Hey guys! I'm Ben and I'm super excited to say I'm your new bulletin editor for this key club year! I Last year I ran and I didn't win but I didn't give up, so my life lesson for ya'll is don't give up hehe. I hope you guys all enjoyed your DCON as much as I did. In each of my newsletters I want to have a theme, the theme for this newsletter is "Our Journey to Service" as I guess this is the beginning of our journey through this key club year! I hope that we'll be able to share laughs, tears, and more together. My inspiration for everything that I do is love. I try my best to succeed in school because I love my parents and I want them to see my succeed. I try to be involved around the school in leadership and ASB because I love Hazen. I'm finally ready to serve the club that started it all for me, the root of all my love, Key Club. Wow, I never thought I would actually be typing this right now. Well, without further ado let's get this key club year started! :) <3

S S E R D D A 'S T PRESIDEN Hello Key Clubbers! For those who don’t know me, I’m Kristin and I am serving as your 2018-2019 Hazen Key Club president! Can you believe it has already been weeks since we started the new service year? Seeing all of you have a blast at DCON was one of my favorite experiences as an officer, and I hope that after that weekend, you all are able to say that Key Club has impacted you as much as it has impacted me. While all the DCON hype is over and PDD (post-DCON depression for the uncultured) is settling, it's time to get back to the grind and

continue doing what Key Clubbers do best - serving our communities! I know that many of you are busy
with spring sports and are unable to come to the meetings, but be sure that you are staying on top of the volunteer events and announcements through our Facebook page. After all, Key Club is all about service and we don't want you missing out on any opportunities to serve! This year, the board and I are putting great effort into not only finding more service events, but more local and diverse events as well. You can find these on the meeting PowerPoints that I post weekly on Facebook. Apart from service opportunities, the other officers and I have much in store for you guys in the next year! Be on the lookout for many more exciting things to come, but for now, stay toasty!

Why did you join Key Club?
I joined key club was because of Kevin. Entering high school, I was very indecisive on whether I should join the club or not. But as I met Kevin, he inspired and influenced me to join key club through his strong leadership skills that made me think that key club must have a really kind president and that the club has kind members I want to get to know more.
What's your favorite memory from DCON? My best DCON Memory would have to the spirit battles because through those battles, I really felt the love and passion everyone had for key club by uniting as one to represent our division.

For the first couple months, I was not interested in being involved or even attend the meetings. I felt like there was no use in going and did not find my purpose in key club. I always heard about how much of an impact Key Club has made in other people’s lives and wondered when I will have the same “Key Club experience”. I have learned to push my boundaries and to be more involved in my community. I have met so many people whom I would not have met if it wasn’t for key club. I joined key club to become a servant leader. “The servant-leader is servant first… It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first..” - Robert K. Greenleaf. I didn’t realize it at first but Key Club has helped me better myself as a person. And I have grown to love helping others around my community.
What was your favorite memory from DCON? My favorite DCON memory HAS to be closing session and the governor’s ball. This was a time where we could reflect on our accomplishments as the PNW region of Key club. I was able to see our 2017-2018 district board, ltgs, and club board officially retire. Closing session and the governor’s ball were the last two events of DCON 2018 and the most emotional. I am so lucky to have joined Key Club and experience my first DCON with all my friends. It doesn’t hit you until you realize that it’s all— over. I was crying when I didn’t even realize it. The PDD hit everyone hard and we were all there for each other. Key Club has brought me into so many new paths and I’m so blessed to be surrounded by such an amazing group of people.

