FIVE YEARS – A SMALL JUBILEE AND A GREAT PLEASURE
Proteklih godina prikazali smo na desetine filmova iz celog sveta, prateći aktuelnu produkciju, tragajući za autorima i njihovim ostvarenjima koja su i nas i vas, našu radoznalu publiku, uvek i iznova iznenađivali, kojima smo se divili, uz koje smo se zabavljali. Želeli smo da ova godina bude u znaku dinamičnih, kreativnih promena, pa tako ANIMANIMA u svom 5. izdanju predstavlja i svoj novi web sajt.
For the past five years we have screned dozens of films from around the world, moving in step with the production trends, searching for authors and their creations, always re-living together with our audience the same feeling of surprise, admiration and pleasure. We wanted this year to be marked by dynamic and creative changes, so that ANIMANIMA can now, in its 5th edition, present its new website.
ANIMANIMA 2011 otpočeće specijalnom projekcijom filma Izgubljena stvar, dobitnika Kristala u Ansiju i nagrade Američke akademije za film, a kruna festivala, po običaju, biće projekcija nagrađenih filmova, i najboljeg među najboljima, ostvarenja kome će pripasti “Zlatni štift”, glavna nagrada ANIMANIME. Četiri festivalska dana biće prilika za susrete sa našim dragim gostima, profesionalcima iz sveta animacije, iz Danske, Holandije, Portugalije, Slovenije... kao i da se uživa u izvanrednim filmovima takmičarskog programa, njih šezdeset iz dvadeset zemalja. Dodajmo i atraktivne posebne i prateće programe i zaokružimo sliku o Domu kulture u Čačku, ponovo u njegovoj tradicionalnoj ulozi - najvećeg bioskopa u Srbiji u kome se prikazuju animirani filmovi! Dođite na ANIMANIMU 2011, neka mali jubilej našeg festivala postane veliko zadovoljstvo za sve nas.
ANIMANIMA 2011 will start with a special screening of the film The Lost Thing, the winner of the Crystal in Annecy and also of the award presented by the American Film Academy. The crown event of the 2011 festival will be, as usual, the presentation of the awarded films, including the winner of the Golden Peg Bar, the main award of the ANIMANIMA Festival. The four festival days will be an opportunity to meet with our dear guests, animation professionals from Denmark, Holland, Portugal, Slovenia... and also to enjoy the outstanding films in the competition programme, which will present sixty works coming from around twenty different countries. Let us not forget the attractive special programmes and fringe events, to complete the picture of the Cultural Centre in Čačak in its traditional role of the largest cinema in Serbia screening animated films! IZGUBLJENA STVAR je kratki animirani film zasnovan na izvrsnoj slikovnici višestruko nagrađivanog ilustratora Šona Tena. Moderna bajka jedinstvene estetike, čija je priča istovremeno i osobena i univerzalna u privlačnosti za sve uzraste. Ovaj film označava rediteljski debi Endrjua Rumana i Šona Tena. Priča: Jedan dečak pronalazi stvorenje neobičnog izgleda na plaži gde je skupljao zatvarače za boce. Shvativši da je izgubljeno, on pokušava da sazna ko je njegov vlasnik ili odakle je. Ali, niko nije zainteresovan, gotovo da i ne primećuju da je biće tu, bez imalo volje da se posvete pojavi koja remeti njihovu svakodnevicu. Ne objašnjavajući zašto, dečak saoseća sa bićem i priprema se da pronađe pravo mesto za njega.
THE LOST THING is animated short film based on the highly acclaimed picture book by multi award winning author and illustrator, Shaun Tan. A modern fable with a unique aesthetic, the story is at once idiosyncratic and universal in its appeal to all ages. The film marks the directorial debut of both Andrew Ruhemann and Shaun Tan. Plot: A boy discoveres a bizzare looking creature while out collecting bottle tops at the beach. Realising it is lost, he tries to find out who owns it or where it belongs, but is met with indifference from everyone else, who barely notice its presence, each unwilling to entertain this uninvited interruption to their day to day lives. For reasons he does not explain, the boy empathises with the creature, and sets out to find a ‘place’ for it.

8 SLOBODAN DANILOVIĆ (1977) se od 1998. godine aktivno bavim kompjuterskom animacijom. U gejming industriji na različitim projektima učestvovao je kao lead animator, asistent režije, art direktor i režiser na kinematografskim trejlerima i sekvencama za izdavače kao sto su Disney, Electronic Arts, Codemasters, Starbreeze, Remedy Entertainment, Coldwood Interactive, IO Interactive... Bio je angažovan je i u Kompaniju na nekim od pionirskih animiranih serija u Srbiji. Kao freelancer godinama je sarađivao sa studijima iz cele Evrope, na reklamama (Fiat, Toyota, Geox), kao i na programima za nacionalne televizije nekih evropskih zemalja poput Holandije, Italije, Švedske. Trenutno je lead animator u Imagination studios, gde je radio na nekim od najznačajnijih naslova iz sveta video igara, kao što su: Battlefield (Bad company, Battlefield 3, Battlefield Heroes), Kane and Lynch 1 i 2, Alan Wake, Bulletstorm, Mirrors Edge, Riddick serijal, World in conflict...
NEBOJŠA PETROVIĆ je rođen 1979. u Sarajevu. Diplomirao je na Fakultetu primenjenih umetnosti u Beogradu, Odsek primenjena grafika, atelje grafika i knjiga. Bavi se animacijom, ilustrovanjem, crtanjem, grafikom, slikanjem murala, grafičkim dizajnom, pedagoškim radom. U periodu 2004-2008. učestvovao u organizaciji Međunarodnog festivala animiranog filma BALKANIMA u Beogradu (u periodu 2006-2008. kao glavni organizator festivala). Kao saradnik Akademskog filmskog centra Doma kulture Studentski grad učestvovao je u organizaciji Festivala Alternative Film/Video (2007, 2008.) i projekta „Videografija regiona”. Član je tima Medijske arheologije, projekta koji se bavi istraživanjem medija u SFRJ: www.medarh.org
SLOBODAN DANILOVIĆ (1977) has been actively involved in computer animation sice 1998, having participated in various projects in the broad field of the gaming industry, as the lead animator, assistant director, art director and director of cinematographic trailers and sequences produced for the leading publishers such as Disney, Electronic Arts, Codemasters, Starbreeze, Remedy Entertainment, Coldwood Interactive, IO Interactive … He was also engaged by the Company, at some of the pioneering animated series in Serbia. As a freelancer, he has been collaborating for years with studios around Europe, in various advertising projects (Fiat, Toyota, Geox), as well as in TV programmes of different national televisions in Holland, Italy, Sweden and some other European countries. He is currently working as a lead animator at the Imagination Studios, where he has been involved in some of the major titles in the world of video games, such as: Battlefield (Bad Company, Battlefield 3, Battlefield Heroes), Kane and Lynch 1 and 2, Alan Wake, Bulletstorm, Mirrors Edge, the Riddick series, World in Confilict...
NEBOJŠA PETROVIĆ was born in 1979 in Sarajevo. Graduated from Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, Applied Graphics Department. Works in fields of animation, illustration, drawing, printmaking, mural painting, graphic design. Also works with children as a teacher of arts. In the period of 2004 – 2008 he worked in organization of the European Animated Film Festival BALKANIMA in Belgrade, since 2006 to 2008 as a head of the organizing team. He collaborated in projects of Academic Film Center in Students’ City Cultural Center in Belgrade, such as Alternative Film/Video Festival (2007 and 2008) and project called Videography of the Region. MILEN ALEMPIJEVIĆ (1965), književnik i publicista, sa desetak objavljenih knjiga različitih žanrova. U periodu 2004-2006 uređivao je i vodio radijsku emisiju o džezu, a poslednjih godina piše tekstove na teme iz oblasti džeza, filma i animacije za dnevne listove i časopise iz kulture. Neki od ovih analitičkih tekstova su realizovani i u formi multimedijalnih predavanja koje je Milen održavao u kulturnim centrima i na festivalima, poput projekta „Džez i animirani film“ (Balkanima, Novi Beograd, 2010) ili najnovijeg, „Savremena basna ili socijalni bestijarijum“, koje će premijerno biti predstavljeno u okviru pratećeg programa ovogodišnjeg izdanja festivala Animanima u Čačku. Milen je urednik filmskog i video programa Doma kulture Čačak, a ujedno i umetnički direktor međunarodnog festival animacije ANIMANIMA.

