WE PROMOTE CREATIVITY, WELL BEING, COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND OF COURSE, WE ARE HERE TO CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF OUR MAIN MAN STAN LAUREL IN THIS MOST BEAUTIFUL TOWN OF HIS BIRTH. ANOTHER FINE FEST 2023

Last year was an absolute classic wasn't it? Completely unbelievable

The atmosphere throughout town was absolutely electric. Thousands upon thousands of smiles all over the place and such amazing feedback that genuinely brought tears to our eyes.

Such a special occasion and one we’ll cherish for years to come. So, how on earth do we top that? Is it even possible? Well we promise to give it our very best shot.

HELPING THE PLANET

2022 saw us develop a tree & Fungi Rootgrow fund with Mycelium Thinking CIC.

With cash raised from our wildflower seed packets, we purchased lots of lovely co2 sucking trees & planted them all over Ulverston!

This year we’ll sell fundraising wristbands made from wildflower seed paper - once the fest is over - they can be planted to create vital habitats for butterflies, bees & insects!

A quarter of the funds raised from our street collections will go to Ulverston Food Project to aid the vital work they do redistributing food and reducing co2 emissions.

WASTE = FUEL

No waste will go to landfill. It will be taken to the MBT (mechanical biological treatment) centre close by in Barrow.

Here it will be sorted, all the recyclables separated and the rest made into fuels (Solid Recovered Fuel) or road surfacing.

COMMUNITY PARADE - ANOTHER FINE FUTURE

Alongside Mycelium Thinking CIC, we’re coordinating a fantastical celebration of groups offering hope and help in our community.

Thanks to the National Lottery we’ve been able to offer artistic workshops with young people, MIND, and Ulverston Food Project.

All working together to co-create a memorable experience that inspires us all to imagine ‘Another Fine Future’ - a world better for both people & planet. Check the workshop page to sign-up to pre-fest activities - all welcome!

A visual artist who combines elements of classical painting and graphic design with a graffiti aesthetic.Influenced by the post-industrial landscape of Britain, his work is informed by the stories gleaned from the remnants of a labour intensive history looking towards the future.

Woven together alongside architectural derelicts, typography and imagined colour-fields, objects are often cast centre stage as a vehicle for multiple interpretations.

SECA ONE

Seca One has painted murals spanning the UK including commissions in the North West, Cumbria and London.

Seca has also travelled the world with his art which can be found in places such as L.A, Mexico and Morocco amongst other international locations.

His work has been recognised by household brands such as Rubik's Cube, Amazon and KopparbergIncluding commission based work for

A pivotal figure on the Preston street art scene, Shawn Sharpe is now a Fine Fest regular and rightly so as his work is next level. Just see for yourself!

One half of the duo responsible for the Stan and Ollie mural which currently adorns the Roxy as well as the awesome Wolftown piece which can be seen on the ramp at Lightburn Park Skate ramp!

OTHERMAN

I've been writing graffiti for 30 years on and off. Always tried to honour traditional styles and typography studies, while bringing my own thoughts and techniques.

More recently proud to be involved in bringing larger work to the public space and contributing to a wider understanding of graff artists and their value to our culture.

Personally I’ll be found painting, sketching, making, sculpting and modelling on a much smaller scale these days but always looking back to the old school writers traditions to guide my work.

WINDOW PAINTING

MR. ED FUNK

A lake district based artist.

He accredits his creative imagination not to any art school but to his dyslexic brain and years of daydreaming out of class room windows.

His work can be found adorning the walls in many private homes/businesses in mural form, on commercial surf boards and in many Lake District shops.

He describes his work as ‘Vivid, street, punk, pop art for the hard of hearing!

WE HAVE ASSEMBLED AN EXTENSIVE TEAM OF AWESOME ARTY FOLK WHO WILL PAINT ORIGINAL MURALS AND SPECTACULAR SCENES UPON THE GLASS OF OUR PUBS, SHOP AND CAFES THROUGHOUT TOWN.

THE BUTTERFLY EFFECTED

The aim of The Butterfly Effected is to spread positivity and wellbeing using art as the vehicle.

#TheButterflyEffected is to inspire anyone that is going through a hard time by sharing positive stories from people on the other side of a hard time – This is anything from mental health, trauma, sickness, addiction, abuse, family troubles.

Our aim is to inspire and give hope when ‘normality’ or happiness seems non-existent.

