where’s the harm beyond the beach the bigger the better under the sea

It’s the 70’s all over again, but with a more modern and youthful twist. Animal print is on and off¬ the runway. Designer or not, it’s in your shoes, bags, clothes–it’s everywhere. Besides being an “it” factor, the print is an investment piece. Every style from past decades are making a comeback, whether it is neon colors or straight pants. Animal print is one of them and is enduring and everlasting: a must in our wardrobe.

Even if it’s over saturated at the moment, I would see The Row infusing this trend over their collection. The Row already includes some statement items such as handbags and shoes in alligator skin in a very well-crafted and elegant manner. In my opinion, no other designer could be able to blend this trend with such a smooth transition onto their clothing collection. It’s a perfect match! Not only does it go with The Rows aesthetic, but it will elevate the print into a more sophisticated option. The Row could incorporate animal print into their fall items such as their bulky cotes, blazers, and shoes. Of course, a high price point would be expected. Since coats and blazers tend to be $2k, I would increase the printed items to $3k since it requires more craft into it. Since I have no doubt the trend will become a great success, the timeframe for the print in The Row could integrate the print whenever.

It’s all about keeping those summer vibes alive and that includes raffia. This new material was seen all over this past spring-summer season in shoes, bags, belts, hats‌ you name it, enhancing those simple commercial styles. This traditional craft is not to be missed! Contrasting its natural material with either delicate or playful accents for a more feminine approach, raffia is a key product for upcoming summers. Since raffia is mostly composed of natural materials, its color and texture emit an eclectic and contrasting style. This is why I feel that raffia would be a nice complement to Marni. Marni, having a quirky and bohemian aesthetic could implement raffia into their accessories and shoes in order to continue their aesthetic by having their clothes contrast their accessories in an unconventional yet modern way. Their shoes would be priced a bit higher than usual due to the material and its crafting, varying within the $900s. As for accessories, it would depend on if its either a belt or a bag, ranging from $650 to $1.5k. Understanding Marni’s aesthetic, I believe raffia could be included on their collections no matter the season since they would be able to apply it accordingly.

BIGGER the BETTER

Oversized THIS, oversized THAT. Everything we have seen this year is oversized and we can thank athleisure and streetwear for that. But, now, it has shifted from clothing and merged itself into accessories, such as bags. With the direction our market is going and heading towards, oversize is a trend no one seems to be missing out from, even highend designers. Streetwear really has that level of influence. This past fashion week, oversized bags were some of the key items that stood out. Designer such as Jacquemus and Stella McCartney were some of the designers that integrated oversized bags into their lines. But what is it about oversized bags? STATEMENT. It’s all about adding that special item that is going to elevate your boring outfit into a “what a look!” outfit. What’s even better is that an oversized bag goes with everything and everyone, both directional and youth market.

Since oversized tends to be hand in hand with streetwear, I could see this trend with Maison Margiela. Collections from this house seem to be heavily influenced by streetwear but with a more high-end approach. Additionally, the house appears as contradictory in itself making them stand out, which goes hand in hand with the oversized trend. The trend almost seems to belong within their existing bags designs and would not clash with their clothing line. The prices would vary depending on the style of the bag, ranging from $1k to $2k. Considering that the trend goes so well with the line, the oversized bags could be part of their bags collection for several years.

There is no doubt that jewelry has been growing in today’s market. At the moment, every designer is including jewelry as a staple item of their collection. It is an effortless yet eclectic way to complement your outfit. Of course, these bold pieces are for aesthetic purposes only. This laid-back jewelry trend might be staying over the next couple of months. Having puka or seashells in earrings and necklaces as ready items make the beach vibes stay beyond summer season, reminiscing the free-spirited times. With this trend, you could keep or update the bohemian look. Even though Delpozo does not include a jewelry section, this might be a successful addition to a resort collection. Delpozo usually tends to get inspiration from nature for each collection and with the way they carry and transform it into such elegance and delicate presence, they could do the same with a beach-inspired collection incorporating jewelry. The pricing strategy for the jewelry will range from $95 to $100 depending on the craft.