MILEN ALEMPIJEVIĆ (1965), author and writer of about a dozen books of diferent genres. In the period 2004-2006, he edited and broadcasted a radio programme on jazz music, while over the past few years he has written articles on jazz, film and animation for daily newspapers and culture magazines. Some of these analytical essays were reproduced in the format of multimedia lectures that Milen held in cultural centres and at festivals, such as the “Jazz and Animated Film” (Balkanima, Novi Beograd, 2010), or the most recent “A modern fable or a social bestiary”, which will have its premiere within the fringe programmes of this year’s Animanima Festival in Čačak. Milen is the editor of the film and video programme of the Cultural Centre in Čačak, and also the artistic director of the International Animation Festival ANIMANIMA.

10 RULOF VAN DEN BERG je diplomirao na studijama za film i animaciju na Akademiji Gerit Ritveld u Amsterdamu. Kao nezavisni animator i režiser bavio se izradom laserskih i multi-medijalnih postavki u periodu od 1989. do 2001.godine, uz povremeno angažovanje na poslovima animacije za Holandsku televiziju. Dva od njegovih kratkih animiranih filmova prikazivana su na različitim festivalima: Natpis (2004) i Varijete (2009). Rulof radi kao profesor animacije na Visokoj umetničkoj školi u Utrehtu, Holandija.
ŽOANA TOŠTE rođena je 1970. godine. Diplomirala je u oblasti industrijskog dizajna, da bi zatim završila postdiplomske studije u istoj oblasti, na Umetničkoj školi u Glazgovu / Portugalski Centar za dizajn. Tokom ovog perioda, naporedo je studirala slikarstvo pri Nacionalnoj Asocijaciji za lepe umetnosti u Lisabonu, da bi tokom 1992. godine napravila jednogodišnju pauzu na studijama, kako bi se posvetila studijama animacije u Tobistunu. Od ovog perioda, neprekidno je angažovana u oblasti animacije gde, pored saradnje sa nekolicinom studija, radi i na realizaciji sopstvenih projekata. Tokom 2004. godine, Žoana je osnovala sopstvenu produkcijsku kuću, pod nazivom Gomtch-gomtch. Istovremeno, izrađuje ilustracije, radi kao scenograf u pozorištu, priređuje radionice za decu i bavi se dizajnom internet prezentacija. Do sada je više puta učestvovala u radu različitih festivala kao član žirija.

ROELOF VAN DEN BERGH studied film and animation at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. As a freelance animator and director he made laser shows and multi media shows from 1989 until 2001, besides the occasional animation for Dutch television. Two of his animated shorts featured on various festivals: Notice (2004) and Variété (2009). He teaches animation at the HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht) in The Netherlands.
JOANA TOSTE was born in 1970. She got her degree in industrial design, followed by a post-graduate degree in the same area at the Glasgow School of Art/Centro Português de Design. During this period she stud-
ied painting at Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes de Lisboa and in 1992 interrupted her studies during one year, to perform animation studies at Tobistoon. Since then, she has worked in animation, collaborating with several studios and developing her own projects. In 2004 she created her own production’s company called gomtch-gomtch. Simultaneously, she works in illustration, theatre set design, workshops for children and web design. She had been invited from several festivals for being jury.
IGOR PRASSEL was born in 1971 in the Slovenian coast town Koper-Capodistria. He is currently finishing his Masters degree in Media Studies at the Ljubljana Faculty for Graduate Social Sciences Studies. He was a long time co-editor of the only Slovene comics magazine Stripburger. From 1992 he is running a monthly animation film program at the Slovene Cinematheque. He is trying to survive as a freelance journalist (Delo, Ekran), animation film programmer and board member for many different film and contemporary arts festivals in Slovenia and abroad. He was a jury member at important international animation film festivals (Stuttgart, I Castelli Animati, SICAF, anim’est, Balkanima, Monstra, 25 FPS, Anifest...). From 2008 he collaborates with the World Festival of Animated Films Animafest Zagreb as programme adviser. In 2004 he founded the International Animation Film Festival Animateka, where he is the artistic director.

Bio je član žirija na važnim međunarodnim festivalima animacije (Štutgart, I Castelli Animati, SICAF, Anim’est, Balkanima, Monstra, 25 FPS, Anifest...). Počev od 2008. godine, sarađuje sa Festivalom svetske animancije, Animafestom u Zagrebu, kao programski savetnik. Igor je 2004. godine osnovao Međunarodni festival animacije Animateka čiji je umetniči direktor.

Čarli je jedanaestogodišnjak koji sklonište od digitalne monotonije u svom okruženju traži u izmaštanom svetu i čezne za avanturom na Himalajima.
Kada Njujorčanin prođe pored pileta u svojoj jutarnjoj šetnji, ostaje nam da se pitamo ko je od njih dvoje prava gradska “ptica”... Delimično zasnovan na stvarnom događaju koji Pol Oster pominje u svom romanu Istinite pripovesti iz američkog života, ovaj film nam donosi priču o ranojutarnjem susretu jednog Njujorčanina sa piletom, o događaju koji se odigrava više od 100 godina.

Odbijajući da prihvate pad SSSR-a, šačica ruskih naučnika pod velom tajne radi na uskrsnuću sovjetske moći. Evo nekoliko novih prizora iz misterioznog programa Lazarov.
U maglovitom podzemnom svetu arkadijskog ugođaja obitavaju neobični likovi: Opsenar, Građanski entitet, Drveni lutak i ćutljivi, ali opasni Mačevaoci. Njihovi misteriozni doživljaji alegorija su odnosa između izumrle tradicije evropskog borbenog mačevanja i doktrine pragmatskog političkog delovanja. Da li je završetak alegorije ujedno početak poučnog nesporazuma?

The Arcadian atmosphere of a hazy underworld hosts unusual characters: an Illusionist, a Civil Entity, a Wooden Puppet and a silent, but dangerous Swordsmen. Their mysterious experiences are an allegory of the relationship between the now extinct tradition of European combat swordsmanship and the doctrine of pragmatic political action. Is the end of the allegory also a beginning of an instructive misunderstanding?

Animirana interpretacija poeme Kublaj Kan Samjuela Tejlora Kolridža iz 1797. Njegova “vizija u snu” nastala je pod uticajem opijuma.
A strange creature races against time to make the most important and beautiful creation of his life.
This is an animated interpretation of a poem Kubla Khan written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1797. His “vision in a dream” was composed under the influence of opium.

RONIOCI NA KIŠI DIVERS IN THE RAIN
Godine 1490. Janez iz Kastava oslikao je romaničku baziliku Svetog Trojstva u Hrastovlju. Freske opisuju procesiju “Plesa smrti” upozoravajući nas da su svi jednaki pred smrću. Film je autorova savremena interpretacija slikareve ideje.
Ovo je priča o svakodnevnom roniocu i noćnoj zubarki. Njihovi poljupci su uvek oproštajni poljupci.
Of year 1490 Janez from Kastav painted Romanic basilica of Holy Trinity in Hrastovlje. Frescoes depiction of procession “Dance of death” warning us that all are the same before death. Film is author’s contemporary interpretation of a painter’s idea.
This is a story about an everyday diver and a night dentist. Their kisses are always good-bye kisses.

Devojka i mladić, čiji su životi formirani monotonijom svakodnevnice i strahom od promene, savršeno bi se slagali i nadopunjavali kada bi samo imali prilike da se sretnu. Jednom se ovo zamalo dogodilo...
Sve donedavno nisam ništa znala o svojoj prabaki Fridi osim da je svaku ulicu prešla sa otvorenim kišobranom. Ona je bila svoj sopstveni pešački prelaz. Frida je umrla one godine kada sam ja rođena.
A boy and a girl, whose lives were molded by day-to-day monotony and fear of change, would be a pefect match only if they could meet each other. Once this almost happened...
Up until recently I knew nothing about my great-granny Frida except that she crossed every street with an opened umbrella. She was her own zebra-crossing. Frida died the year I was born.

