Women and Workplace

Women and Workplace The industrial revolution introduced women to the workplace. But what kind of work? The clerical, nominal, part-time and low-grade jobs. Also, the jobs that require cheap labor. And centuries after the situation is the same. The women are still not acceptable at the leading roles. Take a look at any leading industry, organization, or community you will see men holding an office of authority and position. Even the developed countries with great political histories lack women in offices’. Even the Oval office lack women representation.

Lack of women’s participation in politics

There is a glass ceiling that women can’t seem to go above. Even though the women have always proved to the world their power to lead and make this world a better place as compared to the men leaders. Just like the recent example of the Prime Minister of Newziland reaction to the Muslim massacre crisis at Christchurch proved that women are much more capable of handling and responding to the crisis situation with tolerance, compassion and by strong decision making. She proved the world leaders that they can learn from her response.

PM Jacinda Ardern reaction to Christchurch Crisis won the hearts of millions around the world

But this is not about politics alone. Even the big corporations and organizations claiming to promote women in leadership roles have no idea what women go through at the position of power and authority. First, the stereotypes regarding women’s leadership never leave them alone. But before their performance, they are already labeled as bossy, jealous or a dry person. And the isolation that they face at the organizations, deliberate isolation at the hands of their peers who prefer to have a male co-worker to discuss their ideas, who drop women from important meetings or ignore them at the workplace. And the blame that women do not support women in the workplace. But the question is why? The answer is very simple. There are very rare opportunities for women in organizations so they have to be cruel to move forward and compete for that one opening along with thousands of women. They have to go above and beyond to prove themselves as compared to their male coworkers.

It is important to increase the participation of women in every sphere of life organizations, industries, politics etc. And take them as normal human beings participating in the society or progress of a nation. It is high time we stop seeing women on the base of the stereotypes and do not judge them on centuries-old perspectives. Acceptance is the key to development and progress. Patriarchy must admit that women are capable, compassionate and strong human beings. And to prove themselves, they do not need to go above and beyond or always do the wonders to claim their place in society. Open the doors for young girls and help them grow financially independent. Create opportunities and inspire them to be anything. Do not shatter the dreams of aspiring girls. Just because the world cannot offer them a place of position and authority and reduce their status to nominal jobs. Create a balance in society. And help to put an end to a lot of other social stigmas and evils.
