JEDNA ANIMANIMA – MNOGO RAZLOGA ONE ANIMANIMA – MANY REASONS

Tokom dugih i vrelih letnjih meseci kada je ovaj katalog nastajao, ponovo smo, pregledajući materijal, došli do starog zaključka: da je vreme između dva izdanja ANIMANIME proletelo, i da smo opet pred obiljem novih animiranih filmova iz celog sveta i da gledalačka radoznalost ne jenjava, naprotiv! Šesto izdanje ANIMANIME je epilog višemesečne potrage za iznenađenjima, a pristigla su nam iz skoro 40 zemalja, sa svih kontinenata. Raznovrsnost animacijskih tehnika i poetičkih pristupa su fascinantni, a među filmovima koji plene inventivnošću i duhovitošću njihovih autora su i oni već ovenčani nagradama i priznanjima, ali i najnoviji, kojima tek predstoji oprobavanje na festivalima širom sveta. ANIMANIMA svojoj publici koja uvek s nestrpljenjem iščekuje novo festivalsko izdanje, i ovog puta nudi izbor najzanimljivijih i najuzbudljivijih animiranih ostvarenja iz celog sveta, njih 182, u kojima će moći da uživa tokom četiri festivalska dana. Od ove godine ANIMANIMA pokreće i međunarodni takmičarski program filmova za decu i mlade, od koga se očekuje da postane tradicionalan, time i nezaobilazno mesto upoznavanja sa umetnošću animacije neke nove, buduće verne publike. Gete Institut iz Beograda je odabrao Čačak kao jedno od težišta svojih kulturnih aktivnosti u 2012. godini, zato je i ANIMANIMA 2012 u znaku ovog dragocenog partnerstva. Program „Nemačka u fokusu“ predstaviće produkciju studija Film Bilder iz Štutgarta, lucidne kreacije Andreasa Hikadea, kao i radove nekih budućih majstora animacije, sada studenata na akademiji Baden-Virtemberg. Prava poslastica biće i program, prvi put na srpskom kulturnom prostoru, „Savremena baskijska animacija“, realizovan u saradnji sa ustanovom Kimuak iz San Sebastijana. Festivalski program koji obećava zaslužuje i odgovarajući početak, a za to se pobrinula kanadska kuća STASH TV: u specijalnoj projekciji na otvaranju ANIMANIME 2012 videćete deo njihove ponude, koktel animiranih reklama i muzičkih

Engaged in the process of reviewing the received materials, which overlapped with the creation of this catalogue during the long and hot summer months, we once again reached the same conclusion: the time between the two editions of ANIMANIMA had really flown and once again we were there, facing a multitude of new animated films from all over the world, amazed at the fact that our spectator’s curiosity had not faltered a bit, but had – quite the contrary – grown in intensity! This sixth edition of ANIMANIMA is the epilogue of the many months’ quest for surprises, which have arrived from more than 40 countries and all the continents. The multitude of the animation techniques and the poetic approaches is simply fascinating, while among the films that ooze invention and humour of the authors there are both those that have received awards and recognitions, and the most recent ones, that are yet to be featured in festivals around the world. To its audience, ever so impatient to see the new festival edition, ANIMANIMA will be offering once again a selection of the most interesting and most exciting animated films from the whole world: there will be as many as 182 films for the audience to enjoy over the four festival days. Starting from this year, ANIMANIMA will introduce the international competition programme for children and teenagers. This programme is expected to become a festival’s traditional asset, as a must-see venue for some new loyal future audiences.

The Belgrade Goethe Institute has chosen Čačak as a venue of its intensified cultural activities during 2012, so that ANIMANIMA 2012 will also be marked by this precious partnership. The ‘Germany in Focus’ programme will feature the production of the Film Builder studio from Stuttgart, including the lucid creations of Andreas Hykade, as well as the works of some future animation masters, now students at the Baden-Württemberg Academy. A real treat for the animation lovers is expected in the ‘Contemporary Basque Animation’ programme. This is the first time that this programme will be presented at the Serbian cultural scene and it comes as a result of collaboration with the Kimuak Institute from San Sebastian. A promising festival programme deserves an equally effective start and this has been provided by the STASH TV from Canada. A selection from their offer will be presented in a special screening at the opening of ANIMANIMA 2012: a cocktail of animated commercials and music videos, providing a perfect illustration for the conclusion regarding the unfaltering curiosity, mentioned earlier in the text. Hoping that this introduction has spurred your curiosity, we invite you find out more on the pages that follow, in the preparation for the real thing, in the darkness of the Great Hall of the Cultural Centre. There are no fewer than 182 reasons for you to be there.

Različite sadržaje svojih filmova izražava u formi oslikane poezije, apstraktnih improvizacija i animiranih dokumentaraca u okvirima žanra socijalnog filma.

Gracova se služi specijalnom tehnikom koju je sama osmislila, a naziva je ‘‘slikanje glinom’’. Radeći neposredno pred kamerom, ona nanosi komadiće gline, meša boje i urezuje fine linije, stvarajući naizgled beskonačan tok prikaza. Džoan je svoju tehniku animacije zasnovanu na korišćenju boja razvila kao student arhitekture, da bi kasnije, tokom rada u studiju Vila Vintona, prešla sa boje na glinu. U ovom periodu, bila je uključena u izradu tri filma koji će biti nominovani za nagrade američke Akademije za film: Povratak u Oz (Return to Oz), Rip Van Vinkl (Rip Van Winkle) i Stvaranje (The Creation).