DETANT LA DÉTENTE
Dečaka ostavljaju na neko vreme u kući starije žene. Kuća se nalazi usred zakorovljenih polja na kojima trunu kruške. Samac koji iznajmljuje sobu doprineće uznemirujućoj atmosferi.
Prvi svetski rat, francuski vojnik u rovu paralizovan je strahom. Njegov duh iz realnosti beži u svet gde se ratovi vode igračkama.
A young boy is dropped off at an elderly woman’s home for the day. Her house sits amongst fields of weeds and rotting pears. A lone man, who rents a room, adds to the unsettling atmosphere.
In a trench during the first world war, a French soldier becomes paralyzed with fear. His mind disconnects from reality and escapes to a world where wars are fought by toys.

Novi animirani film braće Kvej sa muzikom kompozitora Kšištofa Pendereckog. Zasniva se na kratkoj priči Maska Stanislava Lema. Lepotica Duenja je stvorena da bi ostvarila stanovitu misiju. Međutim, biće prinuđena da bira između izvršenja zadatka zbog kog je nastala i ljubavi.
Animiran na lokacijama na plaži, na snegu i pod vodom, ovaj kratki film rađen stop-motion tehnikom prati prekookeanski razgovor dva karaktera uz pomoć predmeta u boci.
The latest animated film of Quay brothers, with the music composed by Krzysztof Penderecki. It is based on short story The Mask by Stanislaw Lem. Beautiful Duenna was created in order to carry out certain mission. However, she will be forced to choose between accomplishing the task she was created for and love.
Animated on location at a beach, in the snow, and underwater, this stopmotion short details the transoceanic conversation between two characters via objects in a bottle.

Pesma Grad švajcarskog elektro-pop sastava Pet godina stariji opisuje proces u kome se jedan putnik upoznaje sa nepoznatim gradom, prilagođavajući se njegovom ritmu, sve dok ga on u potpunosti ne upije u sebe.
Najnoviji deo kampanje Compare the Market nudi još jedan duhovit uvid u istoriju projekta Compare the Meerkat od strane Aleksandra Orlova. On objašnjava kako je njegov otac započeo biznis na ulicama Moskve i polako ga nadgradio do ovog što je danas.

Ponekad, plaža nije samo plaža. A tako je, dok noć pada, i u ovom videu. Sunce odlazi, pesak oživljava i uzima oblike čitavog mini eko-sistema vodenog života. Morska kornjača je rođena, jegulje bi da gone svoj plen, a Majka Zemlja sve to usklađuje.
Pčela sa bajkerskom kacigom na glavi velikom brzinom leti kroz šumu sve dok ne naleti na crnu etiketu Džeka Denijelsa. Kada zaroni u ćilibarnu tečnost, stara etiketa nestaje i pojavljuje se Med iz Tenesija.
Sometimes a beach isn’t just a beach. And, as night falls, that is the case in this video. As the sun goes, the sand comes to life and takes on the forms of an entire mini eco-system of aquatic life. Sea turtles are born, eels emerge to pursue their prey and Mother Earth orchestrates it all.
A bee with the biker’s helmet flies through the forest at high speed until she finds a bottle of Jack Daniel’s black label. As she dives into the amber coloured liquid, blows away the old label, and it is transformed into the new Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey.

Planters, američki vodeći proizvođač “grickalica”, lansirao je novu marketinšku kampanju u kojoj predstavlja mnogovoljenog G. Kikirikija, koji sada i govori, po prvi put posle 94 godine. Alehandro donosi priču o bademu-toreadoru koji pripitomljava bubu-bika.
U nastavku priče koja je započela sa Stajlom, pratimo članove benda i nekoliko njihovih muzičkih saradnika na putovanju po uzburkanom okeanu u potrazi sa Plastičnom Plažom.

50 Portugalska rediteljka i animatorka Žoana Tošte, kojoj je ove godine posvećen specijalni festivalski program Portret animatora, jedno je od najzanimljivijh imena savremene evropske nezavisne scene. Pod sopstvenom produkcijskom etiketom, Gomtch-Gomtch, ova autorka je od 2004. godine do danas uspela da iznedri nekoliko zanimljivih, po mnogo čemu apartnih animiranih ostvarenja. Njen crtež je slobodan, ležeran, gotovo sveden, ali vizuelna ekspresija je u službi animacijskog postupka i nepogrešivo doprinosi efektu njenih rediteljskih zamisli. Šta je to što njene filmove čini toliko osobenim? Najpre, sveprisutni osećaj za humor, ludička energija i spremnost da svoje gledaoce iznenadi, dokazujući Švankmajerovu misao o animaciji kao o sredstvu subverzije. U filmu Biće (Serão), baka posle porodičnog ručka slaže tarot karte i kada ugleda zloslutni znak, uz krik se sruši i ostane nepomična na podu. Započinje niz kobnih događaja: glavu porodice pogodi infarkt, njegova ispala cigareta spali usnulog dedu, majka se u kuhinji smrtno povredi nožem, decu udari struja, starija kćer ispadne kroz prozor. Karikaturalan crtež i nagomilavanje incidenata kojim sažima pripovedačko vreme stalno nas drže na ivici smeha, uprkos katastrofi. Zatamnjenje. Odjednom, baka ustaje, uzima daljinski upravljač i uključuje televizor kao da se ništa nije dogodilo, čime Žoana precizno zaokružuje strukturu gega ove crnohumorne komedije. I u filmu Pileći paprikaš (Guisado de galinha) porodica je na okupu, a nevolje počinju kada se na vratima pojavi komšinica da pozajmi glavicu luka za paprikaš. Dve domaćice će se sporečkati, u svađu će se umešati muževi, pašće teške reči... na kraju jedan pucanj rasteraće ptice iz krošnje. U odjavnoj sceni, muževljeva fotelja je prazna, a žena plače jer... seče luk. Ovakav, predvidljiv dramski zaplet dobija novu dimenziju onog trenutka kada shvatimo da Žoanini likovi ne izgovaraju svoje replike, već ih pevaju, u fado stilu! Na samom kraju ove animirane operete, fadistkinja peva epilog, ali peva i odjavnu špicu pominjući i rediteljku „koja se
Portuguese director and animator, Joana Toste, the author in the focus of this year’s special programme – A Portrait of an Animator, is one of the most interesting names of the contemporary European independent scene. Working under her own production label, Gomtch-Gomtch, since 2004 until now, this author has managed to create several interesting and in many aspects quite exquisite works of animation. Her drawing follows a free form in its leisurely and almost rounded impression – however, her visual expression serves the purpose of the animation process and infallibly contributes to the effect of her director’s vision. What makes her films so peculiar? First of all, her permeating sense of humour, her playful energy and her readiness to take her spectators by surprise, proving in her own way Švankmajer’s vision of animation as a means of subversion. In the film Will Be (Serão), we watch a granny laying down Tarot cards after a family lunch. Having seen an ominous sign, she collapses in a scream, lying motionless on the floor. This sets off a train of fatal events: the heat of the family suffers a heart attack, while the cigarette that he drops will set on fire the drowsing grandpa. In the kitchen, mother will fatally wound herself with a knife, the children will get an electric shock, the elder daughter will fall out of the window. The caricature drawing and piling up the incidents which creates the effect of shortening the narration time, keep us on the verge of laughter, despite the catastrophic developings. A black-out. Suddenly, granny rises, takes the remote control and turns on the TV, as if nothing had happened – a scene with which Joana precisely rounds up the structure of a gag of this black-humour comedy. In the film Chicken Stew (Guisado de galinha) we see another family gathered together, while the trouble begins when a neighbour appears at the door to borrow an onion for the stew. The two housewives will have an argument, the husbands will get involved, and some rude words will be exchanged... in the end, a fired shot will scare away the birds in the tree. In the final scene, the husband’s armchair is empty, and the woman is shedding tears over... the onion she happens to be cutting. This kind of predictable plot takes on a new dimension from the moment we realise

