we are all responsible to take As the times goes by, we can get part in taking AMSA-UI older or we can get 'more through this experienced'. And the second one transition time. is what I believe happening to us, AMSA-UI. In the beginning of 2014, we are challenged to face a new step of our journey. With new leader, new members, and new structure, we are all responsible to take part in taking AMSA-UI through this transition time. I believe from now on, we will become a more stable organisation in terms of membership and structure. So in the future, AMSA-UI will be ready to face even bigger challenges and do more and more and much more.

This year, we are focusing ourselves on the internal of AMSA-UI. Improving our communication, spend more quality time together, and also reward and punishment system will be the methods that we try to achieve our goals. I personally hope that every member will participate and take part in doing this work and together we can achieve more. Let us all guard AMSA-UI on every step of its way, including this one.

Day 2 - We went to Samsung Medical Center for keynote lectures about chronic diseases. After those lectures, we went to the well-known Gyungbok Palace for sightseeing. We also had the chance to enjoy Seoul through group activity, which depend according to the group moderators. Day 3 - We started this day with paper competition presentation. After feeling the tension, we had hospital visits to famous hospitals in Korea. Having amazed by modern technologies there, we also got the chance of enjoying the Korean style traditional dinner. Day 4 - The competition continued with health campaign and scientific poster while others could enjoy international booths from each country. After those activities, we went for a community service on the street with freezing air! After warming up, we closed the day by enjoying beauty of Korea night from the highest place, Seoul N Tower. Day 5 - The last day started with a Group Discussion at KUMC for about 5 hours, followed by a closing ceremony. The announcement of winners was given in the closing ceremony. Meet Your Mentor Meet Your Mentor is a novel event created by Academic division of AMSA-UI to prepare AMSA-UI in IMSTC (Indonesian Medical Student's Training and Competition). This event was held on Friday, January 3rd 2014 at Parasitology Lab room. There are presentations about the competition and sharing from our seniors who have won several competitions in national or international competition. We also motivated members to join this competition. Last but not least, we had some snacks while discussing preparations for I M S TC to increase togetherness and friendship in AMSA-UI.

Preparation for International Competition PRICE is a routine event and usually held twice a year. To support the International events such as EAMSC and AMSC, PRICE helps members to create ideas based on the theme of the events. By understanding the theme given, it will be easier fot the future participants of EAMSC and AMSC to join the competition. In the last PRICE event held by AMSA-UI, we had some sessions related to the theme. First is a short lecture. In this lecture,we got information about the main issue and its aim related to the problems. By knowing the unsolved problems, future participants of EAMSC and AMSC will be easier to determine the topics to be brought. Second, after the short lecture, we had group disscussion with a trigger given. In this discussion, the participants were expected to create creative ideas that could be brought to EAMSC and AMSC. This brainstorming session ended with feedback from the resource person. Third, the AMSA-UI once ever held a workshop on ďŹ lm making with Adobe Premiere. This activity was held only once, but got a good response from all AMSA members in attendance. Fourth, to motivate potential participants for EAMSC and AMSC, there was also sharing session by winners of the competition in the previous year. The motivators also showed the results of his work so that it could be used as an example of good work and prospective participants could estimate the expected standard of work in the AMSC and EAMSC.

Event of the Year

In Indonesia, there is not enough attention from doctors & governments to them.

“Grow Your Awareness” was our tagline of EOTY for celebrating World Autism Day. To start this campaign, we printed a big banner of Anti Autism Bullying Society. From early February, we asked the students, staffs, doctors, and even local people to sign or give comments on the banner.