Andreas Hikade rođen je u Leto ljubavi, u Altetingu, centru kulta Device Marije. Od kada je odrastao, bavi se stvaranjem animiranih filmova za odrasle, uključujući i Živeli smo u travi (We Lived In Grass, 1995), Prsten vatre (Ring of Fire, 2000), Kržljavko (The Runt, 2005), Ljubav i krađa (Love & Theft, 2010). Sada, kada je postao otac, Andreas pravi i animirane filmove za decu, uključujući i Tom i kriška hleba sa džemom od jagoda i medom (Tom & the slice of bread with strawberry jam & honey, 2001 – 2011). 9 Born in San Sebastian, Spain. Isabel Herguera holds a Bachelor in Fine Arts by Universidad del Pais Vasco, Spain. Later she studied at the Kunstakademie Duesseldorf, Germany where she graduated with a Meistershúler from Professor Nam June Paik. In 1993 she received a Master of Fine Arts from California Institute of the Arts – Calarts, Los Angeles USA. She worked in several animation Studios in Los Angeles before starting with Satinder Singh their own animation studio - Loko Pictures.

Rođena u Španiji, u San Sebastijanu, Izabel Ergera je diplomirala na Fakultetu lepih umetnosti pri Univerzitetu del Pais Vasco u Španiji. Studije će kasnije nastaviti na Umetničkoj akademiji u Dizeldorfu, u Nemačkoj, gde će dovršiti svoje postdiplomske studije u klasi profesora Nam June Paik-a. Godine 1993, stiče master diplomu na Kalifornijskom institutu za umetnosti u Los Anđelesu. Izabel je radila u nekoliko studija za animaciju, pre nego što je u saradnji sa Satinder Sing osnovala zajednički studio za animaciju, pod nazivom Loko Pictures.

Since 2007 she is the coordinator of the Laboratorio de Imagen en Movimiento – LIM in Arteleku, San Sebastian. From 2002 to 2011 she directed inetrnational festival of animation Animac – Muestra internacional de Cine de Animacion de Lleida, Cataluña.

Od 2007. godine, radi kao koordinator rada LIM-a, Laboratorio de Imagen en Movimiento pri Arteleku, San Sebastijan. Od 2002. do 2011. godine, bila je angažovana kao direktor međunarodnog festivala animacije u Kataloniji, Animac – Muestra internacional de Cine de Animacion de Lleida, Cataluña. Njeni noviji filmovi, La gallina Ciega (2005) i Ámár (2010) dobitnici su većeg broja nagrada na različitim nacionalnim i međunarodnim festivalima.

Mina Cvetinović

10 Mina Cvetinović (1985) bavi se vizuelni efektima, kompjuterskom animacijom i stopmotion animacijom. U zvanju je asistenta na predmetima iz oblasti animacije i vizuelnih efekata na Akademiji umetnosti u Novom Sadu. Upisala doktorske studije 2009. na Fakultetu dramskih umetnosti u Beogradu (doktor u dramskim umetnostima). Dobitinik više nagrada i stipendija u toku školovanja. Sa autorskim animiranim filmom Kafana na festivalu BALKANIMA 2008, Beograd, osvojila nagradu za najbolji studentski film. Sa istim filmom učestvovala na osam svetskih festivala.

Kao deo tima iz oblasti vizuelnih efekata učestvovala u izradi devet dugometražnih igranih filmova (izbor: Kako su me ukrali Nemci (2011), režija Miloš Radivojević; Beli Lavovi (2011), režija Lazar Ristovski; Motel Nana (2010), režija Predrag Velinović; Turneja (2008), režija Goran Marković). Kao slobodan umetnik radi za više studija (lista klijenata izbor: Dolce&Gabbana, Tuborg, X factor, Telenor, Lav, Darkwood Dub, i dr.).

Mina Cvetinovic (b. 1985) is involved in visual effects, computer animation and stop-motion, and is a professor assistant in the field of animation and visual effects at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. She enrolled in doctor studies at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade in 2009 (PhD in dramatic arts). She has received various awards and scholarships during her studies. Her animated film Kafana (Tavern) won her an award for the best student film at international animated film festival BALKANIMA 2008, Belgrade. The same film brought her the participation in eight different world film festivals.

She was a member of a visual effects team making nine feature-length live action films (selection: How I Was Stolen by the Germans (2011),

directed by Milos Radivojevic; White Lions (2011), directed by Lazar Ristovski; Motel Nana (2010), directed by Predrag Velinovic; The Tour (2008), directed by Goran Markovic). Works as a freelance artist for different studios (selected client list: Dolce&Gabbana, Tuborg, X factor, Telenor, Lav, Darkwood Dub).

Krunoslav Jović je rođen 1981. godine u Beogradu. Završio je filmsku školu Dunav filma, gde je učio animaciju. Njegov studentski film Škola letenja je 2005. dobio priznanje na festivalu Zlatni vitez u Rusiji kao najbolji studentski film. Isti film je nagrađem i na festivalu animacija Balkanima u Beogradu, 2005. godine.

Krunoslav je bio član međunarodnog žirija za studentsku konkurenciju na 36. međunarodnom filmskom festivalu Roshd u Teheranu. Na beogradskom festivalu Balkanima njegov drugi studentski film Ugriz dobio je nagradu ASIFA-e za najbolji studentski film realizovan u Srbiji, kao i nagradu sponzora Fuji. Krunoslav se 2007. godine upisuje na studije animacije na Fakultetu primenjenih umetnosti u Beogradu. Godine 2009. animira dva reklamna spota za mađarsku kampanju o toleranciji. Njegov animirani film Skice dobio je nagrdu za najbolju animaciju na 57. beogradskom festivalu dokumentarnog i kratkog filma. Animaciju još dve reklame, ovog puta za festival studentskog filma FSF011, potpisuje 2010. godine. Njegov projekat U potrazi za Mefistofelesom nagrađen je 2011. godine od strane fondacija DEFA. Iste godine, animirao je i reklamu za Beogradsku

Krunoslav Jovic was born in Belgrade in 1981. He finished Dunav film film school, where he had studied animation. In 2005 his student animated film School of flying received a diploma in a festival Golden Knight in Russia for the best student animated film. Film School of flying also received an award in Belgrade animation festival BALKANIMA in 2005.