moli svom svecu zaštitniku da se publici dopadne ovaj film makar onoliko koliko joj se sviđa vino.” Nije li ovaj neobični prosede dokaz bazične premise o mehanizmu smeha koja se zasniva na „greškama” posmatračevog uma, to jest na odstupanju od očekivanog, na nesaglasju mišljenog i saznatog? Čak i u filmu Pas, mornari (Cães, marinheiros) egzistira jedna „porodica“: Pas i njegova Žena imaju Mornara. Po motivima kratke priče Erberta Eldera, Žoana oživljava pripovest o mornaru koji je silom prilika „izneverio more“. Bizarna podela ovog filma ima izvesnu komičku snagu iako će mornar, vezan za kolac negde duboko u kontinentu, ispustiti dušu mučenu neprebolnom nostalgijom. Porodica, sloboda, tradicija, život i smrt, večne teme o kojima Žoana u svojim animiranim igrokazima reflektira na način koji će našu egzistencijalnu zebnju, ako ne otkloniti, a ono makar umanjiti do podnošljivosti. A zar to nije čudesna moć animacije? I veština jedne animatorke zbog koje se svaki njen film uvek iščekuje s nestrpljenjem? Uveren sam da je i njen najnoviji film, Quem é este chapéu?, koji će svetsku premijeru imati u Čačku, na ANIMANIMI 2011, još jedno iznenađenje za nas.

that the lines uttered by Joana’s characters are not spoken, but rather sung in the Fado style! At the very end of this animated operetta, the Fado singer sings an epilogue, but also the closing piece, in which she mentions the director who “prays to her patron saint that the audience will like the film at least as much as they like wine”. As for this unusual development – is it not, after all, a proof of the basic premise that the mechanism of laughter relies on the “imperfections” of the spectator’s mind, i.e. on the divergence from the expected, the mismatch between the envisaged and experienced? Even in the film Sailor dogs (Cães, marinheiros) there is a “family” in existence: a Dog and his Wife have a Sailor. Following the motifs of the short story by Herberto Helder, Joana creates a story of a sailor who had happened to “fell from grace with the sea”. The bizarre assignment of roles in this film has a certain comic power, although the sailor, tied to a stake somewhere deep in the mainland, eventually partakes with his nostalgia-tormented soul. Family, freedom, tradition, life and death, are the eternal themes used by Joana to reflect on our existential apprehension in a way that will, if not eliminate, then at least alleviate it to the level of the bearable. Is this not, after all, the miraculous power of animation? And is it not the skill of an animator that makes her every new film an event that is awaited with impatience? I am certain that her latest film, Quem é este chapéu?, which will have its world premiere at ANIMANIMA 2011 in Čačak, will be another surprise for us.

il Luster Productions je najvažnija i najproduktivnija producentska animacijska kuća u Holandiji, specijalizovana i za nezavisnu umetničku animaciju, i za razvoj međunarodnih koprodukcija u oblasti animacije i izradu filmova po narudžbini. U ovom trenutku, il Luster Productions radi na više od 20 projekata (serija, kratkih filmova i dugometražnih filmova) u fazi produkcije i pred-produkcije, koje potpisuju različiti režiseri i koji se ostvaruju u saradnji sa različitim (međunarodnim) studijima. Od svog osnivanja, pre gotovo 15 godina, kuća il Luster je realizovala produkciju preko dvadeset nezavisnih filmskih ostvarenja, niz projekata za razne naručioce, dve televizijske serije i 27 animiranih filmova o poeziji, koje je pratio obrazovni projekat za srednje škole. Mnogi od ovih filmova nagrađeni su (međunarodnim) nagradama i priznanjima. il Luster distribuira svoje filmove na nacionalnom i na međunarodnom nivou, i oni se prikazuju na festivalima, u bioskopima i muzejima

A Visiting School THE ANIMATION WORKSHOP – VIA UNIVERSITY COLLEGE 55 The Animation Workshop is Denmark’s only animation school and it has existed since our creation in 1989. We are located in the town of Viborg which lies in the heart of Denmark with beautiful rural surroundings. The school is made up of our 7 main activities; the Bachelor of Arts degree with two lines of study in Character Animation and CG Art; the Professional Training courses which consists of 15-week introduction programs to Character Animation and CG Art; the Drawing Academy which trains students in classical drawing; the Artists-in-Residence program where students and professionals from around the world work on film, game, and illustration projects; the Center for Animation and Pedagogy that works to implement animation as a pedagogic tool in the European elementary school system and furthermore hosts workshops for children in Denmark and around the globe; the Animation Hub that aims to generate new animation jobs within the medical, science, and news industries; and finally our Talent Hub which houses several of our alumni students who have started their own animation studios.
Studenti pohađaju nastavu koju vode vanredni međunarodni predavači – profesionalci iz studija kao što su Pixar, DreamWorks, Disney, Blue Sky, Nickelodeon, Framestore, Aardman, MPC, MacGuff, i mnogi drugi. Naš je cilj da nastava koju studenti pohađaju ima što je moguće više dodirnih tačaka sa studijima i njihovim radom, kako bi po završetku studija naši diplomci bili spremni da se uključe u rad pravih produkcija. Da bi se ovi ciljevi još bolje i lakše realizovali, studenti često učestvuju u zajedničkim projektima koji se realizuju u saradnji sa drugim školama, a ponekad su uključeni i u projekte sa danskim kompanijama, kako bi stekli dodatna znanja. Pored ovoga, studenti fakultetskih (BA) programa na svojoj trećoj godini studija rade na izradi svojih filmova – diplomskih radova, dok
All students are trained by visiting international professionals from studios such as Pixar, DreamWorks, Disney, Blue Sky, Nickelodeon, Framestore, Aardman, MPC, MacGuff, and many, many others. We aim to keep the training as close to studio life as possible in order for the students to be ready to work on real productions after graduation. To further this, students often participate in collaborative work with other schools and sometimes do projects for Danish companies as part of their training. Also, Bachelor of Arts students spend their third year making graduation films, and their last semester as interns in animation and game companies around the world in which they are often hired upon graduation.

Radionica za animaciju je jedini fakultet za animaciju u Danskoj. Škola aktivno deluje od svog osnivanja 1989. godine, smeštena u srcu Danske, u gradu Viborgu, okruženom predivnom prirodom. Studije su organizovane u 7 glavnih oblasti rada: fakultetske studije (BA) imaju dva smera, Animacija likova i CG umetnost; profesionalni kursevi obuke se sastoje od uvodnih programa u Animaciju likova i CG umetnost, u trajanju od 15 sedmica; Akademija crtanja, gde studenti izučavaju klasični crtež; Program boravka i studija, u okviru koga studenti i profesionalni umetnici iz celog sveta rade na projektima u oblasti filma, igara i ilustracija; Centar za animaciju i pedagogiju, koji radi na implementaciji animacije kao pedagoškog sredstva u evropskom sistemu osnovnih škola, a pored toga organizuje i radionice za decu iz Danske i drugih zemalja; Centar za animaciju, koji radi sa ciljem da stvori nove oblasti primene animacije u medicini, nauci i medijima; konačno, tu je i Centar za talente, koji okuplja nekolicinu naših diplomiranih studenata koji su pokrenuli sopstvene studije animacije.

