Evaluation: A positive aspect of this week long brief was the way in which I not only explored a style of editorial design I had not looked at before, but I actually feel as though the finished printed publication fits the brief I set out for myself. Although it was a fairly quick turn around time, I produced the brand identity and a book within that identity, which could easily be spread onto different issues within a series. One of the difficulties with this brief was keeping to the short time frame I had originally set myself as I found that sourcing the content took a lot longer than I had anticipated and was something which affected the way in which I approached the design of the book. I felt as though had I given myself longer for sourcing the content so that I was not doing it at the same time as trying to put the book together, I could have pushed the layout out of the grid and into something more varied. However, as the purpose of the book is a new take on a travel guide, I did consider the stricter layout to be important within the design of the book. If it had not taken so long to source, edit and write the content of the book, I would have done a second edition to a different location. If I were to do this brief again, I think I would have set myself the task of sourcing the content before beginning designing, rather than trying to do both at the same time as this would not only have sped the design process up, it would have also helped me form a more interesting grid structure in the layout if I had known what the content was before designing.
