Brief 12 - Elmwood - Brand the Boring Synopsis: A branding proposal for a fictional skip hire company in response to the brief set by Elmwood.

Evaluation: The Elmwood Brand the Boring brief has taught me rather a lot. At the time I was a bit unsure as to why we were asked to brand such mundane professions and products, but since researching more into the industry and contacting designers, I have seen how the briefs you are set are not always interesting and something that you want to design for, but that that does not mean they cannot still be good design.

The business I was given at random was a skip hire company, which I initially had ideas for, but I was going about in the wrong way. The crit with Stephanie from Elmwood was an eye opening experience and the way in which she told me to rethink the approach to this brief has helped throughout the rest of the module. I have since taken the advice she gave about concepts and applying that across a brand on into my other briefs which I think has had an impact on all of the branding briefs I have completed since completing Elmwood.

I think this brief was successful, but it has also taught me to look further than just the obvious applications of a brand. The products and applications I proposed are all rather obvious and straightforward and I have since realised that it is the subtle applications that can and will complete a brand.

If I were to do this brief all over again I would spend longer generating ideas and concepts before getting stuck within one idea and trying to adapt that into a brand.

However I think the outcome for this brief was something that I have and will continue to learn from.
