„V budoucnu si každý užije patnáct minut slávy.“ Andy Warhol měl jasno.

Banksy si díky své tvorbě získal věhlas celebrity, sám ale nikdy o slávu neusiloval. Jako řada dalších streetartových umělců radši zůstává ve stínu, a to až tak zatvrzele, že si svou totožnost střeží stůj co stůj. „Nemám zájem se někdy odhalit. Řekl bych, že samolibých pitomců, kteří ostatním vnucují svůj hnusný ksicht, je už takhle ažaž. Když dneska spoustě mladých položíte otázku, čím chtějí být, až vyrostou, řeknou: ‚Chci se proslavit.‘ Zeptáte se: ‚A z jakého důvodu?‘ A oni nevědí, nebo je jim to fuk. Podle mě se Andy Warhol spletl – v budoucnu se proslaví tolik lidí, že si jednou každý užije patnáct minut anonymity,“ poukázal.

Namísto komerčního úspěchu tvoří Banksy už od počátku kariéry svá díla z vášně pro umění a také s cílem šířit svá politická sdělení. „Komerční úspěch je pro sprejera známkou selhání,“ prohlásil kdysi. Od samého prvopočátku vzbuzuje Banksy zájem a obdiv mnoha celebrit, které jeho tvorbu podporují. Snadný úspěch ho ovšem nepřitahuje, natožpak pozlátko. Důsledně se drží svého umění, své inspirace, své filozofie a zajímá ho především svět „neviditelných“, ti jsou odjakživa středobodem jeho tvorby. Když mu došlo, že se volky nevolky stal hvězdou uměleckého světa, okomentoval to slovy: „Proslavit se je jako vydat se na cestu. Nevíte, jaké to je, dokud to neuděláte, a pak už se nelze vrátit a změnit to.“

ŽIVOTOPISNÉ ÚDAJE

JOHN BRANDLER, autor předmluvy a popisků v této knize, je význačným a uznávaným odborníkem na street art. O Banksyho se začal zajímat roku 2003 a od té doby si vybudoval rozsáhlou sbírku děl a načerpal o tomto umělci množství vědomostí. John vystupuje i v televizi – počínaje americkou HBO přes japonskou Nippon TV a konče většinou evropských kanálů –, kde oBanksyho tvorbě diskutuje. V Anglii vede galerie Brandler.

ALESSANDRA MATTANZA , spisovatelka, scenárist ka a umě lecká fotografka, žila mnoho let v New Yorku, San Franciscu a Los Angeles. V současnosti přispívá snímky i texty do řady publikací a časopisů, jako jsou Cosmopolitan a Elle, Vanity Fair, Forbes, F a Natural Style, ICON či Financial Times, a rovněž se podílí na tvorbě rozhovorů a krátkých dokumentárních filmů pro televizní studio Universal a další stanice. Je také autorkou románů, scénářů, ilustrovaných cestopisů a turistických průvodců. Roku 2014 skončila první v Profilu osobnosti, mezinárodní novinářské kategorii každoročních jiho kalifornských novinářských cen v Los Angeles, od té doby získala i několik druhých a třetích míst a rok co rok se na této akci objevuje v nominaci v kategoriích žurnalismu a populárně naučné literatury.