Hello my fellow key clubbers!
For those of you who will (actually) read this, I promise to keep this short and simple! I can’t believe it’s been a year since I became an officer, and that DCON is behind us and I am no longer your editor. I’ll still be around though since I’m not a senior! It’s been a year full of fun DCMs and bondings, and a year of getting to know you all better! This year has gone by so quickly, and I’ve enjoyed being behind the camera and seeing your dedication to service and Key Club. But as I’m stepping down, I can’t wait to see how well my new innie does as editor. You better read his amazing newsletters! I know he’ll do amazing things for the club and for you all. Kristin Hong IP Secretary Hey Key Clubbers! After a year of getting frustrated with Google Drive, writing Key Club poems, apologizing for forgetting your names, memes, and best of all, saying “turn in your hours,” I am extremely proud to say that our club has completed and turned in a total of 2236.98 service hours during the 2017-2018 service year!! The past term has certainly been a wild ride, and I never thought the day would come when I would become immediate-past secretary. Of course, my term would not have been as nearly as successful if it weren’t for the wonderful people in our club. From crocs to stress relief candles to volunteer forms, the countless memories that I have made in the past year with you all will certainly be taken with me coming into the new term. While I am sad to be ending my term as secretary, the position is in good hands, as I am handing down the responsibilities to my one and only innie Trinity Yang. Please treat her well and turn in your hours! In love and service,
Vy Nguyen IP treasurer Hi Key-uties! It’s been one heck of a year with all of you guys! During dues season I was absolutely amazed to see how we gained over 140 Hazen Key club members, 147 this year to be exact! I got to interact with so many of you guys throughout my term and I just cherish every drop of it. I remember only a few months ago I was bribing you all to pay dues in time with cookies, starbucks gift cards and constantly yelling “PAY YOUR DUES”. Yet, as expected, some still messaged me at 2:05am on the day of the deadline asking if they could pay tomorrow ��At the beginning of last year, I did not expect Key Club to have this much of an impact on my life and I believe, I can speak for most of the freshman members when I say Key Club has given us all an eye opening experience. I saw how members bonded and actually got together and not from the 38+ random ig/sc followers they got from DCM’s or DCON but from service events! Our club has accomplished so much together this year. From raising almost $600.00 in change for Trick-orTreat for UNICEF towards the Eliminate project, to raising $1000 from Ezell’s gift cards to help pay for Dcon fees! Awh, I am so thankful and honored to have served as your 2016-2017 Treasurer but, it’s time for me to step down from my position. If you guys didn’t know, your newly elected treasurer is Ricky Phung!!! Please, pay your dues on time and let him sleep at 2:05am the day of dues deadline! In Love and Service, Vy Nguyen 8
tommy huynh ip vice president My Key Club journey has been a roller coaster ride. There were highs and lows, but the highs definitely outshine the lows. I will take all of these memories and experiences learned with me through the next chapters of my life. Being involved with Key Club is the most important part of my high school experience, it also played a key role in creating my identity. I sincerely wish that the innies help next years incoming freshmen discover their identity and teach them how rewarding community service can be while also building character. Without Key Club, I would not be who I am today. If I could give a word of advice to our non-graduating members, it would be to take every opportunity that is presented to you. You never know what will end up happening. You could be discovering your future career path, or meeting your life companion. MEET YOUR LTG Hey, Hazen Key Clubbers! My name is Justin Englund, and I will be serving as your Lieutenant Governor for the 2018-2019 service year. I’m very excited to work with and get to know all of the officers and members in our division. For those of you who don’t know me, I am a student at Kentwood High School, and soon to be Green River College, I am a Gemini (sorry), and I love memes. I’m looking forward to meeting you at my DCMs, Hazen Club Visits, and DCON 2019
Why did you join Key Club? In eighth grade, my mom took me to my first community service event. It was cold, rainy, and early on a Saturday morning, and I didn’t want to go. While I was helping my mom out though, I met a Key Clubber from Federal Way. She was so nice, generous, and inspiring that I decided that I wanted to join Key Club myself when I moved into the high school. When I actually got to high school, one of the first friends I made told me to join Key Club because her sister was the president. So I both decided and was forced by Sarah to join, and the rest is history.
What's your favorite Key Club memory?
During my freshman year, I was encouraged to participate in the first annual Mr and Ms Dragon competition by my Past Vice President Yuna Park. I think that the moment I stepped out on stage and performed a poem about instant ramen was the moment I realized that I wanted to be more involved with my club. I’d met so many inspiring and caring eople throughout that process, which pushed me to go further.

The meaning of DCON is definitely subjective dependent on your personal experience during convention. Personally, it is undeniable that the short amount of days spent with this wonderful community, connects you and your club family in unexplainable ways. Through sleepiness and exhaustion, everyone's spirit kept me looking forward to the experiences that I'd have to come. Seeing people who I didn't even know laugh, shed tears of joy and reminisce upon the memories of the service year made me incredibly happy and extremely grateful to be apart of this community. Through DCON, I've gotten to meet and get to know so many talented and inspiring individuals who not only strive to make change but ARE apart of the change within society. DCON made me realize what my priorities were, it made me reflect upon my future aspirations and build my character in strife to become a better version of myself. I'm so extraordinarily appreciative to have DCON apart of my freshman year experience! Filled with gratitude for the realization that I truly LOVE Key Club, but even more so the Key-uties that make up Hazen Key Club!!!

TMy first two DCONs, I was an incoming officer and an officer as well as a caucus buddy for both, so you can say I didn't have the typical experience. My last DCON is actually a breath of fresh air. Even though there isn't much that I can talk about (hehe). Being surrounded by the people I love made this DCON my favorite. The 10 minute spirit battles and the raspy voices brings together the love and support we have as Key Clubbers. It brought me closer to friends and myself.