In 2006 Krunoslav was a member of an international jury for student competition in the 36th international film festival Roshd in Tehran, Iran. In Belgrade festival BALKANIMA in 2006 his second student animated film A bite received award of ASIFA for the best student animated film realized in Serbia , and sponsors award from Fuji. In 2007 he enrolled the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, where he study animation. In 2009 he animated a commercial for a Hungarian Tolerance campaign. Animated film Sketches received a diploma for the best idea in Golden Knight festival in Russia in 2009. In 2010 animated film Sketches won award for the best animation in 57. Belgrade documentary short and animated film festival. In 2010 he animated two commercials for the festival of students film FSF011 in Serbia. His project “In search for Mephistopheles” received an award from DEFA foundation in 2011. The same year he animated advertise for the Belgrade Week of Art and animated official festival video for the International festival of animation ANIMANIMA based in Cacak, Serbia.

Nikolas Palme (1986) je na završnoj godini Filmske Akademije Baden-Virtemberg, gde se specijalizirao u oblasti produkcije TV serija. Znanja je usavršavao 2009. na Holandskoj akademiji za TV i film u Amsterdamu. Učesnik je većeg broja foruma i edukativnih programa u oblasti filmske produkcije. U 2011 je koristio stipendiju organizacije VGF (Collecting Society for German Producers) iz Baden-Virtemberga za učešće u radionici Hollywood Workshop u Los Anđelesu u organizaciji univerziteta UCLA. U 2012 je učestvovao u Berlinale Talent Campus-u , a u isto vreme je i nominovan za nagradu Robert Bosch. Od 2007. učestvuje u produkciji nekoliko animiranih i kratkih igranih filmova, a 2011. godine i u osnivanju produkcijske kompanije za animirane i igrane filmove Neuer OsterreichischerTrickfilm u Beču.

Nicolas Palme (b. 1986) is at the graduation year at the Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in the field of TV series production. He participated student exchange programme at the Netherlands Film & TV Academy in Amsterdam in 2009. Also, Nicolas participated a number of forum and educational programmes in the filed of film production. In 2011 he obtained an internship from VFG (Collecting Society for German Producers) from Baden-Wuerttemburg to participate the UCLA Extension Hollywood Workshop in Los Angeles. In 2012 he attended Berlinale Talent Campus where he was nominated to Robert Bosch Award. Since 2007 he has been produced several animated and live action short films. In 2011 he has been involved in foundation of the animated feature films production company Neuer OsterreichischerTrickfilm in Vienna.

Neverovatni heroj se otiskuje na teško putovanje kopnom, morem i vazduhom, širom svih planetarnih atrakcija koje se pretvaraju u ogroman petrohemijski park... i više od toga.

Monotona svakodnevica kondukterke u tramvaju. Kao i svakog jutra, muškarci ulaze u tramvaj na putu na posao, jedan za drugim, slični, ćutljivi, sivi, apatični. Ipak, baš tog dana, prateći truckanje i vibriranje šina, kao i ritam poništavanja karata u automatu, kondukterka se “napali” i vozilo postaje erotično.

An improbable hero embarks on a crude journey by land, sea and air – throughout all the attractions of a planet turned into a massive petrochemical park... and beyond.

It’s the humdrum daily routine for Tram’s conductress. As every morning, men get on the tram to go to work, one after another, all similar, quiet, grey, apathetic. And yet, on that day, following the jolts and the road’s vibrations, to the rhythm of the tickets inserted in the ticket-stamping machine, the conductress gets turned on and the vehicle gets erotic.

Ovo je priča o dečaku koji nije nalik ostalima, koji sanja o svom mestu u svetu. I dok mesec prolazi kroz svoje faze, Kali se suočava sa svojim unutarnjim demonima, prolazi kroz svoje strahove, i napokon nadomak je svetlosti. Jednog dana, on će nestati... Ili je to samo još jedna faza ciklusa?

Do we have answers on important questions at all?

This is the story about a boy not like the others that dreams about finding his place in the world. As the moon passes trough different phases, also Kali should face his inner demons, pass trough his fears to, at last, come across his passage to light. One day he will disappear… or maybe it’s just another phase of a cycle?

Nekada smo plemenito, duboko i misteriozno postojanje nazivali Velikim. Vremenom smo se pomerili, naše misli i svest su se promenile. Ipak, šta je to zbog čega ga još uvek zovemo Velikim?

The Box and Dox spend their entire lives sitting on the couch in front of the TV. Both are afflicted with a very powerful addiction to television. This addiction plays out in their behaviors and reactions, which are polar opposites of each other.

Once we called the noble, profound and mysterious existence The Great. We have moved with the time, our thought and consciousness have changed. And yet, what makes us still calling it The Great?

Oldrih S. je pisao hroniku od po samo jedne rečenice od 1981. do 2005. godine. Hronika sadrži svakodnevne priče o njemu i životu njegove porodice, životu u selu i okruženju, kao i o međunarodnim istorijskim incidentima. Među više od dve hiljade dnevnih beleški autori su odabrali oko osamdeset, kao sažetak istorije kako ju je video Oldrih S.

Medvedu piromanu nedostaje njegova majka.

