Were not talking Pirates (that was last month) but huge schools of bait and what comes with bait? Toothy, pelagic predators. That’s right, the Kings and Spanish Macs have arrived and in a big way! Stories and pics are pouring in from all across the beaches of drag screaming fish filled days. Check out our Facebook page for recent catch reports or post one of your own. The spring run is upon us so grab a rod, a few buds (either one or both) and go drag some baits! Prepare yourself for the Spring King of the Beach. While were talking about kings that brings me to our April 10th monthly meeting at Gators on the Pass. Speaking this month is Captain Kevin Wissing of “Catch On” charters with a, you guessed it, interactive Kingfish seminar. Come on out and refine your skills and learn some new ones! Then prepare yourself for the invasion on Mad. Beach as thousands of anglers converge for the largest Kingfish Tournament and Party on the West Coast: the 19th Annual Old Salt Spring King of the Beach & Mad. Beach Food Fest, April 26th, 27th & 28th – the tournament for all anglers!! As always we are looking for helping hands and volunteers for this undertaking. If you have a few hours or days (lol) to spare send Jill Foraker a email at info@OldSaltFishing.org we would be glad to have you! With spring upon us and summer quickly approaching the club is in full swing, be sure to check out the rest of the newsletter and hit up the website www.OldSaltFishing.org for all our upcoming events and socials. Just a quick recap from March’s monthly meeting and seawall tournament. Over 130 anglers of all ages fished in the seawall tournament – 92 fish weighed in including a keeper Gag (if you could keep them) and a Hogfish, awesome stuff!! 1st place – Chris Snyder 4.70lb Gag Grouper 2nd place – Barbara Jusich 3.36 Hogfish 3rd place – Barbara Bosser 2.74lb Gag Grouper Most fish – Matthew Clemans – 26 total Smallest Fish – Sky Snyder .12lbs.

Congratulations to our winners and everyone that participated (see the back page for pics). Also, a huge thanks to Captain Scott Moore for an amazing seminar and our friends from Aylesworth fish and bait for supplying the bait for the seawall tournament.