ROSS ANDERSON

Ross started his journey busking on the streets of Glasgow, just short of 10 years ago, then in 2018 he landed a spot on ITV’s ‘The Voice’, impressively making it all the way to the quarter finals.

Since then he's been reaching out to many cities in the UK, featuring in multiple viral videos and building his audience who eagerly await the release of his own original music this year.

FEEL GOOD SINGERS

Community singing group based in Ulverston get together weekly for a social sing and jollies. FGS sing all sorts of songs from original to traditional to contemporary.

Whether it’s a shanty or a more soulful piece, the emphasis is in the simple act of singing together to Feel Good. FGS will debut “Ode to Hoad” a song written with affection for Ulverston’s local surroundings.

Led by Kirsten Taylor. Always open to new members. No auditions. All welcome.

WORKOUT WITH FIONA

A feel good session like no other!

Fiona is a Manchester based fitness instructor who's delivered all kinds of fun sessions for organisations from ITV to Manchester Metropolitan University. She’s passionate about getting people moving and lifting their spirits.

Featuring simple, beginner friendly dance moves to well known classics, from 70s disco to 90s pop and beyond. By the end of her mood boosting movement session, you’ll feel totally lifted.

BLAST FURNESS

A 20 strong and 20+ year old street band of the ancient town of Ulverston in South Cumbria, demonstrating freedom with joyous musical reverberations.

Ska, Salsa, Samba, Calypso, Township & Gypsy combine to create a kaleidoscope of sound that draws together all races, ages and musicians.

Leaping between New Orleans, Brazil and Jamaica, their dancy tunes and wild spirit guarantee every stomp is a party romp.

ANOTHER FINE FUTURE

Come enjoy the fantastical finale of the ‘Another Fine Future’ parade.

A community-powered performance coordinated alongside Mycelium Thinking CIC and Playful Nature. Reveal of a new ‘Wolverston’ folk song, inspiring soundtrack co-created with local Mind members, and a sunny performance with young people in the Sunshine Cabaret. Saturday 2pm on the main Melodrome Stage.

Then stick around for some homegrown madcap action from the Bread N Butter Theatre Company crew and friends.

GABRIELLA & JASMINE T

2 sisters from Carnforth Sisters aged just 11 and 14. The girls have been singing together for 2 years. They appeared on The Voice Kids ITV1 & duetted with Will.i.am.

They have also starred on the BBC on Michael McIntyre's Big Show. They have appeared at venues, events and festivals across the country including high profile gigs such as Lancaster Music Festival& Highest Point.

The girls love performing and sing songs from a variety of different genres from soul, hip hop, rap, reggae and more.

THE THINGAMAJIGS

Meet our high-energy, fast-moving lycra-clad superheroes, featuring circus skills, dance, slapstick and audience participation galore!

A guaranteed crowd pleaser, our heroes bear gifts of yellow Y-fronts from far away galaxies, the audience will find themselves in a cosmic, comic game show with a mind-bending, crowd-pulling finale.

Remember not all superheroes wear capes but we do (well for at least half the performance).

CACOPHANY ARKESTRA

Formed in 2014 from a group of talented musicians and carnival artists.

We perform a high energy mix of Soca & Calypso tunes blended with other musical styles- Ska, Jazz & Afro-beat.

The band plays carnivals, processions, clubs & anything in between either on a truck, on foot or on stage.

All whilst wearing the biggest, brightest, craziest outfits you’ve ever seen.

Over the last 16 years, Lebrosk has been rocking Amsterdam boat parties, UK festivals, & clubs all over Europe.

His music taste spans funk, breaks, house, disco and everything in between!

DEATBEATS

A 10 piece noise machine that fuses the excitement and power of live percussion with interactive visual theatrics.

Deatbeats have performed alongside acts such as Fleetmac Wood, Freestylers, Krafty Kuts, Utah Saints and Ibibio Sound Machine, with regular festival appearances at Beatherder, Kendal Calling and Illuminaughty.

Deatbeats ultimate desire is to "bring the party" to any event they can get their frantically fast beating mitts on!

AIM & NIKO

Aim and Niko are the duo behind fiercely independent ATIC Records. Albums such as ‘Cold Water Music’, ‘Hinterland’, ‘Means of Production’ and ‘Flight 602’ cemented Aim’s reputation as one of UK’s leading underground artists.

