My own unique interpretation of fashion is based around the notion of pattern, texture and shaping of the garment; I am particularly interested in both traditional and modern techniques to add to the garment, defining beauty in its own way. Juxtaposing the organic, free flowing style with unusual materials and shaping to make the design my own, by futuristically challenging the fashion world and the ‘usual’. Making my design’s aesthetically pleasing to the eye, using integrate detailing in elements of the garment to create layers of simplistic ideals of deeper meaning and thought. Expressing design through illustration is a strong passion of mine which is still developing from inspiration on a day by day basis. Creating illustrations by hand, using mixed media that are mainly continuous line styles, creating integrate detailing within the illustration which is open to the viewer’s interpretation.

Northen Youth Fashion Show Finalist Hard Magazine put together a charity event for refugees that involved a fashion show. I illustrated a design based on the theme ‘of the land’ and was chosen as a finalist that made their design and got put on the catwalk at the event. Special guest Anna Wintor attended the event to help raise money.

‘Contemporary Context’ This was a first year module that involved using the trend ‘elemental’ off WGSN to collaborate with a designer. I chose ‘Bora Aksu’ for inspiration and looked at the romantic, elegant and poetic integrate detailing they portray. The brief was to combine a trend and a designer to influence the final outcome of a shirt. I took Aspration from the ‘elemental’ trend of the natural forms that informed the lines, panels and bias binding on my final shirt. ‘Bora Aksu’ inspiration was taken from the idea of layers and fine details; flounced collar and cuffs were designed in the garment as well as using panelling and pin tucks.

‘Project B’ The brief was to do an illustration based on the word or colour black. Here I created an illustration recognising racial equality in fashion inspired by Alexander McQueen’s collection ‘Its a jungle out there’. The illustration went on exhibition at ‘Lamberts Yard’ an innovative, independent store in Leeds. I was the runner up in this event.

Hawes and Curtis Collaboration. This Collaboration brief was to design a shirt based on the modern women. The modern women is a working women that may or may not have a family, however lives a busy life style. This design focuses on a shirt that you can wear fitted or none fitted for comfort to suit the daily life style. Whether that’s doing the school run, going out for a drink or going from the office to a business meeting. Although the modern women still want to look smart and give a good impression they also want to feel relaxed yet confident. The modern women also follow’s fashion however doesn’t want to put herself out there. This design focuses on fine details and print that is gradual so they don’t necessarily feel like they stand out.

Inspired by Alexander McQueen’s idea of having a detachable element which can dress the garment up or down fitting into modern life styles. This formed a utility look with big bellows pockets being a feature and bringing femininity through with print.

‘Parallel Worlds’ Digital module learning the skills of technical flats, digital illustration and range plans. Here using the theme of decay but juxtaposing it with futuristic fashion I have explored the idea of pattern, texture and shape forming collages of hand rendered and digital designs.

‘Hand v Machine’ Illustration designs looking at innovative accessory design. Inspired by ‘Chanel’ and theexhibition at the ‘Saatchi’ gallery I am looking at the idea of hand rendered techniques like embroidery and print forming layers for an accessory; in this case gloves. The print idea is informed by ‘Mary Benson’ that prints her own illustrations. I have created illustrations to inform prints and laser cutting florals that can be dyed to get the correct colour before free machine stitched and embroidered onto the accessory informing illustrations. Using my own illustrations as a back drop and digital print I then styled a shoot using inspiration from ‘Mary Benson’.

‘Trends’ Trend ‘earthed’ design process, to create a two-piece outfit and trend book. Research and design development exploring colour, rounded silhouette, illustrative print, interesting textures and circular layers inspired by rocks continuing earthed theme. Here exploring elements of my trend book and final two garment outfit; inspired by ‘Claire Barrow’. Interpretating earthed into a textured project exploring surface textures and imperfections along side prints from the natural earth and clean silhouettes that have been affected by rough nature.
