Meet the team of Executives committed to Astara’s future and rich heritage: John Gregory Toews: Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Director-Trustee President & CEO, Head Reverend As a full-time healer, Greg has performed over 85,000 healing sessions and instructed thousands of students over the past 25 years. Greg’s first teacher deeply influenced the unfolding of his practice, as well as the years spent as a direct student of Satguru Choa Kok Sui, founder of Pranic Healing and of a Lakota Medicine Man. He has over 95,000 clinical hours of experience in Advanced Medical Aromatherapy, and is the owner of Plant Prana Essential Oils. His therapeutic approach which draws on the various healing and alchemical process that have been practiced through the ages has produced a systematic approach to healing and spiritual development through a complex technique of layering that targets different aspects of the body and psyche. S A L UTAT I O N TO T H E S U N “SURYA NAMASKAR” Astara has advocated for the practice of yoga as a method to integrate physical mental and spiritual practices. Earlyne Chaney practiced Surya Namaskar because it is easy to incorporate (15-20 min) into a daily, busy schedule. Here we outline the basic steps of the Sun Salutation which ideally, should be practiced at sunrise where the sun’s rays are most beneficial for safe absorption and the cosmic ethers are flowing from East to West. The Sixth Degree Lesson outlines the benefits to each of the organ systems and touts the Sun Salutation as the most complete yogic asanas. Here, Instagram Yoga Instructor Carly Ackerman illustrates the asanas:
1. PRAYER POSE (PRANAMASANA): Feet and palms together, closed eyes and relaxed face. Face the sun and exhale. You’re becoming one with the light.
2. BACK BEND POSE: Swing arms upward in standing position bringing your arms overhead. Arch your spine and swing head backwards with palms facing upward.
3. FORWARD FOLD POSE(PADAHASTASANA): Bring feet together and bend forward placing palms of hand on floor with in front or on each side of feet. Breathe deeply.
4. LUNGE POSE (ASHWA SANCHALANASANA): Inhale. Bend Forward. Slide right leg backwards bending the left knee. Fingers or palms on the floor. Spine straight. Breathe deeply.
5. DOWNWARD DOG: Keep fingers or palms firmly in place, raise right knee and stretch the left leg backward alongside the right leg. Lower your head and straighten the spine. Hold the position for as long as you can.
6. PLANK POSE (BHUJANGASAN): Lower your torso to plank. Lower hips until you are lying flat on the floor, shift hands slightly raise your head and entire upper torso, raising your head and chest. Arch your spine and head back as far as comfortable.

7. COBRA POSE (BHUJANGASAN): Lower hips until you are lying flat on the floor, shift hands slightly raise your head and entire upper torso, raising your head and chest. Arch your spine and head back as far as comfortable.
