is echoing the call of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for voters to verify the status so they will not be disenfranchised this coming May 2016 elections.

Aliping made the call as the Comelec disclosed that thousands of Baguio voters may lose the right to vote next year because they still need to complete their biometrics.

The Comelec explained that on February 15, 2013, President Benigno Aquino III signed into law Republic Act 10367 which mandates that all voters must have their biometrics taken in order to ensure that their votes are protected.

“This means that when you go to your local Comelec office to file an application, your biometrics data will be captured using the Comelec’s Voter Registration Machine (VRM). The VRM makes use of a digital camera, a fingerprint scanner, and a signature pad to capture your biometrics,” Comelec officials explained.

“Due to this law, all previously registered voters without biometrics are required to subject themselves to biometrics capture through the validation procedure. All concerned are given until October 31, 2015 to comply

Without the biometric information in the Comelec’s data base, the poll body will be forced to cancel or deactivate the concerned voter’s registration record and will not be allowed to vote in the May 2016 elections.

This call is encapsulated in the #NoBioNoBoto campaign of the Comelec which aims to spread awareness of this requirement to all voters in the country.

“Next year is a very important election year because we will be choosing our next president and vice president who will lead our country for the next six years. Our future depends on all registered voters voting according to their free conscience,” Aliping stressed.

He said voters may verify their voter’s registration record and find out if they still need to visit the local Comelec office and have their biometrics taken by simply visiting the Comelec website and click on the Precinct Finder facility of the site.

“You can also directly visit the Comelec office along Gov. Pack Road to see for yourself if your biometrics have been captured,” Aliping added.

“The new measure included provisions on electronic cigarettes (Ecigarettes) and provides clearer definition of open spaces where smoking should be banned, among other changes and refinements,” dagdag niya.

The city council on Monday is scheduled to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation regarding City Ordinance No. 026, series of 2007 promulgating the use of paper bags, buri bags and other biodegradable bagging containers in all supermarkets, groceries and other related retail business establishments in the City of Baguio by Year 2012.

The inquiry stemmed from a proposed resolution introduced by city councilor Fred Bagbagen entitled, “Inviting General Services Office (GSO - Solid Waste), City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO), Baguio City Public Market Superintendent’s Office (CTO), Baguio City Market Vendors Association (BAMARVA), BaguioBenguet Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (BBCCI-BAGUIO), Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB), Bishop Carlito Cenzon, Convenor of the Baguio We Want, Ma. Buena Victoria T.

Tenefrancia, CoConvenor, Solid Waste Cluster, The Baguio We Want, or their duly a u t h o r i z e d representatives, respectively, as resource persons to shed light on the implementation of Ordinance No. 26, series of 2007 and for other matters.”

While the inquiry will focus on the implementation of the no plastic ordinance of the city discussion is also expected to include a proposed legislative measure authored by city councilo Elaine Sembrano seeking to amend section 6 of ordinance no. 26, series of 2007, as well as a petition letter submitted

by Ms. Ana Isabel Caguicla, et al. entitled, “An essential step to clean up Baguio: Implement Ordinance 262007”, which was originally forwarded to Hon. City Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan on 22 July 2014, and subsequently referred to the city council.

It can also be recalled that the city Mayor had previously expressed the desire to have the no plastic ordinance amended since reports show that the use of paper bags may not be the best choice to replace plastic bags and that using

biodegradable plastics and other alternative materials should also be considered.

When the city government of Baguio conducted the information campaign for the implementation of the no plastic ordinance in the city back in 2011 it drew mixed reactions from the public as well as stakeholders in the city.

Meanwhile the city council has also invited resource persons on another inquiry to be held on Monday, this time with regard to the terms of reference and conditions for the security services at Burnham Park and its premises. The matter is related to an earlier resolution adopted by the council asking the City General Services Office to provide a list of security providers, their respective posting areas, and their contracts with the city government of Baguio for information and guidance.

The invited personalities for the said inquiry include Mr. Romeo Concio, City General Services Officer and Chairperson of the Bids and Awards Committee for Goods and Services, PS/Supt.