56 poslednji semestar provode kao pripravnici u različitim kućama širom sveta koje se bave animacijom i kompjuterskim igrama, gde često dobijaju i zaposlenje nakon završetka studija. Radionica za animaciju ima izrazito internacionalno usmerenje. Većina naših vanrednih profesora dolazi iz inostranstva, kao veliki broj naših studenata i osoblja. Uz to, tesno sarađujemo sa međunarodnim školama animacije i kompanijama koje su aktivne u ovoj oblasti, tako da veoma često koristimo i ovu široku mrežu mogućnosti kako bismo realizovali filmske projekte i stvorili nove obrazovne mogućnosti na međunarodnom planu. Kao primer ovakvog načina rada, možemo navesti diplomske studije Animation Production Masterclass koje organizujemo u saradnji sa MOME u Mađarskoj, ili Filmakademie u Nemačkoj, Gobelins u Francuskoj, dok naši studenti na fakultetskom programu (BA) izrađuju svoje filmove – diplomske radove na Nacionalnoj filmskoj školi u Danskoj. Cilj škole THE ANIMATION WORKSHOP je da nastavi sa obučavanjem studenata na trenutnom visokom nivou kompetentnosti, kao i da im pomaže da dobiju angažovanje u okviru studija animacije, kako u Danskoj, tako i u drugim zemljama. Fakultet će isto tako nastojati da i ubuduće funkcioniše kao centar za izučavanje i razvoj danske i evropske animacije, kao i da – radeći na optštem planu – podstiče informativne, obrazovne i razvojne aktivnosti usmerene ka studentima i profesionalcima koji deluju u oblasti animacije. The Animation Workshop is very internationally focused. The majority of our guest teachers are from abroad as are many of our students and staff members. Furthermore, we have close partnerships and collaborations with international animation schools and companies and often make use of this extensive network to realize film projects and create new educational possibilities across borders. For example, we run an Animation Production Masterclass together with MOME in Hungary, the Filmakademie in Germany, and the Gobelins in France, and our bachelor students work on the animation graduation films which are made at the National Film School of Denmark. It is the objective of The Animation Workshop to continue to train students to a high level of competence and see them hired by Danish and international animation studios, to function as a knowledge and development centre for the Danish and European animation industry, and generally to instigate informational, educational, and development activities for animation students and professionals. CONTEMPORARY SLOVENIAN ANIMATED FILM
Sa novim milenijumom, slovenački kratki animirani film sa svojim nevelikim kapacitetima kada je u pitanju produkcija, doživeo je povratak izvornom autorskom pristupu. Nova generacija autora traži međunarodnu afirmaciju. Nadam se da će ovaj izbor, koji sadrži filmove u različitim tehnikama animacije, uspešno dokazati kvalitet novih kratkih animiranih flimova iz Slovenije.
The new millennium brought a revival of original authorial approach to the low production capacity figures for short animated film in Slovenia. The new generation is eager for international visibility. I hope this selection with films made in different animation techniques will proof the quality level of the new Slovenian animated shorts.

Najnovije veliko ostvarenje u istoriji slovenačke animacije predstavlja uspešno okončanje animirane serije Bizgeci (2003-2008) čiji je autor Grega Mastnak. Producent je uspeo da okupi slovenački tim saradnika koji je, uloživši puno truda, uspeo da dovrši 13 nastavaka serije u kojima se pojavljuje mnoštvo dobroćudnih pernatih stvorenja. Za producenta je uspeh serije Bizgeci predstavljao dodatni dokaz da kratki animirani film ima perspektivu, pa je usledilo novo ostvarenje – film Prdeži – miris ljubavi (2006), za koji je animaciju izveo Vladimir Leben, jedan od ključnih animatora serije Bizgeci. Ono što predstavlja poseban kvalitet ovog filma jeste činjenica da se radi o orignalnom slovenačkom 2D crtanom filmu, punom duha i crnog humora. Dušan Kastelic se predstavlja osvarenjem Cikorija i kafa (2008), filmu zasnovanom na pesmi Iztoka Mlakara, u kome pratimo priču o jednostavnom paru sa sela, od njihovog venčanja do smrti. Osnovna nit priče je mala prevara žene, koja čitavog života svom mužu priprema jeftinu zamenu za kafu (cikoriju), umesto prave kafe. Jednostavna priča o tome kako onima koje volimo ne umemo da pokažemo svoju ljubav sve dok ne bude suviše kasno, prikazana na izuzetan način primenom 3d modeliranja i kompjuterske 3d animacije. U saradnji sa Igorom Šinkovecom (animator) i Tomažem Lavričem (strip autor), Kastelic je kreirao još jedno ostvarenje – adaptaciju Lavričevog sripa Ekstremni sportovi.
The last big hit for the history of Slovenian animation film is the successful termination of Grega Mastnak’s animated series The Beezes (2003-2008). The producer succeeded to build up an all Slovenian team which worked hard to finish 13 serials featuring a bunch of friendly feathered creatures. The success of The Beezes gave the producer a proof that is worth to believe in short animation film and Bravefarts – Love is in the Air (2006), animated by Vladimir Leben who was one of the key animators for The Beezes, is one of the original Slovenian 2D cartoon, full with black humor and wit. Dušan Kastelic Chicory ‘n’ Coffee (2008), based on the song by Iztok Mlakar, follows the story of a simple peasant couple from their wedding to their death. The main thread of the story is a tiny deceit – throughout their whole life the wife has prepared a cheap coffee substitute (chicory) instead of real coffee for her husband. A simple story about how we are unable to show our loved ones that we love them until it is too late, is outstanding in the excellent use of 3d modeling and 3d computer animation. With Igor Šinkovec (animator) and Tomaž Lavrič (comic author), Kastelic also created a witty adaptation of Lavrič comic book Ekstremni športi. The freshest breeze has been felt in the field of puppet animation. Špela Čadež successfully presented her student films Mate to Measure (2004) and Lovesick (2007) around the world. Both films were done at
Najveće osveženje donosi nam lutkarska animacija. Špela Čadež se uspešno predstavila širom sveta svojim studentskim filmovima Mate to Measure (2004) i Ljubavni jadi (2007). Oba filma su realizovana na Akademiji za medijske umetnosti u Kelnu, i oba su priče ispunjene poezijom svakodnevnice i izuzetna animatorska dostignuća. Saradnik Špele Čadež, animator Matej Lavrenčič, i Roman Ražman su zajedno kreirali naručeni projekat - kratki erotski animirani film Peti, kratki film u perverzijama (2006), kao deo pozorišne predstave. Prvo iznenađenje za javnost došlo nam je u obliku animiranog filma sa lutkama Dvorište (2006), čiji je režiser Nejc Saje, u produkciji mulitmedijalne asocijacije Strup. Ovaj dvadesetpetominutni animirani film sadrži izuzetnu originalnu naraciju, fantastičnu scenografiju i dizajn lutaka, odličnu sinhronizaciju i kompleksnu animaciju, u kojoj se pojavljuje čak petnaest likova. Ipak, kao da je odabrani trenutak preuranjen i da Slovenija još uvek nije

Matej Lavrenčič, who is collaborating with Špela Čadež as animator and Roman Ražman were commissioned to produce the erotic animated short Patty, Short Film in Perverses (2006) as part of a theatre play. The first public surprise come in the form of the puppet animated film Courtyard (2006), directed by Nejc Saje in the production of the multimedia association Strup. The twenty-five minutes long animated film excels in its original storyline, fantastic scenography and puppet design, superior synchronization and complex animation of as many as fifteen characters. But it seems it was too soon for Slovenia to develop a puppet animated film series. Kolja Saksida’s animated films have been screened at festivals and broadcast on television worldwide. So far his most notable production was an animated series Koyaa that has been broadcasted on the Slovenian national television throughout

Do sada, njegovo najzapaženije ostvarenje ostaje animirana serija pod nazivom Koyaa, koja je priikazivana na slovenačkoj Nacinalnoj televiziji tokom sezone 2005. Kolja je suosnivač i direktor produkcijske kuće ZVVIKS, Instituta za filmsku i audio-vizuelnu produkciju sa sedištem u Ljubljani, gde je upravo završena pilot-epizoda za novu seriju Koyaa – The Extraordinary (2011). Živa Moškrič, Mitja Manček, Urban Breznik, Timon Leder i Anka Kočevar su svoje akademske studije (u Velikoj Britaniji, Češkoj Republici i Sloveniji) završili kratkim animiranim filmovima, tako da se čini da je budućnost animiranog filma u Sloveniji sigurna i blistava. 61 Nikola Majdak, a pioneer and a major figure of Serbian animation, was born in Valjevo in 1927. After finishing a training course for war cameramen at the Film Unit of the National Liberation Army Headquarters, Nikola went on to finish the high school and the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. He worked as a regular professor and Head of Department for the Film and Television Camera of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade and also headed the Animation Department of the “Dunav Film” Film School. Until recently, Nikola Majdak was the President of the Serbian branch of the ASIFA. As a director, director of photography, cameraman, editor or animator, he has made more than 300 documentaries (among which the most significant are the ones made in collaboration with Aleksandar Petrović, Ratomir Ivković and Mića Milošević), feature films, short and animated films. He is the author of the first cartoon films in Belgrade, The Soloist and The Chalk-man (1963).