Oldrich S. has been writing the chronicle of the one sentence from 1981 to 2005. The chronicle includes everyday stories of his and his family´s life, the life of the village and its surroundings as well as international historical incidents. From more than two thousand daily notes the authors picked about eighty as a concetrated review of history watched by Oldrich S.

POSLEDNJI AUTOBUS THE LAST BUS

Kolos je vrlo visok robot-igračka od drveta koji ne zna koliko je snažan, a još manje šta smeraju konci koji ga pokreću. Yves Gelyen istražuje svoje opsesije iz detinjstva lutkama i svime nalik robotima.

Početak je lovne sezone. Šumske životinje se ukrcavaju u jedan mali autobus i beže u sigurnost. Kada usred noći lovci zaustave autobus, njegovi putnici otkrivaju svoju pravu prirodu u strahu za sopstvene živote.

Colosse happens to be a very tall, wood robot puppet who doesn’t know his own strength, much less what his strings are up to. Yves Geleyn explores his child obsession with puppets and all things robotic.

It’s the start of the hunting season. The animals of the forest board a small bus and flee to safety. When hunters stop the bus in the middle of the night, its passengers reveal their true natures in fear for their lives.

One day, I found a bear. Or he found me. And he stayed.

In a small apartment in Buenos Aires, an old woman eagerly awaits the birth of her grandchild. However, horrific circumstances means she will be forced to wait over 30 years. Using real-life testimonials this animateddocumentary raises issues of memory, repression and loss.

UNA FURTIVA LAGRIMA UNA FURTIVA LAGRIMA

U taverni, posle ručka sa prijateljima, jedan čovek se seća pričica iz detinjstva provedenog u poznatim četvrtima Lisabona. Na zvuk nadrealnog fada (muzika João Lucas, svira António Zambujo), neke scene ga dirnu, donoseći istovremeno i tugu i radost.

Jedna riba peva sopstveni rekvijum na svom poslednjem putovanju, od riblje pijace do tiganja.

Sitting in a tavern, after having lunch with an old friend, a man remembers small stories of a childhood spent in a popular neighborhood of Lisbon. At the sound of a surreal fado, played by António Zambujo and with original music by João Lucas, several scenes of the past seem to move the man, tormenting him with mixed emotions of grief and joy.

The last journey of a fish as it sings its own requiem, from its sale at the fish market all the way into the frying pan.

PERSOL “GODINA SUNCA” PERSOL “A YEAR OF THE SUN”

Ova animacija je najvećim delom realizovana direktnim slikanjem uljanim i akrilnim bojama na oko 50 gramofonskih ploča, a različite brzine gramofona “Viking” su dočarale pokret, podsećajući na staru animacijsku tehniku zootrop.

Gospodin Persol uživa u dokolici dok jedri, igra tenis ili posećuje galerije, ali uvek sa različitim modelom Persolovih naočara za određenu priliku.

This animation was mosty realised by painting directly (oil and acrylics) on the plate of about 50 vinyle recordings, and different speeds of the “Viking” gramophone was used to create the movement resembling the principles of the old Zootrope animation technic.

Mr. Persol enjoys his leisure while sailing yacht, playing tennis or visiting art galleries, but always with the different Persol sunglasses on, to suit each occasion.

Džulija Pot animira ličnu priču Drua, momka iz Los Anđelesa koji obožava svoju tojotu korolu, prateći njegove veze, putovanja, vožnje po džombastom putu odrastanja, u okviru Tojotine kampanje autobiografija “Svaka tojota ima svoju priču”.

Tajno ostrvo, u nedođiji, gde slavni mrtvi imaju svoj žur. Ostrvo lebdi na oblacima, metafori za raj, ali su sve duše poznatih zarobljene u kutijama televizora.

Obesna trka u kojoj su automobili Honda Civic Si junaci. Dva automobila jure kroz urbani futuristički pejzaž, naleti čudnih ali snažnih vozila ih ugrožavaju, ali oni odgovaraju izazovima sa lakoćom.

Secret island, far-far away, where dead celebrities go to have a party. The island is floating on clouds, a metaphor for heaven, but all the celebrity souls are in TV boxes - trapped there.

A wild car race with Honda Civic Si cars as the heroes. The two cars speed through a futuristic urban landscape pitted against an array of outlandish but powerful vehicles and negotiating challenges with ease.

Animirana priča za decu o maloj bubamari koja odluči da odraste. Odvažuje se na avanture tokom kojih sreće čudne bube i shvata da biti odrastao možda i nije toliko zabavno.

It’s hot. The weather frog is alarmed: if what the kids say ist true, terrible things could happen to the climate! What excactly, the poor frog learns the hard way.

A children’s animated story about a little ladybird who decides to grow up. She embarks on adventure filled with a cast of strange bugs and finds out thet perhaps being an adult isn’t fun as she taught it would be.

Ovo je priča o otkriću dvojice francuskih naučnika iz XIX veka nove vrste tapira u kolumbijskim Andima.

Animirani film zasnovan na klasičnoj slikovnici spisateljice Džulije Donaldson i ilustratora Aleksa Šeflera, donosi predivnu pripovest o malom Grafalu koji se oglušuje o očeva upozorenja i iskrada se u sneg u potrazi za Velikim Zlim Mišem.

This is the story about the discovery by two French scientist from the XIX century of a new tapir species in the Colombian Andes.

Animated film based on the classic children’s picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, tells the delightful tale of a little Gruffalo who ignores her father’s warnings and tiptoes out into the snow in search of the Big Bad Mouse.

A story about how two weird animals meet each other.

Angelinho is a cautious Guardian Angel... a bit too cautious. His best efforts only make the thrill-happy cyclist, for whom he is responsible, more and more adventurous. As the boy shifts into ever-higher gears, Angelinho is dragged closer and closer to the edge.

