Information Regarding Applications for Absentee Ballots and Early Mail & Military Ballots
The District Clerk will automatically mail an Absentee Ballot to each voter whose registration record on file with the county board of elections is marked “permanently disabled.” All other voters must submit an application prior to obtaining an absentee ballot or early mail ballot.
Applications for Absentee Ballots and Applications for Early Mail Ballots will be available in the District Clerk’s Office beginning Tuesday, April 22, 2025 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The District Clerk’s Office is located in the Lake Shore High School, 959 Beach Road, Angola, NY. Voters must enter through the main entrance of the High School.
Completed Applications must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days before the election (May 13, 2025) if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election (May 19, 2025), if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.
Absentee Ballots and Early Mail Ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on the day of the election (May 20, 2025).
Military voters who are qualified voters of the school district may apply for a military ballot. Applications for military ballots may be obtained from the District Clerk’s Office (beginning Tuesday, April 22, 2025) and the military voter may designate a preference to receive the application and/or the military ballot by mail, fax or email. Completed applications for military ballots must be received by the District Clerk or her designee by no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 24, 2025.
PLEASE NOTE: All potential candidates have until April 21st to submit their petitions to appear on the May 20th ballot. Therefore, information for absentee ballots is not sent to the printer until April 22nd. If you submit an application for an absentee ballot or early mail ballot, please be aware that ballots are only available after they are received from the printer. Amy L. Taylor, 44, of Hamburg, NY passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at her home. She was born on October 19, 1980 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of Craig and Kathleen (nee English) Taylor. Amy is survived by her loving mother, Kathleen Taylor; dear sister of Byron (Nicole) Taylor, Tonya (Terry) Flickinger and Katie (Richard) Breen; also survived by aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved cat “Charlie”. She was predeceased by her father, Craig Taylor. Amy was a 1999 graduate of Eden High School she continued her education at the University of Buffalo earning a Bachelor’s Degree and a Masters Degree in Criminal Psychology. She was a diehard Buffalo Bills fan and a member of the Bills Mafia. She enjoyed playing softball and rugby. She also loved cats. A Memorial service was held on April 5, 2025 at the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home, 21 Pierce Ave. in Hamburg, NY and the interment was in the SS Peter & Paul Cemetery. David M. “Gandhi” Hilburger of Angola, NY, died unexpectedly, April 9, 2025, he was 53. Beloved son of Theresa (Paul Hanlon) Hilburger and the late Marvin Hilburger. Frances Ann Srio (nee Walsh) of Silver Creek passed away in her home on April 11, 2025. She was 75. Fran was born in Texas to John “Jack” and Margaret Walsh on March 29, 1950. She attended high school at Lake Shore Central School in Angola. Fran was a successful entrepreneur having a cake and accessory business for many years and was an executive for Kayak Pools as well as a Loan Officer and Branch Manager for various financial institutions. She enjoyed Ladies Home Bureau, was a former leader for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and was a Scouting Coordinator with the Allegany Highlands Council. She and Sam enjoyed many camping trips along with vacations to Walt Disney World. Fran was an avid Bills fan and never missed watching a game and cheering for her team. Fran’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, she attended all their sporting events, no matter how far away. Fran is survived by her husband of 57 years, Salvatore “Sam”, her children; James (Sandy) Serio, Wendy Newton and Michael (Jennifer) Serio, grandchildren; Heather (Michael) Serio-Barone, Nathan Serio and Alexis Serio. TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for the 2025-26 fiscal year for school purposes, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any District resident beginning May 6, 2025 through and including May 20, 2025, excluding weekends and holidays, in the main office of each school building between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that all candidates for the office of Member of the Board of Education shall be nominated by petition. Each nominating petition shall be directed to the District Clerk, shall be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the District, and shall state the residence of each signer, and shall state the name and residence of the candidate. Petitions shall be filed in the District Clerk’s Office located at 959 Beach Road, Angola, New York between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday except Holidays. The three candidates who receive the highest number of votes at the Annual Meeting will fill the expired terms of the three incumbents. PROPOSITION NO. 1
Shall the following resolution be adopted:
RESOLVED, that the budget for the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2026, as presented by the Board of Education in the amount of $67,222,545 is hereby approved and adopted and the required funds therefore are hereby appropriated and the necessary real property taxes required shall be raised by a tax on the taxable property in the District to be levied and collected as required by law. Adoption of this budget requires an anticipated 2.9% property tax increase, which does not exceed the statutory tax levy increase limit of 3.62%.
PROPOSITION NO. 2
Shall the following resolution be adopted:
RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District (the “District”) is hereby authorized to purchase the following replacement vehicles for use by the District in the transportation of students and general use by the District: up to three (3) fully electric buses (two (2) 24-passenger 1-wheel chair position school buses and
one (1) 30-passenger school bus). The number of buses purchased shall be based on the amount of grant funding received by the District, and in no case shall the total aggregate local cost exceed $500,000.00; with such aggregate cost to be raised by a tax upon the taxable property of the District to be levied and collected in annual installments as provided in Section 416 of the Education Law, with such tax to be partially offset by State aid available therefore, and, in anticipation of such tax, by the issuance of debt obligations of the District as may be necessary, not to exceed such maximum aggregate cost. No tax levy increase is anticipated for Proposition No. 2.
PROPOSITION NO. 3
Shall the following resolution be adopted:
RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Evans-Brant (Lake Shore) Central School District (the “District”) is hereby authorized to establish a capital reserve fund pursuant to Section 3651 of the Education Law of the State of New York (the “Fund”); that the Fund shall be known as the “Capital Reserve Fund, 2025” of the District; that the Fund shall be established for the purpose of financing, in whole or in part, the acquisition, construction, reconstruction, expansion, renovation, alteration and/ or improvement of buildings, facilities, sites and/or real property owned by the District, including, in all cases, the acquisition of necessary furnishings, equipment, machinery and apparatus; that the ultimate amount of such Fund shall not be greater than $10,000,000 (plus interest earned thereon); that the probable term of such Fund shall not be longer than ten (10) years; and that the permissible sources from which the Board is authorized to appropriate monies to such Fund from time to time shall be (a) unappropriated fund balance of the District; and (b) such other sources as the Board or the voters of the District may direct from time to time, all as may be permitted by law.