Pionir srpske animacije i jedan od najznačajnijih stvaralaca u ovoj oblasti, Nikola Majdak, rođen je 1927. godine u Valjevu. Završio je kurs za ratne snimatelje pri Filmskoj sekciji Vrhovnog štaba NOV i POJ, srednju filmsku školu u Beogradu i diplomirao na Filozofskom fakultetu u Beogradu. Bio je redovni profesor i šef katedre za filmsku i TV kameru Fakulteta dramskih umetnosti u Beogradu. Rukovodio je odsekom za animaciju na Filmskoj školi Dunav filma, a i doskorašnji je predsednik srpskog ogranka ASIFA. Kao reditelj, direktor fotografije, kamerman, montažer ili animator snimio je preko 300 dokumentarnih (među kojima su najznačajniji oni koje je radio sa Aleksandrom Petrovićem, Ratomirom Ivkovićem i Mićom Miloševićem), igranih, kratkometražnih i animiranih filmova. Autor je prvih crtanih filmova u Beogradu, Solista i Čovek od krede (1963). Dobitnik je velikog broja domaćih i međunarodnih nagrada, između ostalih i Zlatne plakete Jugoslovenske kinoteke. Osnivač je i umetnički direktor evropskog festivala animiranog filma Balkanima, koji se od 2004. godine održava u organizaciji Akademskog filmskog centra u Domu kulture Studentski grad u Novom Beogradu. IGOR IGOR Scenario Krisa Mekene donosi priču o grbavcu nezavisnog duha kome je dojadilo da bude obični asistent koji stalno ponavlja “da, gospodaru”. On sanja o tome da postane naučnik i kada njegov opaki gazda umre sedmicu pre godišnjeg Sajma Zle Nauke, to je Igorova šansa. Uz pomoć dva eksperimentalna stvorenja, Mozga (mozak u tegli koji u stvari samo malo svetluca) i Skempera (ciničnog zeca-samoubice), Igor se baca na izgradnju najvećeg zlog izuma svih vremena – ogromnog, zastrašujućeg čudovišta. Nažalost, umesto samog zla, nastaje gigantska ali dobroćudna glumica u pokušaju, Eva, koja ne bi ni mrava zgazila.
The script by Chris McKenna tells the story of a hunchbacked independent spirit. Igor is sick of being a lowly lab assistant with a “Yes Master’s” degree and dreams of becoming a scientist. When his nasty master dies a week before the annual Evil Science Fair, Igor gets his chance. With the help of two of his experimental creations, Brain (a brain in a jar who is actually a little light on brains), and Scamper (a cynical bunny brought back from being road kill), Igor embarks on building the most evil invention of all time - a huge, ferocious monster. Unfortunately, instead of turning out evil, the monster turns out to be Eva, a giant aspiring actress who would never hurt anyone.

IDIOTI I ANĐELI IDIOTS AND ANGELS Idioti i anđeli je mračna komedija o čovekovoj borbi za sopstvenu dušu. Ejndžel je sebičan, nasilan, nemoralan čovek koji visi u lokalnom baru kinjeći ostale mušterije. Jednog dana on se na zagonetan način probudi sa parom krila na leđima. Krila ga nagone da čini dobra dela što je protivno njegovoj prirodi. Očajnički pokušava da ih se otarasi, ali nailazi na otpor onih koji njegova krila vide kao kao svoju šansu za slavu i bogatstvo.
Idiots and Angels is a dark comedy about a man’s battle for his soul. Angel is a selfish, abusive, morally bankrupt man who hangs out as his local bar, berating the other patrons. One day, Angel mysteriously wakes up with a pair of wings on his back. The wings make him do good deeds, contrary to his nature. He desperately tries to rid himself of the good wings, but eventually finds himself fighting those who view the wings as their ticket to fame and fortune.

This is the first film adaptation of a book from the famous Norwegian children’s book series by Erlend Loe, about Kurt, a short-tempered but good-natured forklift driver. One day Kurt discovers that society basically does not respect forklift operators very much. His wife is an ambitious architect. His neighbor is a medical doctor. Not even Kurt’s own kids seem to be very happy about their father’s occupation. Even if Kurt is popular among his colleagues and likes to drive a forklift, he quits his job, and starts climbing the social ladder. He wants to become a doctor, he wants to get rich, and he wants to be somebody. In the end, he even wants to become Prime Minister. But he does not have much success in any of his projects, and as time goes by, Kurt turns - vicious. Ovo je prva filmska adaptacija jedne knjige iz serije norveškog pisca za decu Erlenda Loa o prgavom vozaču viljuškara, Kurtu. Jednog dana Kurt shvata da društvo zapravo i ne mari previše za vozače viljuškara. Njegova žena je ambiciozni ahitekta, a njegov komšija lekar. Izgleda da ni Kurtova deca nisu srećna zbog očevog zanimanja. Iako je popularan među svojim kolegama, on daje otkaz, i počinje da se penje na društvenoj lestvici. 78 Nina Bunjevac je slikarka, vajarka i autorka stripa iz Kanade. Rođena Kanađanka, detinjstvo i ranu mladost provela je u Srbiji, u Zemunu i u Nišu, a potom se, pred krizni period 90-ih na jugoslovenski prostorima, vratila u Kanadu. Iako se sa uspehom oprobala u više medija, tvrdi da je strip njena trajna opsesija, jer odražava njenu strast ka pričanju priče, a može i lako da bude pretvorena u animaciju, kojom bi takođe želela da se bavi. Po Nininom mišljenu, strip je i krajnje pristupačan medij, ona čvrsto veruje da umetnost treba da dođe do široke publike, umesto da bude namenjena grupicama privilegovanih individua. Ninini radovi zastupljeni su u brojnim izdanjima i antologijama kao što su Komikaze (Hrvatska), Mineshaft (SAD), InguineMah (Italija), Ženski Strip na Balkanu (Hrvatska), Carte Blanche (Kanada), Giuda (Italija) i drugim. Često se bavi problematikom imigranata i nacionalizmom, kao i univerzalnim temama poput usamljenosti i ljubavne čežnje sagledavanim iz rakursa ženskih likova. Na izložbi u okviru festivala ANIMANIMA 2011 Nina će predstaviti jednu zaista posebnu junakinju, ženu-mačku po imenu Zorka. U intervjuu datom našem poznatom autoru Alekasndru Zografu, autorka kaže: “Veoma se radujem novom liku kojeg sam kreirala za strip na kojem trenutno radim - lik se zove Zorka Petrović i ona je žena-mačka, prema klasičnom noir filmu Cat People, kojeg je 1942. režirao Jacques Tourneur. Film predstavlja Balkance (naročito Srbe) kao seksualno devijantne predatore koji prete da unište miran život normalnih Amerikanaca. U mom stripu, Zorka je usamljena devojka opsednuta idejom da pronađe svog muškarca. Ona radi u industriji prerade mesa, i voli da jede brzu hranu gledajući američke TV programe. Na neki način, ona je danas postala žrtva, a ne neprijatelj, američke medijske mašinerije.” U razgovoru sa kanadskim novinarom Dejvom Hauardom vođenom aprila 2010. godine, Nina je upoređujući stanje severnoameričke i evrop-

