ICEBREAKER
After questioning students in the class and thinking back on my own experiences during the induction weeks, I decided one of the areas I possibly wanted to look into was that of how to introduce yourself to your new classmates, and how to make the induction period as enjoyable and stress free as possible, and also to remove the awkward silences. I wanted to find a way to make it easier for students to talk to the people they will be in a class with for three years, and to actually get into a conversation with them. whole class would be a nerve-racking nightmare. Personally, from my I looked into different kinds of games that could be played amongst own experiences, the process of meeting your new classmates should a group of students as a way of each of them introducing themselves start off in much smaller groups. to the other members of the group. whenever. Therefore, I settled on creating a spinner which would randomly pick a person, and sets of question cards, which would be the starting points of different conversations. I researched into different questions that people should ask to get to know someone and created a list of random, funny, serious, and silly questions. The random element of the game puts people on the spot, but without the awkwardness of presenting to a large group of people.

The set of black question cards could be adapted to make the game apply to all students in the course. To change the audience to the students of the fashion course, the questions on the black cards could be changed to ones more relavant to studying fashion design, thus creating a range of board games tailored to different students around the college.

The game would be distributed amongst students on the first day, or during the induction period, of them starting the course and would be used in the studio, cafe or outside seating areas, where students could sit in groups and play the game as a starting point to conversations. It would also replace some of the inductions activities that
The game could possibly be distributed amongst student halls of residence for students to use as an aid to “break the ice� outside of college hours. The circular shape of the board allows for any number of players and therefore does not majorly restrict participation from groups of students.
The range of products I could have created in terms of the brief, would have been things such as questionnaires, card games, board games, or an interactive wall piece which each student would contribute to. In terms of the way I progressed with the brief, a possible range of products could have happened if I had directed
the game at the entire college, and made a different one for each course. The set of black question cards would be able to tailor to each of the courses, for example, I could have made a game aimed at fashion students, or Vis Com students. Within the game that I have produced, the range of products covers the spinner board, the 4 sets of question cards, packaging for each of the sets of cards, printed instructions, and the game box packaging.

Asking personal questions gets right to the purpose of getting to know someone and can be used in smaller groups with elaborate answers or larger groups with quick responses. The research I undertook for the brief was mainly secondary, where I looked at existing board games, and content for the question cards. I researched into different types of board games through images, and also researched the types of questions people should ask when trying to get to know someone new. I found long lists of questions which should supposedly help people to get to know one another, and then from
these lists, I adapted the questions to fit the game and conversations I had had and proved that the concept wrote my own list of graphic design related questions. was a good idea and was an improvement on the tasks set during the induction period. The primary research I undertook was not strictly recorded or formal, but took place in the form of questioming other students around the studio about whether or not they enjoyed the induction process.