Džoan K. Grac je dobitnica Oskara, rediteljka kratkih animiranih filmova i reklamnih spotova. Različite sadržaje svojih filmova izražava u formi oslikane poezije, apstraktnih improvizacija i animiranih dokumentaraca u okvirima žanra socijalnog filma.

Joan C. Gratz is an Academy Award winning director of animated short films and commercials. Her films range in content through painterly expressions of poetry, improvised abstraction, and animated social documentary.

Tehnika čiji je ona začetnik naziva se “slikanje glinom”. Radeći neposredno pred kamerom, umetnica nanosi komadiće gline, meša boje i urezuje fine linje, stvarajući naizgled beskonačan tok prikaza. U svom najnovijem radu, Izgubljeno i nađeno (Lost and Found), koristi metamoformne slike izvedene u dubokom reljefu, koji po svom izgledu podsećaju na skulpture od drveta i peska koji se pomera.

The technique she pioneered is “Claypainting.” Working directly before the camera, she applies bits of clay, blends colors and etches fine lines to create a seamless flow of images. Her most recent work, Lost and Found, uses high-relief metamorphosing images which have the appearance sculpted wood and shifting sand.

U filmu Mona Liza silazi niz stepenice (Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase), vidimo prikaze ljudskih lica koja nam u neprekinutom nizu transformacija prenose poruke grafičkog stila i emotivnog sadržaja najpoznatijih umetničkih dela 20. veka. Ova animirana istorija umentosti je 1992. godine nagrađena Oskarom. Noviji Džoanin film Kublaj Kan (Kubla Kahn) predstavlja animiranu interpretaciju poeme pesnika Semjuela Tejlora Kolridža, napisane 1797. godine. Pesnikovo “snoviđenje” nastalo je pod dejstvom opijuma. I dok je Gracova svoj animirani film stvarala bez korišćenja opijata, značenje pesme ostaje nejasno. Džoan je svoju tehniku animacije zasnovanu na korišćenju boja razvila kao student arhitekture, da bi kasnije, tokom rada u studiju Vila Vintona, prešla sa boje na glinu. U ovom periodu, bila je uključena u izradu tri filma koji će biti nominovani za nagrade američke Akademije za film: Povratak u Oz (Return to Oz), Rip Van Vinkl (Rip Van Winkle) i Stvaranje (The Creation).

In Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase, images of the human face are transformed to communicate the graphic style and emotional content of major 20th century art works. This animated history of art won the Oscar in 1992. Gratz’s recent short film, Kubla Kahn is an animated interpretation of a poem written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1797. His “vision in a dream” was composed under the influence of opium. While the film was animated by Gratz in a drug-free state, the poem’s meaning still remains obscure. Joan developed her animated painting when an architecture student, then shifted from paint to clay while working with Will Vinton Studios. During that time, her work included design and animation for the Academy Award Nominees Return to Oz, Rip Van Winkle, and The Creation. Since establishing her own studio, Gratzfilm, in 1987, she has received many honors for her personal and commercial work, including a Clio for Coca Cola Heartland, a Bronze Lion at Cannes for Knorr Recipe Sauces, and First Prize at the London International Film Festival for United Airlines Natural.

Gracova puno putuje i bila je član žirija na festivalima animacije u Zagrebu, u Hrvatskoj, 1994. godine, zatim u Hirošimi, u Japanu, 2002. godine, kao i na festivalu Castelli Animati, Italija, 2003. godine, u Seulu, Koreja, 2004. godine, u Hangžou, Kina, 2006 i 2008. godine. Grac je bila angažovana kao predavač na postdiplomskim radionicama animacije u Teheranu, u Iranu, tokom 2009. godine.

Gratz travels extensively and has served on animation juries in Zagreb, Croatia 1994; Hiroshima, Japan 2002; Castelli Animati, Italy 2003; Soul, Korea 2004; Hangzhou, China 2006 and Changzhou, China 2008. Gratz taught graduate animation workshops in Tehran, Iran in 2009. Gratz is represented by LAIKA/house for commercial work. Gratz’s DVD Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase is available through her website and at Microcinema and Pyramid Media.Gratz is the author of Down-Ward Facing Frog: Yoga practices and Etiquette in the Animal Kingdom. Po rečima Tomasa Mejera-Hermana, animacija je izuzetno raznovrstan medij, koji – uprkos tome što ima tako mnogo toga da ponudi, od umetnika izuzetno mnogo zahteva. Upravo iz ovih razloga, organizaciona struktura studija FILM BILDER je u isto vreme fleksibilna i efikasna, kako bi na najbolji mogući način iskoristila sve prednosti animacije. U studiju čvrsto veruju da kreativnost predstavlja pravilno usaglašenu razmeru između uspostavljenih okvira i slobodnog prostora koji se ostavlja stvaraocu.