Nina Bunjevac is a painter, sculptor and autor of comics from Canada. Born in Canada, she spent her childhood and early adolescence in Serbia – in Zemun and Niš, after which she moved back to Canada, just before the beginning of the 1990s crises in Yugoslavia. Although she has been successful in various media, Nina sees comic art as her permanent obsession, since it reflects her passion for story-telling, and can also be easily transformed into animation – an area she is keen to embark on. In Nina’s opinion, comics are a highly accessible medium, and she is strongly in favour of the opinion that art ought to reach wide audiences, instead of being targeted at groups of privileged individuals. Nina’s works have been included in numerous editions and anthologies, such as Komikaze (Croatia), Mineshaft (USA), InguineMah (Italy), Female Comics in the Balkans (Croatia), Carte Blanche (Canada), Giuda (Italy) and others. Among her favourite topics are the issue of immigration and nationalism, as well as universal themes such as loneliness and love desire, viewed from the perspective of female characters. In the exhibition that will be staged at the ANIMANIMA 2011 Festival, Nina will present a truly special heroine, a cat-woman called Zorka. In an interview given to our famous comic author Aleksandar Zograf, Nina said: “I am truly happy with the new character that I have created for the comic I am currently working on – she is Zorka Petrović, a cat-woman, modelled according to the classical Noir film The Cat People, directed by Jacques Tourneur in 1942. My film is about the people from the Balkans

(especially Serbs) as sexually deviant predators, threatening to destroy the peaceful life of ordinary Americans. In my comic, Zorka is a lonely girl, obsessed with the fixation of finding a man of her life. She works in the meat-processing industry, and loves eating fast food while watching American TV programmes. In a way, she has become a victim of the American media machinery, rather than its opponent.” In her talk with the Canadian journalist Dave Howard in April 2010, comparing the situation in the North-American and European scene, from the generation aspect of their respective authors, Nina emphasised the creative energy of the European, especially the Balkans community of comic artists, with their paradigmatic vitality despite the adverse social and economic circumstances. “Nevidljivi stripovi – alternativni stripovi u Srbiji” predstavlja početni pokušaj da se sakupi i prikaže produkcija autorskog/nezavisnog/alternativnog stripa, koji koristi distributivne kanale i produkcijkse strategije nezvanične kulture – pokušaj koji je sada dobio oblik arhivskog i izložbenog projekta centralne institucije naše kulturne memorije – Narodne biblioteke Srbije. Na ovaj način, putem izložbe instalacija i pratećeg kataloga, moguće je ne samo steći uvid u postojeću zbirku alternativnih stripova nastalih u Srbiji tokom proteklih nekoliko decenija, već je moguće pratiti i početke njihove kontekstualizacije na širokom planu saradnje sa autorima, inicijativama, kolektivima i organizacijama koji ovu scenu održavaju tako vitalnom, nepredvidljivom i prepoznatljivom. Početno ispitivanje obavljeno je na osnovu osnovnog oblika razvijanja i distribucije alternativnih stripova, strip-fanzina. Nastavljajući tradiciju nezavisnih/samizdat aktivnosti kao jednu od prepoznatljivih odlika kulture mladih i alternativne kulture u Jugoslaviji, alternativni stripovi u Srbiji su dostigli zenit tokom devedesetih godina prošlog veka. Zahvaljujući svojoj inovativnosti, intenzitetu i uzajamnom preplitanju sa kretanjima u različitim drugim oblastima alternativne kulture, alternativni stripovi su, kako se pokazalo, postali najprisutniji kulturni proizvod Srbije na međunarodnoj sceni, uprkos različitim društvenim okolnostima koje su u velikoj meri otežavali linije međunarodne komunikacije. I premda se ova saradnja odvijala izvan okvira institucionalne kulture, ona se pokazala kao efikasna u otvaranju novih platformi koje su služile za produkciju i razmenu, uspevši da stvori ne samo jednu novu generaciju autora, već i porast interesovanja, i kod institucija i kod čitalaca. “Invisible comics – Alternative comics in Serbia” is an initial attempt to collect and show the production of auctorial/independent/alternative comics which has been using the distribution channels and production strategies of the unofficial culture, now within an archive and exhibition project of the central institution of cultural memory – National library of Serbia. Therefore, in the form of an installation exhibition and the catalogue we can get an overview of the existing collection of alternative comics in Serbia in past decades, and observe the start of their contextualization through a wide collaboration with the authors, initiatives, collectives and organizations who make this scene so vital, unpredictable and recognizable. The initial research was made relying on the basic form of the development and distribution of alternative comics: the comics fanzine. Continuing the tradition of independent/samizdat activity that has characterized youth and alternative culture in Yugoslavia, alternative comics in Serbia were experienced in full swing in the 1990s. Due to its innovativeness, intensity and intertwining with tendencies in various other fields of alternative culture, the alternative comics turned out to be the cultural production from Serbia which was the most present on the international scene, despite the social circumstances that were greatly aggravating the lines of international communication. This cooperation was taking place outside the bounds of institutional culture, but it has nevertheless proved to be effective in opening new platforms for production and exchange, producing a new generation of authors and generating growing interest by both institutions and audience. authors who have been included in this dynamic development with their creative, educational or organizational activities, enabled us to perceive their work in continuity of an alternative scene tradition and find ways in the new context to develop the discussion about what is an alternative – in both comics and culture. „The Invisible Comics“ collection will also display and preserve digitalized independent/samizdat comics print and fanzine comics production that has not previously been systematically collected and preserved in institutions (including magazines the manner of production and distribution of which makes them equivalent to fanzines, such as Striper, Mutanat, Tit bit and others; self-issued graphic magazines in fanzine form published under labels such as Momci, Phantom works, Morcina, Feathered Friends; comic fanzines by authors and collectives directly stemming from punk fanzine culture, such as Krpelj, Debilana, Titov zabavnik or Zadrugar; products of workshops and collective work such as Kuhinja, Čovek iz bunara and so on; and experimental forms which are the result of the process of osmosis in the new media, which can be found at the Studiostrip platform, e.g. Gorski vijenac, Bolji život, Bizar, Tvrdi strip, Hororretard, Intimna Mašina etc). The levels of visibility of this peculiar production enable us to approximately define it as invisible comics. With its impressive development and emancipation from the existing codes of classical, sequential narrative, and its graphic and drawing standards, it has ensured increasingly

Palibrk i čitav niz drugih autora koji su učestvovali u ovim dinamičnim dešavanjima svojim kreativnim, obrazovnim ili organizacionim aktivnostima, omogućili su nam da pratimo njihov rad u kontinuitetu tradicije laternativne scene, a isto tako i da nađemo načine da u novom kontekstu razvijemo diskusiju u nastojanju da definišemo šta je to alternativa – kako u stripu, tako i u kulturi. Zograf ili Novog doba, festivala nestvrstanog stripa, kojeg su inicirali Turbo comix and Studiostrip u Beogradu), ali i učestvovanje u dinamičnom polju dešavanja moderne umetnosti i književnosti.

Projekcija: STRIPBURGER U POKRETU Screening: STRIPBURGER IN MOTION 83 In the year 1992 the first issue of Stripburger, now legendary underground comic magazine, was published. What compelled the forefathers of Stripburger to start a magazine was the lack of a comic magazine in Slovenia. Because of the small local production, explorative tendencies of the editors and the inescapable bind between local production and global trends, the magazine was publishing comics by foreign as much as local artists – mélange of styles and narratives that remains one of the most appealing features of Stripburger. The editorial visited numerous festivals, book fares and galleries and succeeded in erousing the attention of the international public. In January 2001 the magazine won an award at the International Festival of Comic Art in Angouleme in the category for the best fanzine. Big attention was also given to special editions of the magazine, namely Stripburek, Comics from the Other Europe, anthology of Eastern European comics and the newest book to come out of the Stripburger kitchen - Honey Talks - comics inspired by painted beehive panels. The film Stripburger in Motion is based on eight comics published in Stripburger comics magazine: Love Train (Sascha Hommer, Germany), Messiah (Vladan Nikolić, Serbia), Judas the Catholic Squirrel (Alberto Vazquez, Spain), Fog (Damijan Sovec, Slovenia), 8th Deadly Sin (Kaja Avberšek, Slovenia), Religions (Matej De Cecco, Slovenia), Summer Breeze (Dunja Janković, Croatia), A Man for Malin (Malin Biller, Sweden). Boris Dolenc is the director charged with taking eight of the stories from the pages of Stripburger and compiling them into this thirty minute animated short. The perfect occasion to put the comics in motion is right now, as Stripburger celebrates its coming of age - the 18th anniversary of its existence.

