Manhattan's dense urban environment calls for various forms of landscaping. In order to determine areas where gardening can co-exist with the built environment, roof gardens is one iteration. Serving as the base of the model, land use for buildings and blocks were combined. Isolating land use and the Mahattan borough as a separate layer, built floor area ratios were attained and filtered. Combining land use and built floor area ratio (less or equal to 1) were selected and exported as an individual data frame. The height for each building was converted using feature to point and polygon to raster to attain points and gradation for its values. Creating a chart composed of the percentage of building types with a FAR less or equal to 1, it was evident that Commercial and Office; Mixed-Use and Residential; and Industrial and Manufacturing contained the designated ratio. Heights for buildings with a floor area ratio of 1 or less (which were converted to raster files and used for ArcScene) were placed as the input feature to determine its proximity to subway stations, implying accessibility. Identifying the most dominant building types, height, and proximity, modeling a 3-dimensional model (using files which were converted using Interpolation's IDW, raster, feature to point, and point to raster) further established areas where roof gardens would be provided with adequate exterior exposure.