The final event was held at Tri Asih Foundation, Kebon Jeruk. It houses 25 persons with special needs, ranging from children to elderly. “Children with autism, ADHD, and Down syndrome could act and learn normally if they are given the right treatment and attention,” said one of the parents there, “In Indonesia, there is not enough attention from doctors and governments to them.” The session continued with a seminar from Dr. Dian Widiastuti Vietara, SpKJ from RSCM. While parents and therapists were attending seminar, the people with special needs were given a simple seminar about how to wash hands properly, brush the teeth, button up shirt, and make up bed. Then they went to their rooms for practicing the lesson. It was all worth it because they can washed their hands properly beforehaving lunch. After lunch, we distributed paper and colored pencils to those people and asked them to draw their parents’ face or things they like. We were amazed to find out that they have the capability to learn like normal people. In the end, both we and the residents of Tri Asih Foundation really appreciated the opportunity to spend a day together.

Indonesia Medical Students’ Training & Competition This year, IMSTC was held from Febuary 27th to March 2nd at Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani. Most delegates of AMSA-UI arrived on Febuary 28th and headed straight to The Historich, Cimahi, for the Food Festival. During this event, delegates from all districts mingled while enjoying traditional food and music performances. The next day is Academic Competition, and AMSA-UI was able to send their best delegates to this competition and took home several awards. These awards were presented during Farewell Party, in which delegates could relax and hang out with delegates from all six districts. We also visited cultural booths, with six booths representing each district. District 2, lead by Janice Tanumihardja, attracted the crowd as it offered the underestimated game of Indonesia hopscotch, a.k.a. Engklek. After the party, most of us went back to the hotel to get their beauty sleep, while AMSA-INA EB and representatives geared up for their Rapat Tatap Muka which lasted until 2 AM.

It was a weekend lled with academic thrills, new friendships, and cultural enrichment.

On the last day, we gathered in the lobby, dressed in orange attire to engage in the Social Act – heading to Car Free Day Dago to give education about post-disaster diseases and its management. As the day became increasingly hot, it indicated the conclusion of IMSTC. We returned to the hotel and said goodbyes to each other, making plans to reunite at AMSA's next national event: National Leadership Training, in Universitas Brawijaya. Overall, it was a weekend filled with academic thrills, new friendships, and cultural enrichment.

English Club Premiere

It is not just meant to look good and show ourselves off, but to respect others.

On March 13th, MnD held its annual event: E-club. It is a place where members can improve their English while gaining skills not commonly learned elsewhere. This year’s theme, “Professional Image”, was meant to give better understanding about what and how to create professional image. Members often have to represent AMSA-UI in numerous national or international events. We are expected to present ourselves well, hence, keep the good reputation of AMSA-UI. Therefore, we want to equip each member with the expected qualities through this theme. It is also open for all IKM FKUI. The event was held in Anatomy Classroom from 5 PM. Dozens of participants came, including 36 members, 60 youths, and 16 non-member. Dra. Indah Soekotjo, Msc was invited as a special guest speaker. She taught us the importance of maintaining our appearance. It is not just meant to look good and show ourselves off, but to respect others. People will feel more comfortable and respected when we make the effort to look appropriate while meeting them. After the seminar, we had some mini games for fun. The event was then closed and participants were given dinner. Hopefully, participants actually learn something from this event that is useful and applicable in their daily life.

English Club Youth With the ongoing regeneration of AMSA-UI, the Youth held their very first E-club on April 12th in Depok, making it the first E-club to have been held in the Depok campus. This was no ordinary event, as it was a chance for Youth to work as two teams in the “Battle of the Best”, and impress members. Without a doubt, members were in for a treat, starting with Team A on “Microexpressions”, where we learnt the science of lying and deception, and how to catch them. Then Team B with “Disability Awareness”, specifically hearing Impairments, which made us appreciate the gift of hearing even more. From deceiving people to learning sign language, many skills were provided by excellent speakers.

Although she could not say anything, her face and hands spoke a thousand words.

Each team also had their set of games that were fun and related to the theme. During Team B's games, many hand movements could be seen as if they were transmitting information through sign language. Whereas Team A left the seniors with bruised hands which, although painful, were worth the fun. In addition to that, we celebrated a special birthday of the team B speaker. Although she could not say anything, her face and hands spoke a thousand words. It was a combination of talk and games that led to the success of both events, however there could have only been one winner, and this year the crown was taken by Team B, with their amazing concept of Disability Awareness. Overall, this year's Youth E-Club was a successful one, and surely one that will be remembered for a long time.

