LETTER OF INTENTION The Course, Computer Graphic Artist, fits my aspirations and goals. It amazes me how a simple drawing gain life and personality, telling a story just by itself, making people relate to a character and even feel like they’re part of this new world. Last year I have learned that everything you do in your life, you can take something useful out of it, I can assure that thanks to the 3 years I studied Pharmacy and the 4 years I’ve worked as a model. In these completely different areas I have learned anatomy, composition and lighting techniques. All these before I have started studying Graphic Design, where I had a drawing class and discovered the love of drawing in myself, which turned into a decision of doing it for a living. Then I took CGMA’s Character Design for Animation, so as started an extra drawing class in a studio. Furthermore, in my current undergraduate course I have learned some advanced Photoshop and Illustrator, and average 3DS Max and AfterEffects. I believe everybody who’s in this area dreams of working for big studios like Disney, Pixar or Cartoon Network, myself included. I want to be able to make people experience different feelings, that’s what I always seek in my work, mostly with the use of the colors and light contrast. My biggest inspiration is the Cartoon Network’s Gravity Falls, which in my opinion, does the best use of color and light I’ve even seen on TV. I also love the painterly effect in the background, composed with the vectorized characters. I absolutely love Wes Anderson’s symmetric compositions and colors on the movies, plus the almost dark comedy. Other of my favorite movies are Drive (2011) and NeverEnding Story (1984), the first is a full class of composition and light contrast, being very immersive; as the second has an amazing and inspiration solving story that has a deep message about imagination. I read as many children’s books as I can, but my most recent picks are a pop-up version of Beauty and the Beast and Luna Clara e Apolo Onze (written by my favorite Brazilian author). Little Big Planet series and DotA 2 are my favorite games, even I’ll always have a place for Ragnarök and Pokémon in my heart.
All nineties Disney animations are part of who I am; The Little Mermaid was the first animation that I ever watched, I still have the tape on a bookshelf in my grandma’s house. I used to live with her when I was a child and she always read to me the Grimm brothers and Andersen’s fairy tales, since then I continued to feed this taste for children’s stories, even though I would never imagine that I could have a chance to work with that, I always thought that people who work with animation draws since they are young kids. I, who started to do sketches during my Pharmacy classes, bored with all that, decided to travel to China working as a fashion model. I, stubborn and curious as The Little Mermaid, understood that the world and life wasn’t just that and still isn’t. There I learned to hold on to the little things, since then I watch over it. Moreover, I was able to earn some money and I realized that I don’t want to depend on my family’s money. Here, I’m working as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator and when I get there, I’ll look for a job or internship and continue my work as a model, in addition I will try to receive a government assistance. That is the reason why I have chosen the Animation Workshop, it is the feet I dream to have, this old new dream. Even more that it is placed in one of most appealing locations to my inspiration and motivation: Denmark. Wish I could be part of that world!
