Inspiration

Rekindling the consumer with nature by focusing on textiles tactility and patterns created by nature.

Earthed explores the connection with nature tactically with furry textures contrasting with rigid composition and harsh touch on the skin. Creating layers of contrasting decaying textures of distressed earth form; toughened up with the rough nature of the earth creating sharp crisp edges of destruction and imperfection on the earths surface. Patterns go back to the ones created by nature using natural lines, cracks and forms to inspire hand drawn illustrations of interpretation of the natural world. Emphasis on distress, decay and destruction of surfaces to inspire small line drawings resembling cracks along side small substances of block colour representing acidic volcanic forms and a build up of natural form. Saturated, traditional earth tones from autumn with translucent warm sunset tones bring the bright dashes of decaying earth through the colour pallet adding a bright interpretation of a usual neutral tone. Clean silhouettes are affected by rough nature and toughened up through rugged unfinished edges and rounded interpretation of rock shapes. This trend turns traditional country tailoring to sportswear to create a more urban and futuristic weatherproof approach; creating new rounded boundaries and exaggerations of shape that can expand in an organic, free form or be tailored back in around the human body creating statement pieces.

Colour Direction of saturated earth tones from the traditional colours of autumn; leaves developing different tones of burnt yellow and mustard orange. Combining classic autumn country colours with translucent warm sunset tones of papaya orange and creamsicle orange with vibrant accent pink. Neutralising these strong shades of colour of peach resembling early autumn blossoming tones remaining from summer evenings. While forests add a dose of undertone; pure lime dusty green and indigo blue night sky is presented as a jewel alternative to navy.

Texture Inspiration

The connection with nature tactically with furry textures contrasting with rigid composition and harsh touch on the skin. Creating layers of contrasting decaying textures of distressed earth forms; emphasising on coarse hairy wool texture that expands out in organic ways tangling together creating pits of knotted sponged balls. Toughened up with the rough nature of the earth creating sharp crisp edges of pealing destruction of tough material through cracks and imperfections within the surface.

Texture Direction

Exploring texture through unusual material like airtex; structural, stretchy and allows manipulation into unthinkable formations and shapes. Its composition of holed layered texture which is squishy yet rigid textural holes allow exploration of weaving for new textural surfaces inspired by Sun Choi and Haley Grundmann. Using different ranges of hand crafted wool to create an uneven surface of texture contrasting harsh sponge edges with delicate comforting wool creating different formations, lines, density’s and composure of imperfection and natural balance.

Fabric Direction

Fabric direction from texture inspiration; recognising different conventional textures within material and trim through touch and production. With the dominant exploration of wool and airtex creating above the surface textures of lumps and bumps through the holes of cracked, manipulated airtex fabrics. Contrasting with delicate thinlayers of luxury silk having a strong relationship with natural production turning every day clothing into night wear. Thick Wools and upholstery weaved fabrics to represent the winter approach along side natural knits and unusual foam textures develop traditional country tailoring to sportswear to create a more urban and futuristic weatherproof approach.

Silhouette Inspiration

Clean silhouettes are affected by rough nature and toughened up through rugged unfinished edges of imperfection. Flawed, oversized, rounded shapes are key to this trend giving a strong reference on rock shape and structure allowing development of shaping around the human body and layers below the surface. Inspired by volcanic acidic forms; organic lines inform shaping, panels and edging within garments allowing construction, deconstruction and concealing fitting with this natural earth trend.

Silhouette Direction

Adding modern fashion to a traditional theme is key to creating a rounded interpretation of shape through over sized and baggy style outfits putting emphasis on key areas within each garment. Inspired by Gone Fishing and Xaio Lee creating new rounded boundaries and exaggerations of shape that can expand in an organic, free form or be tailored back in around the human body creating statement pieces.

Print Inspiration

Patterns created by nature using natural lines, cracks and forms to inspire hand drawn illustrations of interpretation of the natural world. Emphasis on distress, decay and destruction of surfaces to inspire small line drawings resembling cracks along side small substances of block colour representing acidic volcanic forms and a build up of natural form. Using a burnt effect to inspire colour burn lines and spurs of mixed tones creating layers of soft and hard of natural formation textures. Inspired by Minju Kim, Claire Barrow and Anita Hirelkar.

Print Direction

Inspired further by Claire Barrow and use of illustrative faces to inform print design interlocking unclear faces of human form into the organic natural lined design. Using human faces to add non-gendered, un-aged, natural body for a personal approach to the formation of lines blending them into faces and composures telling a story through vague faces of placement print. Large bold placements will emphasis on the softer luxurious silk material adding texture and depth through print design adding shape and movement to the plain aspects of silhouette within the design.