AMSA Day Amsa Day was held at June 22nd in Harapan Bagi Bangsa elementary school with the theme “Bright: Knowledge to Ignite”. As our theme says, we aim to make students to have a brighter future by exposing them to a reading environment since early age. For this year's AMSA Day, we donated books and built a mini library as the main event. This year's main event is also very special, as we also drew and painted the walls ourselves, mainly by four talented Youth. We also managed to gather a lot of books with different genres, courtesy to the Youth and AMSA members and we also provided the library with carpets, bookshelves, and computer tables. We started with an ice-breaking game at 8 A M in the morning, and there are approximately 30 very enthusiastic s t u d e n t s participated. After the games, we taught the students to make handy craf ts for decorating the library, they made pop – up wish cards where they wrote their dreams and hopes in the future. They also made origami birds, flowers and snowflakes for wall decorators. After the craft making session, we divided them into teams and educate them about sex education, child molesters' case and the danger of smoking and drugs. Each team was assigned two tutors. After the education session, they had to make scientific poster consisting of what they had learned which will be competed against each other. At the end of the event, we surprised the students with the new comfortable space where they could spend their time reading in.

We aim to make students to have a brighter future by exposing them to a reading environment since early age.

World Hypertension Day AMSA-UI held “WHD: Concern Yourself!” as our participation to increase quality of community health. It was held on Kantor Kelurahan Gunung Sahari Utara, June 7th, with people at age 30-55 as main target because these ages are the most risky one. There were 51 locals participating this event, mostly were women. We started the event at 7 AM with aerobic exercise. After pouring sweats for an hour, it's time to cool down and take a break. After that, we did blood pressure test and height-weight measurements. Then, a counseling about “Risk of Hypertension” was delivered by dr. Ni Made, Sp.PD. During question and answer session, participants were actively asking not only about hypertension, but also other health problems like stroke and emergency care. The last event was focus group discussion between participants and our senior. They gave education about hypertension and interpretation of the blood pressure, weight, and height data. This event bring us a new perspective about community health. Although they are not poor healthcare area, they still need our concern as future healthcare providers that they have health problem that need to be solved too. We hope that this event can bring benefits to both members and participants, and see you at another PRSS event!

words to inspire your mind

eye opener from INDIRA MAKES Ambassador of Public Health District 2 2013/2014 [17]

How did it all start?

I was actually inspired by Jenisa Kamayana, APH District 2 of the 2012/2013 tenure. Seeing her involvement in AMSA Indonesia encouraged me to apply for the title of Ambassador of Public Health. From there, it was pretty much an enjoyable journey, starting from picking a campaign theme, brainstorming campaign execution methods, and actually promoting my campaign, 'Take A Step Back.'

How do you feel about it? It was truly a wondrous experience, and I believe I wouldn't have been able to be where I am right now without the help of my AMSA seniors, particularly Jenisa Kamayana, Natasha Marianne and Abinisa Taim.

What have you done as APH? After being elected as APH AMSA Indonesia, I was able to work together with the other APH from 6 districts as well as with the LO for NGO, Kamajaya Mulyana. Activities include promoting global as well as national health campaigns through social media such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as meeting with non-governmental organizations to arrange partnership and programs with AMSA Indonesia. Being an APH also significantly broadened the scope of my AMSA experience, as I was always finding new friends from the different districts, and sharing thoughts and ideas.

What will you do next? Right now, I am busy with the upcoming APH project, which I have to say, is indeed challenging, but exciting as well (stay tuned for APH Project 2014!). All in all, I am very thankful for this opportunity, and would like to thank everyone who has enriched my experience as part of AMSA Indonesia. Viva AMSA!