Pable, UCCCVMB Chairman “Pagtulong sa kapwa,” ito ang puso at kaluluwa ng United Christian Credit Cooperative of Visayas, Mindanao and Bicol (UCCCVMB) na binuo ng mga Kristiyanong mga tagaVisayas, Mindanao at Bicol na matagal nang naninirahan sa Baguio-Benguet.

Ang karanasan ko bilang chairman sa isa sa pinakamalaking kooperatiba sa Visayas (PEMCI) kung saan naranasan ko ang tunay na pag-unlad ng aking buhay ang nag-udyok sa akin na gawing kooperatiba ang samahan.

Subalit, pinabatid ko sa aking mga kasamahan na hindi ang kumita lamang ang aming adhikain kundi ang tumulong sa kapwa, lalo na sa mga nangangailangan.

Noong Pebrero 16 ay pumanaw si Jhon Paul, na hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa pinaalam kay Erika dahil sa malubha niyang kalagayan. Umabot si Erika nang halos limang buwan sa intensive care unit ng BGH hanggang siya ay inilipat noong Hulyo sa Philippine General Hospital sa Maynila. Nitong Agosto ay naiuwi si Erika ngunit labas-pasok pa rin sa BGH dahil sa maselan niyang kalagayan.

Dito nasubok ang tatag ng samahan ng UCCCVMB na umalalay sa mga gastusin ng pamilya mula sa paglibing kay Jhon Paul hanggang sa mga gamot ni Erika.

Bunsod ng maigting na paghahangad na lalo pang makatulong sa pamilya Dacutanan, ang UCCCVMB ay naglunsad ng Concert for a Cause para sa patuloy na gamutan ni Erika.

The Court Social Worker of this court is directed to conduct a Child and Home Study Report and said report should be submitted to the Court before the initial hearing of the petition set on October 22, 2015 at 9:00 o’clock in the morning.

WHEREFORE, petitioners are directed to meet with the Court Social Worker for the conduct of the Child and Home Study who is likewise directed to submit her/his report, incorporating therein her/his recommendation and submit the same to the court, furnishing a copy therefore to the trial prosecutor deputized to represent the State.

SM Rosales salutes elderly on Grandparents Day

eries of activities to salute grandparents and champion the cause of lonely elderlies were conducted at SM City Rosales.

Just in time for the grandparent’s day celebration, over 400 elderly from Villasis stage a grandwalk at the mall’s perimeter. After the walk, the elderlies showed that they can still groove as they join the Zumba.

Meanwhile, indigent elderlies of Rosales were given free medical and dental checkup during the mall’s employee volunteerism program in partnership with Rosales Health Unit and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Rosales.

Early Christmas gift for Rosales’ indigent elderlies were presented by SM Rosales during the Employee Volunteerism Program (EVP). The elderlies had undergone medical and dental check-up with free medicines. They were also granted groceries and reading glasses. The SM EVP is in partnership with Rosales Health Unit and DSWD Rosales.

SM employees extended their appreciation to the elderlies by assisting them on their check-ups and granting them grocery items.

Free reading glasses were also given as an early gift.

These activities also aim to create awareness among grandchildren and the youth to further their love, and tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide.

The city’s enforcer cannot seem to address the traffic problem due to the monstrous mushrooming of transportations, and the scattered slow-paced road repairs in the city just add to the misery of commuters. Residents here are urging the city officials to do something about this problem.

Angeles led the turn-over ceremony of the newly renovated Operating and Delivery rooms, Cadet/ Officers Ward of Fort Del Pilar Station Hospital and the donation of medical equipment and supplies at the Philippine Military Academy recently.

PMA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Oscar P. Lopez said that the hospital was accredited as Level 2 Hospital by DOH but downgraded to Level 1 last year due to the condition of its OR/DR Complex. With SM Foundation’s aid for its renovation and refurbishment, the hospital will requalify to be upgraded again to Level 2 this year.

The 50-bed capacity ward offers a primary level hospital facility capable of performing general surgical operations, providing medical services in the field of general medicines for PMA cadets, military personnel and their dependents and authorized civilians.