FILM BILDER studio, based in Stuttgart, Germany was founded in 1989. In 1997 Stuttgarter Zeitung newspaper wrote: “Eight years ago, studio chief Thomas Meyer-Hermann began to write - or should we say draw - a unique success story.” Animation is a remarkably diverse medium with a huge amount to offer, says Thomas Meyer-Hermann, but it also demands a great deal. Which is why FILM BILDER employs a flexible yet effective organizational framework that makes the most of what animation has to offer. Because creativity thrives on the right mix of structure and space. Since 1989, Studio FILM BILDER has been producing animated films using all the techniques available. A special characteristic is its double tracked work. On the one hand, commissioned works like the animated sequences in Run Lola Run were created, on the other hand independent shorts like No room for Gerold by Daniel Nocke and Andreas Hykade’s Love & Theft were produced. These animated shorts were highly honored with more than 130 festival awards worldwide. In order to converge artistic quality towards the market, several big projects have been initiated recently, e.g. the kids series Tom & the Slice of Bread with Strawberry Jam & Honey (52 x 5 min) by Andreas Hykade. Od 1989. godine, Studio FILM BILDER producira animirane filmove u svim postojećim tehnikama. Posebna karakteristika ovog studija su njegove aktivnosti koje istovremeno teku dva smera: dok su na jednoj strani projekti koje se rade po narudžbini, kao animirane deonice u Trči Lola, trči (Run Lola Run), na drugoj strani stoje nezavisne produkcije kratkih animiranih filmova kao što su Nema mesta za Gerolda (No room for Gerold) Danijela Nokea, odnosno Ljubav i krađa (Love & Theft) Andreasa Hikadea. Ovi kratki animirani filmovi dobili su izuzetno mnogo nagrada i priznanja – više od 130 – na festivalima širom sveta. U nastojanju da se ostvari spoj umetničkog kvaliteta i potreba tržišta, u poslednje vreme pokrenuto je nekoliko velikih projekata, kao na primer dečja serija Tom i kriška hleba

Logičko rešenje, koje u teoriji deluje besprekorno, pokazaće se kao nedelotvorno kod sukoba u stvarnom životu. Ovaj film je predstavljao Nemačku na festivalu u Kanu 1998. godine, da bi do danas osvojio ukupno trinaest nagrada. Film tries to solve the classic brain-teaser “How can you get a wolf, a sheep and a cabbage across a river one at a time, without them eating each other.” The rational solution seems fine in theory, but does not work when applied to conflicts in real life. This film was the German entry at the 1998 Cannes film festival, and has garnered a total of thirteen prizes.

Animanima 2012 greets with a pleasure its very special guest from Germany, one of the most distingushed European animators and directors – Andreas Hykade. Hykade was born, like he says – in the Summer of Love – in Altötting, center of the Holy Mary cult. Since he´s been a grown-up, he´s created animated films for grown-ups, including We Lived in Grass (1995), Ring of Fire (2000), The Runt (2005) and Love & Theft (2010). Now he´s a father, he creates animated films for children as well, including Tom & the slice of bread with strawberryjam & honey (2001 – 2011). He also is a professor of animation at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Hykade’s films have been shown within the retrospective screenings both in Germany and many other countries worldwide: Canada, Holland, Brazil, Estonia, Israel, France... Animanima 2012 Retrospective is the very first one in Serbia. Several outstandings films of this extraordinary film-

Animanima 2012 ima zadovoljstvo da ove godine pozdravi zaista specijalnog gosta iz Nemačke, jednog od najpoznatijih evropskih animatora i reditelja – Andreasa Hikadea. Hikade je rođen, kako kaže, u Leto ljubavi, u Altetingu, centru kulta Device Marije. Od kada je odrastao, bavi se stvaranjem animiranih filmova za odrasle, uključujući i Živeli smo u travi (We Lived In Grass, 1995), Prsten vatre (Ring of Fire, 2000), Kržljavko (The Runt, 2005), Ljubav i krađa (Love & Theft, 2010). Sada, kada je postao otac, Andreas pravi i animirane filmove za decu, uključujući i Tom i kriška hleba sa džemom od jagoda i medom (Tom & the slice of bread with strawberry jam & honey, 2001 – 2011). Takođe radi i kao profesor animacije na Akademiji za film u Baden-Virtembergu.


Engleskoj, Izraelu, Francuskoj i drugim zemljama, a retrospektiva na Animanimi 2012 je i prva u Srbiji. Za nekoliko svojih izvanrednih filmova, ovaj vanserijski autor je nagrađivan na velikom broju festivala u svetu kao što su ITFS (Nemčka), HAFF (Hoandija), Ansi, Otava, Fantoš (Švajcarska), Bradfod (V. The set of the film is a place just two streets away from the end of the world. The film is told from the point of view of a little boy.

Odlazeći sve dalje, susreću mnoge opasne i fascinantne likove. Na kraju shvate da su se izgubili. Do trenutka kad uspeju da odu, shvatiće i da su se njihovi životi promenili zauvek. Two young cowboys spend their days in the cool shade of a rock, but at night they make their way to the bazaar of sexual desire. Drifting further and further in, they encounter many dangerous and fascinating characters. Eventually they realize that they are completely lost. By the time they manage to leave, they find that their lives have been changed forever.

In great dispair Campino tries to push his whale back to the sea, while the other Toten Hosen surf on their whales. The title is a pun on the word “Wahlkampf”, which means “election campaign” in German.

Hykade was inspired by Bob Dylan’s album “Love & Theft” which title was apparently inspired by historian Eric Lott’s book Love & Theft: Blackface Minstrelsy and the American Working Class, published in 1993.

Filmska akademija u Baden-Virtembergu je 2002. godine osnovala sopstveni Institut za animaciju, vizuelne efekte i digitalnu postprodukciju. Institut rukovodi programom Animacije i interaktivnih medija. Jedino ovde u celoj Nemačkoj postoji smer Tehničke režije za svršene studente informatike, koji spaja tehničko znanje i umetnički rad. Pored ovoga, Institut vrši postprodukciju svih projekata ostvarenih na Filmskoj akademiji i aktivan je u oblasti istraživanja i razvoja, pri čemu nastupa i kao organizator godišnje FMX Konferencije o animaciji, efektima, igrama i interaktivnim medijima.

