details. Particularly the complete maiden name of mother was erroneously indicated as “LAARNI MAE ALCANTARA LOPEZ”. The identity of the father and his other personal circumstances, date and place of marriage of parents, and the middle name of their minor daughter were omitted or were not provided.

“6. That petitioner LAARNI MAE L. CARIAGA recalls, that right after giving birth to their daughter, she was never asked about the identity of her husband and their date and place of their marriage. She likewise forgot to tell the same to the midwife who assisted her in giving birth because she has not fully regained her consciousness due to the medical effect of anesthesia. Consequently she noticed the aforesaid erroneously entries and omissions only recently; “7. That the following erroneous entry should be corrected and the omitted details should be provided in the CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH of minor SOPHIA ANTOINETTE L. CARIAGA, to wit; a. That the aforesaid erroneous entry and omitted entries in the CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH of petitioners’ daughter SOPHIA ANTOINETTE L. CARIAGA are obviously committed through inadvertence on the part of the one who prepared her CERTIFICATE OF LIVE BIRTH and which could be rectified/supplied by reference to other public documents; “9. That in order to straighten the public records of petitioners’ daughter SOPHIA ANTOINETTE L. On the basis of the foregoing, the petitioners pray of this Honorable Court that after due notice and hearing, an Order be issued directing the Office of the City Civil Registrar of Baguio City to correct the aforesaid erroneous entry/provide the aforesaid omitted details in the Certificate of Live Birth of minor Sophia Antoinette L. Cariaga, particularly her mother’s maiden name, her middle name, her father’s identity and other personal circumstances and the date and place of marriage of her parents.

Finding the petition to be sufficient in form and substance, let the same be heard before the Regional Trial Court, Branch 59, Baguio City on December 1, 2015 at 10:15 o’clock in the morning at which place, date and time, the petitioners shall prove their case. Any person interested may appear and show cause, if any there be, why the petitioner should not be granted.

Let a copy of this Order be published at the expense of the petitioners in the Amianan Balita Ngayon, a newspaper of general circulation in the City of Baguio and in Benguet Province once a week for three (3) consecutive weeks.

Likewise, let a copy of this Order, together with a copy of the petition and its annexes, be furnished the Honorable Solicitor General, Makati City, Metro Manila, the City Prosecutor of Baguio, the City Civil Registrar of Baguio City and the private respondents.

SM honors lolos and lolas in longest Grandparents’ Day celebration about the good old times but

o a Filipino, family comes first and family is everything.

And being a country well known for its strong family ties and great respect for elders, SM Supermalls gives its shoppers the longest Grandparents’ Day celebration, where grandmoms and granddads take the spotlight in all of SM’s 52 malls nationwide.

From August 31 up to the actual Grandparents’ Day on September 13, a string of “grand treats” await the whole family to cherish and enjoy everything that lolos and lolas love.