Prvo izdanje Stripburgera, sada legendarnog andergraund strip časopisa, objavljeno je 1992. godine. Ono što je njegove začetnike navelo na ovaj korak bio je upravo nedostatak strip-časopisa u Sloveniji. Zbog male lokalne produkcije, kao i zahvaljujući istraživačkom usmerenju uredništva i neizbežne povezanosti lokalne produkcije sa svetskim trendovima, u izdanjima časopisa bili su podjednako zastupljeni stripovi stranih i domaćih autora. Ovaj svojevrsni omaž stilova i narativnih pristupa ostaće jedan od najprepoznatljivijih kvaliteta Stripburgera. Uredništvo je nastupalo na mnogobrojnim festivalima, sajmovima knjiga i u galerijama, uspevajući da pobudi interesovanje međunarodne čitalačke publike. U januaru 2001. godine, časopis je osvojio nagradu na međunarodnom Festivalu stripa u Angulemu, u kategoriji najboljih fanzina. Specijalna izdanja časopisa su takođe primljena sa dosta pažnje. Reč je o izdanjima Stripburek, Stripovi iz Druge Evrope, antologija Istočnoevropskog stripa, kao i najnovije izdanje izdanje koje je nastalo u kuhinji Stripburgera - Honey Talks (Govor meda), kao strip inspirisan oslikanim saćima iz košnica. Film Stripburger u pokretu zasniva se na osam stripova objavljenih u strip-časopisu Stripburger: Ljubavni voz (Saša Homer, Nemačka), Mesija (Vladan Nikolić, Srbija), Juda, katolička veverica (Alberto Vaskez, Španija), Magla (Damijan Sovec, Slovenija), Osmi smrtni greh (Kaja Avberšek, Slovenija), Religije (Matej De Ćeko, Slovenija), Letnji povetarac (Dunja Janković, Hrvatska), Čovek za Malina (Malin Biler, Švedska). Zadatak da osam priča sa stranica Stripburgera pretoči u animirani film pripao je režiseru Borisu Dolencu, a sadašnji trenutak predstavlja savršenu priliku da se stavljanjem stripa u pokret obeleži punoletstvo časopisa i na prikladan način proslavi 18. rođendan Stripburgera.

U svetlu poimanja formi koegzistencije čoveka i životinje, veoma zanimljivo je stanovište da ljudi nisu pre svega racionalne životinje, nego životinje sa dušom koja je lingvistički strukturisana. Posredovanje jezika u čovekovoj kategorizaciji realnog i imaginarnog sveta ispostavlja se važnim i u poimanju životinjskog sveta. Projektujući sopstvene osobine na životinje, što je oduvek bio uobičajeni potupak u basnama i pričama o životinjama, uspostavljaju se čvrste veze i oslobađaju nove mogućnosti čovekove samospoznaje. Na ukrštanjima didaktike i humora ovakve priče konstruišu novu stvarnost ustrojenu na vlastitim zakonitostima. Moguće slike takvog sveta, samosvojnog i punog iznenađenja, vidljive su i u animiranim filmovima. Postavljeni standardi predstavljanja životinja, prevashodno izraženi antropomorfijom i antropocentričkom estetikom i danas su u širokoj upotrebi, ali u animiranim ostvarenjima savremenih majstora animacije, životinja nije samo „glavni junak“, već simbolička i/ili alegorijska nadgradnja svog humanog predloška. Fokusiranjem na kratke autorske filmove, učinjen je pokušaj da se oni grupišu u nekoliko značenjskih celina, polja povišene pažnje, u kojima se prepoznaju međusobne veze. U prvom delu, analiziraće se „socijalni“ odnosi sa akcentom na relaciji „muškarac-žena“, a primeri su Džon i Karen Metjua Vokera (Velika Britanija, 2007) i Nema mesta za Gerolda Danijela Nokea (Nemačka, 2006). Drugi deo opisuje potragu za trenutkom od koga kućni ljubimac postaje sustanar ili partner, kao u Krokodilu Kaspara Jancisa (Estonija, 2009), Crvenom zecu Egmonta Majera (Nemač-
How much does man truly understand animals? Are the scientific zoology, art and media of any help here? Is the entertainment industry (film, TV, toys production) less exploitative and manipulative only because we have today an awareness of animals as of creatures playing a vital role on this planet, and therefore awareness of their rights as well? In the light of understanding the forms of coexistence of humans and animals, there is the interesting approach based on the assumption that humans are not primarily rational animals, but rather animals with a linguistically structured soul. The mediation of the language in man’s categorisation of the real and imaginary worlds is also important in his understanding of the animals’ world. By projecting his own features onto animals, which has always been a standard approach in fables and animal tales, strong bonds are established and new possibilities of self-cognition are released. At the junctions of didactics and humour, stories like these construct a new reality, built on its own laws. Certain possible images of this world, self-contained and full of surprises, can be seen in animated films. The standards that have been set in the representations of animals, mostly characterised by anthropomorphy and anthropocentric aesthetics, are still widely used today, on both sides of the Atlantic. There is a significant number of European authors, however, whose works feature a wide and diverse non-compliance with this standard. In the animated creations of the contemporary animation masters, animals tend to be less of a “hero of the story” and more a symbolic and/or allegoric extension to their human stem. By focusing on short author films, an attempt has been made to classify them into several groups according to their meaning and highlights of action, where certain links can be recognised. The first part will deal with the analysis of the ‘social’ aspects, with an emphasis on the male

– female relations and examples are John and Karen by Matthew Walker (Great Britain, 2007) and No Place For Gerold by Daniel Nocke (Germany, 2006). The second part will describe the quest for the moment when a pet becomes a flatmate or a partner like in Crocodile by Kaspar Jancis (Estonia, 2009), Red Rabbit by Egmont Mayer (Germany, 2007) and Anniversary by Martinas Dyša (Lithuania, 2006). The complex topic of the third part is the swap of the roles or identities depicted in Dog Days by Geoffroy de Crécy (France, 2007), Sailor, Dogs by Joana Toste (Portugal, 2007) and Hen, His Wife by Igor Kovalyov (Russia, 1989), while the fourth part deals with the extraordinary qualities of an animal-doll as seen in Tyger by Guilherme Marcondes (Brazil, 2006) and Maestro by Geza M. Toth (Hungary, 2005). Finally, the fifth part will present the functions of the mask and the ritual of dance, i.e. the symbolic comprehension of the animal and the example is The Old Lady and the Pigeons by Sylvain Chomet (France, 1996).

Iako je nastao kao deo Međunarodnog festivala animiranog filma Animateka, Obrazovni animirani flimski program “Slon” živi i diše iz jednog jedinog razloga: radi dece. Svake godine, deca i omladina imaju priliku da vide veliki izbor izvanrednih originalnih animiranih filmova, pažljivo kategorisanih prema uzrastu gledalaca. Između dve projekcije filmova na velikom ekranu, organizuju se debate na kojima su mladi posetioci pozvani da izraze svoje mišljenje o filmovima, njihovom sadržaju, kao i o njihovom estetskom i umetničkom značenju. Organizatori vode računa i o odraslima koji dovode decu na projekcije: za njih se pripremaju odabrani pedagoški materijali koji im pomažu u radu sa decom. Između dva festivala, “Slon” nastavlja da živi sopstvenim životom: organizuju se radionice animiranih filmova za decu, učestvujemo na različitim festivalima i prikazujemo svoje programme u Sloveniji i inostranstvu. U saradnji sa najčitanijim dečjim časopisom u Sloveniji, objavljujemo DVD sa najboljim filmovima sa prošlogodišnjeg festivala, učestvujemo svojim savetima u debatama vezanim za filmove, čime podstičemo decu i odrasle da zajedno gledaju i uživaju u animiranim filmovima.

We also take care of the adults who accompany the children: we prepare an assortment of pedagogical materials which help them work with children. The Elephant has a life of its own even between the two festivals: we organize workshops of animated film for children, we participate at various festivals, and present our programme in Slovenia and abroad. In collaboration with the most widely read children's magazine in Slovenia we publish a DVD with the best films from the last year's festival, we add a word of advice for debates to the films, and thus encourage children and adults to watch and enjoy animated films together.