In 2002, the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg established its own Institute of Animation, Visual Effects and Digital Postproduction. The Institute is in charge of the Animation and Interactive Media program. Unique in Germany is the Technical Directing course for computer science graduates, which involves combining technical knowledge with artistic work. In addition the Institute handles postproduction of all projects produced at the Filmakademie, is active in the field of research & development and organizes the annual FMX Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Interactive Media.

Begoña Vicario, Basque animator, writes in an article in 2003 for Animac Magazine about the topic of the Basque experimental films, “Only when observed from the outside do the groups of films produced in the Basque country seem to be linked by a tradition. The reality is that those films grew here and there”. Like unpredictable free radicals, the artists, who in the early seventies experimented with painting and cinema like Sistiaga, Ruiz Balerdi or Javier Aguirre, did not share a particular agenda or common artistic philosophy. Yet, undeniably so, their highly reactive work had a common effect for later generations; a thriving desire to make animation and experimental films. At the same time that painters were using film as a means of expression, producers like Luis Goya and Juanma Berasategi lay the first stones for commercial animation to build upon. They never hesitated to support

Pišući za časopis Animac Magazine, u jednom članku objavljenom 2003. godine, baskijski animator Begonja Vikario iznosi sledeće mišljenje o baskijskim eksperimentalnim filmovima: „Različite grupe filmova nastalih u Baskiji izgledaju povezane određenom tradicijom samo kada se posmatraju spolja. U stvarnosti, ovi filmovi su nastali kao rezultat nepovezanih i sporadičnih pokušaja”. Umetnici koji su početkom sedamdesetih godina dvadesetog veka eksperimentisali sa slikarstvom i filmovima, među kojima su svakako i Sistiaga, Ruiz Balerdi i Havijer Aguire, bili su poput nepredvidivih slobodnih radikala, nastupajući bez određenog plana i ne deleći nikakvu posebnu zajedničku umetničku fiolozofiju. Pa ipak, ne može se poreći činjenica da je njihov rad, tako snažan u izazivanju reakcija, izvršio zajednički uticaj na kasnije generacije, nadahnuvši ih nepresušnom inspiracijom da stvaraju animirane i eksperimentalne filmove.


U isto vreme kada su slikari koristili film kao izražajno sredstvo, producenti poput Luisa Goje i Huanme Berasategija postavili su temelje kasnijeg razvoja komercijalne animacije. Nikada nisu oklevali kada je trebalo podržati male animirane projekte, koji su kasnije postajali dugometražni filmovi. Ovi rani preduzetnici dali su svoj doprinos u procesu formiranja profesionalnog tela umetnika i tehničara struke. KIMUAK (izdanak ili mladica, na baskijskom jeziku) predstavlja agenciju koju su 1998. godine osnovali vlada Baskije i ’Ečepare’, baskijski Institut za distribuciju i promociju kratkih baskijskih filmova. Svake godine, Odsek za kulturu vlade Baskije upućuje poziv baskijskim filmskim umetnicima da predstave svoje radove KIMUAK-u; odabrani filmovi se kasnije uređuju u obliku DVD kataloga, čije se kopije šalju na više od 700 festivala širom sveta.

small animation projects that later grew into full feature films. Those early entrepreneurs helped establish a professional body of artists and technicians. KIMUAK, or “sprout/shoot” in the Basque language, is an agency founded in 1998 by the Basque Government and the Etxepare Basque Institute for the distribution and promotion of Basque short films. Every year, the Culture Department of the Basque Government calls for Basque filmmakers to present their works for KIMUAK; later, the selected films are edited into a DVD catalogue and sent to more than 700 festivals worldwide. The selection of short animated films that KIMUAK is presenting at ANIMANIMA 2012 is a sample of the work that has been produced in the Basque Country for the past 10 years. Ovo je priča o dva puta koji se ukrštaju. Izmodeli, stari mađioničar, prinuđen da luta iz zemlje u zemlju, od grada do grada, kroz nebrojene stanice, uvek u potrazi za scenom na kojoj bi prikazao svoju tačku, sreće devojku koja je na početku svog životnog puta. Alisa je tinejdžerka, sa još uvek netaknutom sposobnošću da se divi različitim stvarima. Autor scenarija Iluzioniste je genije francuske komedije, Žak Tati, koji je ovom pričom hteo da ispiše ljubavno pismo oca svojoj ćerki. Silvan Šome, autor mnogohvaljenog filma Belvil Randevu (The Triplets of Belleville) adaptirao je izvorni scenario, udahnuvši mu život svojom prepoznatljivom animacijom, zasnovanom na crtežu slobodnom rukom.

This is a story about two paths that cross. Ludi naučnik angažuje dva Jeržijeva smrtna neprijatelja, skinhedse Zeneka i Stefana, sa zadatkom da se domognu Jeržijevih gena, kako bi pomoću njih napravio ježev klon. U pozadini ovog plana je namera da se izazove nova medijska senzacija, preko koje će se zagospodariti svetom. George the Hedgehog, an inveterate womanizer, big fan of skateboard and couple of pints after hours becomes a key point in the master plan of a genetic manipulations freak. The crazy scientist hires two deadly enemies of George, the skinheads, Zenek and Stefan. Their job is to get hold of George’s genes in order to create the Hedgehog’s clone and evoke a new media sensation whereby they can control the world. George the Hedgehog is based on the hugely popular Polish underground cult comic Jez Jerzy. It is a juvenile, mad and raucous piece of animated satire in a charmingly rough style and spirit all its own. During the NATO bombing campaign in Serbia, Aleksandar Zograf wrote EMail messages that were posted on the internet in many countries, and collected in a book form, in UK ( Bulletins from Serbia, Slab-O-Concerete, 1999), Italy (Lettere dalla Serbia, Punto Zero, 1999) and France ( E-Mails de Pancevo, L’Association, 1999). Aleksandar Zograf was the art director of the annual comics festival called GRRR!, which took place in Pancevo’s Gallery of Contemporary Art, 2002 – 2006. Since 2008, he was directing occasional events titled GRRR!Program, for Pancevo’s Cultural center’s venue Elektrika. GRRR!Program is mostly comics-oriented, but not exclusivelly - it includes discussions, projections, concerts and small exhibitions. The exibition at the ANIMANIMA 2012 entitled “THE WORLD ACCORDING TO ALEKSANDAR ZOGRAF” has two segments. The first one includes Alek-


