Isolation and Depression

Page 1

There are a number of factors that start putting people down such as professional failures, heartbreaks, relationships, parents, spouse, children or any life incidents or trauma that instantly puts you down. Becoming down is not a problem, it is alright to feel down, but the issues start when you start avoiding people, you stop looking after yourself and you think that ignoring the issues is a solution. Isolation or social withdrawal acts like a trap. It is not a way to deal with your problems as it would only strengthen the negative thoughts. And as time passes, you become adjusted to this loneliness and your mind start playing tricks on you and an initial depressive phase starts. You find it easy to avoid people, avoid work that need to be done and you think everything is fine because nothing is worrying you and you are at peace with your isolation. But it is not, look at the broader picture and you will see a pile of pending work, your deteriorating ability to deal with people and problems. In isolation you are just getting depress and it is solving nothing. Instead it is harming you in ways even unknown to you. It is making you handicap, shedding your strengths and abilities. It makes you weak against the monster called depression. When you do not look after yourself, you start feeling that you are ugly, when you stop completing your work and it pile up and you see the piled up work and think that you are incapable of working, when you stop meeting people you start thinking that they do not love you. But believe me this is not the case. There are people around you who care about you and you yourself have send them away to find peace in your isolation. You are perfectly capable of doing anything, it is just you are not doing it on time and the tasks are easy but it’s just your lazy butt that is not moving. Depression is not a good thing, sometimes unavoidable but the depression that we befall on ourselves because of isolation and loneliness is the worst kind. We can deal with it and it just require a little motivation and will power. Try doing following things and it will help you fight back more effectively; 1. Cleanliness; the most important thing it is. Shower yourself, make your hair and wear a nice dress, put on a little make up too if you are a girl. Now not only treat yourself but also clean your room and the kitchen too. Make your surroundings look neat and clean too. Cleaning definitely keeps you busy and also makes you feel good at the end. 2. Communicate; it is also very important, do not shut people out. Do not think about people as your enemy. It is true that not everyone can empathize but stop looking for affirmations from everyone for your tragedies and deal them with on your own unless you find someone who is ready to share your burden. Do your catharsis but never bombard the next person with your issues as everyone has their own too. 3. Time-management; again very important one. In isolation and loneliness wasting time becomes our best hobby. But it do no good to you and you are strangling yourself with so many unfinished projects. 4. Exercising; helps you best as it does not involve people or your mind. Your hormones will adjust themselves and lift your spirits up enough for you to keep moving. 5. Meditate; spend time with nature and make sense to yourself that the time will heal all the pain and nothing is permanent no failure no sorrow. You will go through this and your isolation and depression is only hurting you and harming you more than anyone else.

Do not put too much pressure on yourself as the forces of depression and isolation also working in full force to keep you down but struggle and fight back these demons do not let them get you. That would make you the bravest and courageous person you will ever know because only you and you know your battles.