Niko is renowned for ‘Life On Earth’ ‘Hate & Love’ and her latest LP ‘Electric Union’ which combines dance, synth laden electronica and neon downtempo with her delicate vocal melodies. Expect exclusive live previews of jaw-dropping remixes and classics from the pair.

Easing you into day 2 of #finefest. With resident selector Daddy 1Love.

This DJ has been running Lancaster's One Love Sound since 1990. Supporting countless top drawer reggae acts at Kendal's Brewery and at Morecambe's WOMAD festivals and was key part of the free party scene in the early 90s.

A vinyl only DJ, expect nuggets from across the spectrum. Steve will also be playing a variety of genres throughout the day as well as hosting the stage!

MOLLIE HARPER

“I'm inspired by a mixture of different music, I love to sing and perform, I sing all the hits from Bob Dylan to Amy Winehouse guaranteed to get people singing along.

I also have a couple of my own songs up my sleeve that are inspired by 60s folk.”

BUSH RUSH

Inspired by the wonderful ladies of Shambush! The Bush Rush was established in Lancaster by Lucy Reynolds and Bev Whelan in March 2015.

The Bush Rush is a Kate Bush flashmob/audience participation event, in which we teach and perform the dance to Wuthering Heights.

Since the Bush Rush was established, Lucy and Bev have performed it at events and festivals in N/W England and Scotland, including at the Hear Me Roar festival in Lancaster, the Lancaster Music Festival, Solfest,

SHERPA

Sherpa are a high energy disco band based in the Lake District.

Combining the structure of pocketed grooves with the freeness of improvisation, they provide a unique voice that gets you off your feet.

Come rain or shine, they are guaranteed to bring you that “feel-good” feeling that you’re looking for.

Comprised of university music students, currently spread across the country, come and watch as they make a Fine Fest comeback in their home town.

All the way from Northern Ireland, Martin Mor takes the traditional circus show and gives it a unique and modern twist.

This family friendly show contains circus stunts that will make you gasp, juggling tricks that will surprise you, and magic tricks that will make you go WOW!

Reggae band based in Manchester, currently working with International Roots Artist, Mr Golty Farabeau.

The Band cover a range of Reggae sub genres from Roots through to Rubadub and Old school Dancehall.

“Our performances showcase a variety of bilingual vocals including Golty’s Seychelles singing in Creole. Vocalist MC Samni provides sung and chanted vocals paying homage to original Jamaican styles whilst mixing in northern slang.

Their Saxophonist & Lead Guitarist provides sweet melodies and solos.”

TUNELESS CHOIR

After their triumphant Saturday night slot at AFF22, there was simply one band who could close the festival for us in ‘23.

A ska/reggae/hiphop band /social experiment hailing from Ulverston whose sole purpose is fun.

Expect rural rhymes and skanking times!

As seen at festivals such as Boomtown, Solfest, Beatherder, EskFest & tour support The Selecter. Bad Transmission get the people skanking wherever they go.

Matrix Circus are delighted to share their tricks with you. At Another Fine Fest you can be part of the circus too. Create memories by learning to hula hoop, juggle, spin poi, plate spin, diablo and more.

Join at your own leisure, we are here most of the day. Curator Jennifer Street aims to create art and opportunities where everyone can expand their capacity for wonder and feel empowered.

BALLERINAS

Prima ballerinas Fifi Pavlova and Dame Margot Fondue are bringing their passion for dance on to the streets.

These Tutu-clad divas will teach the general public how to perfect their demi-plies, pirouettes and first positions (Tutus and Barre will be provided.) Audiences will be moved to tears by the emotional rendition of ballet classics such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake & the Macarena.

UNCLE TIM’S FLEA CIRCUS

The band is made up of young brass, wind and percussion players between the ages of 10 and 18 from all over Lancashire.

She has recently been recording in Yellow Arch Studios in Sheffield with Paul Heaton’s guitarist and songwriter ‘Johnny Lexus’ and performing at venues such as Audio and HMV in Glasgow.

Some of her achievements include performing at Kendal Calling and her music being played on BBC Radio 6Music’s Radcliffe and Maconie show.

BOOM BIKE BOURREE

BBB bring a joyous mix of medieval dance music and hip hop beats. A four piece line-up of hurdy gurdy, beatbox, accordeon and trombone with a dose of sub bass. The musicians are from Lancaster and Ulverston but can mostly be found pounding the streets of the UK wirelessly amplified by the amazing BoomBike sound system.

Locally he’s played a number of festivals such as Folk Fell, Cumbria Unity and Kendal Music Festival.