Tokom NATO bombardovanja Srbije, Aleksandar Zograf je slao je e-mail poruke koje su objavljivane na Internetu u mnogim zemljama, da bi kasnije takođe bile skupljene u knjigu koja je objavljena u Velikoj Britaniji (‘Bulletins from Serbia, Slab-O-Concerete’, 1999), Italiji (‘Lettere dalla Serbia, Punto Zero’, 1999) i Francuskoj (‘E-Mails de Pancevo, L’Association’, 1999). Aleksandar Zograf je bio umetnički direktor godišnjeg festivala stripa koji se pod nazivom ‘GRRR!’, organizovao u Galeriji savremene umetnosti u Pančevu, od 2002. do 2006. godine. Od 2008. nastupa kao direktor periodične manifestacije koja se pod nazivom ‘GRRR!Program’ održava u prostorijama ‘Elektrike’, pri Domu kulture u Pančevu. Izložba radova na festivalu ANIMANIMA 2012, pod naslovom “SVET PO ALEKSANDRU ZOGRAFU” sastoji se iz dva dela. Jedan su table stripova koje je objavljivao u časopisu “Vreme” o čemu kaže sledeće: “Stripove u časopisu „Vreme“ sam počeo da objavljujem 2003. godine. Forsirajući sebe da pravim dve table strane stripa nedeljno, uspeo sam da načinim radova više nego ikada do tada. Štaviše, i dalje sam u stalnoj potrazi za novim materijalom – beleške sa mojih putovanja, moja razmišljanja, stare knjige i zaboravljeni članci iz srpskih novina iz 20-ih i 30-ih godina XX veka, sve su to stalni izvori moje inspiracije.“

sandar’s works published in “Vreme” magazine he tells us about following: “I have started to publish my comics in Vreme magazine in the year 2003. By forcing myself to produce two pages of comics every week, I managed to create much bigger amount of work then ever before. Moreover, I’m in constant search for the new material - notes from my travels, my thoughts, old books and forgotten articles from the newspapers from 1920s and 1930s Serbia, were constant source of inspiration.” The second part of the exibition will present posters made by the author: “I have been creating posters for my own exhibitions, and also for the different events - concerts, art shows all over the world. It made me experimenting with different techniques, also forced me to try to use a slightly different approach. What I like is the immediacy of the poster - it speaks directly from the wall, and you have to bear in mind that most of the people will spend only limited time in observing it.” Aleksandar Zograf also will talk personally about his works within one of the additional ANIMANIMA 2012 programmes.

Drugi deo izložbe su plakati ovog autora: “Kreirao sam plakate za sopstvene izložbe, kao i za različite događaje – koncerte, umetničke predstave, širom sveta. Zbog toga sam eksperimentisao sa različitim tehnikama, a takođe oprobavao i drugačije pristupe tom činu. Ono što mi se kod plakat dopada je njegova neposrednost – on govori direktno sa zida, a morate imati na umu da se većina ljudi ne zadržava previše ispred njega.”

Jež Jerži je prvi poljski dugometražni animirani film za odrasle koji je imao bioskopsku distribuciju širom zemlje. Zasnovan na popularnom strip serijalu, otslikava probleme današnjeg društva na pomalo grub i sarkastičan način. Vojtek Vavčik, jedan od tri reditelja filma, kaže: “Rad na ovom filmu bilo je lud i intenzivan kao i sam film. Bilo nam je potrebno tri godine, ne preveliki budžet, i vrlo mali ali izuzetno talentovan tim najboljih mladih ilustratora i animatora. Film je napravilo svega četrnaest ljudi, više od 1100 snimaka je ručno obojeno a potom i ručno animirano.” Vojtek Vavčik, uživo pred publikom festivala ANIMANIMA 2012, pojašnjava ceo produkcioni proces.

George the Hedgehog (Jeż Jerzy) is the first Polish animated full-lenght feature for adults ever released broadly in cinemas across the country. Based on a popular comic book series, it pictures today’s society issues in a harsh and sarcastic way. Wojtek Wawszczyk, one of the three directors of the film, says: „Working on the film was as crazy and intense as the movie itself. It took almost 3 years, not too big budget, very small yet extremely talented team of the best young illustrators and animators. The movie was created by only 14 people, over 1100 shots were hand-painted and later hand-animated.“ Wojtek Wawszczyk, will explain the production process to ANIMANIMA 2012 audience.

Vojtek Vavčik je režiser, animator, pisac, strip autor, predavač i kompozitor. Nakon što je završio je poljsku Nacionalnu školu filma, diplomirao je i na nemačkoj Filmskoj akademiji u Baden-Virtembergu. Njegovi kratki animirani filmovi Bezglavi (Headless), Miš (Mouse), Leteći pingvin (Flyaway Penguin) i Iver (Splinter) dobili su brojna priznanja i stekli svetsku popularnost. Vojtek je jedan od animatora koji su bili uključeni u stvaranje Diznijevih produkcija Ja, robot (I, Robot) i Eon fluks (Aeon Flux).