While Pete Buckley’s influences are Cat Stevens, Richard Ashcroft, Bruce Springsteen, and Johnny Cash, his songs draw from the roots of an Irish upbringing. The main topics of his music surround love, addiction, and society.

“I'm inspired by a mixture of different music. I love to sing and perform, and sing all the hits from Bob Dylan to Amy Winehouse guaranteed to get people singing along.

I also have a couple of my own songs up my sleeve that are inspired by 60s folk.”

“I started writing poems, songs & sketches when I was still at primary school. I taught myself to sing, play drums and guitar.

I started working semi-professionally aged 14 as part of the band Crescendo. Over the next few decades I played as part of several bands and duos but my main performances were as a solo act.

These days I play guitar & sing my own versions of well known songs from the 1950's onwards.”

Heavily involved in the scene for the last 20 years, playing across the UK at some of the world's most renowned clubs.

Warmed up Sankeys main room for Fergie and Alter Ego, co-organiser of Manchester based club nights Uber Motion, resident at the infamous techno night “Colour” and co promoter of charity event Fullstop.

Gaz now solely focuses on local night Cavort, running Bright Blue Studios and is also a part of the Mindform Recordings crew.

CRAIG KIRKBY

Craig has been a favourite across the local area for a long time.

Behind such parties as Digital Beats and Underground DJs.

Craig has played in some of the UK's finest clubs including the infamous Sankeys in Manchester.

His main focus now is music production and running the record label (Mindform Recordings).

CHRIS TURTON

Chris has been spinning tunes for nearly 20 years, hosting and performing at events across the North West.

From Sankeys, Sub Club and the Music Box in Manchester to warming up for Radio 1 DJ’s Fergie & Lottie as resident at FullStop.

Bringing a unique mix of funk, disco, house & techno to the Cavort parties that he helps to promote.

LOKO

Loko DJs Enzie and Charley bringing the Loko vibes to the Cavort stage.

Loko has been catching the eyes of the local scene recently and their events are gaining some great attention.

It’s great to have these boys on board this year.

CONNOR BLACKLEY

TRIBE events founder and Liaison resident DJ, Connor has a passion for electronic dance music, growing up following the surge of underground house and disco. His inspirations are from the likes of Slapfunk Records, Music is Love, Nervous Records and Local Talk.

Connor has been dj’ing and organising events for the past 4 years and knows how to craft an upbeat set to get the crowd two stepping.

NIALL & PAT CUSH

Co founder of TRIBE DJS, Morgan Ryan brings a collection of new and old melodic house to techno.

Djing for 10 years with gigs as far as Germany and recently warming up for the likes of Ben Hemsley & Devstar.

EEKO

Since beginning to mix during the lockdown of 2020, Niall and Patrick Cush have been showcasing their shared interest for minimal house music across the local area and afar.

Playing largely under the banner of the Tribe DJ’s, the brothers are looking forward to presenting their sound at AFF 2023.

BALDASSARRE

Eeko has been DJ’ing in the Northwest for more than a decade.

His taste in underground electronic music spreads across deep house, garage, techno, minimal, ambient and acid.

Taking major influence from the Chicago house sound to the dark and spaced out ambient sounds of dub techno. He currently holds residency and organises the Electric Garden.

A part of the local circuit for the last ten years, Jacob Baldassarre has developed a high energy style taking inspiration from the Romanian minimal scene.

Resident DJ for collectives Liaison & Tribe and more recently co-founding Electric Garden.

Dan has been behind the decks for over 20 years taking influence from early progressive house and deep tech.

He learned his craft performing extended 5 hour warm up sets in the bars of Southampton.

After a few years away, Dan has recently hit play again, playing local parties for Furness Underground, Tribe and Liason as well as being part of Cumbrian trio Electric Garden.

Made up of three Gallaghers, the band will be playing a selection of laid back Sunday acoustic covers from artists such as Haim, Bob Dylan, and Patti Smithwith a few originals thrown in for good measure.

CUMBRIA COLLECTIVE

Cumbria Collective brings together a wide range of local musicians for the sole purpose of playing music alongside each other.

Being a close knit bunch already, the Collective often like to hop up on stage with each other for collaborations and occasionally a big rhythmic jam!

Expect drum circles, onstage banter, decent live music and completely wholesome vibes. Acts include; The Native Cult, Jon Dawes, The Foragers, Robbie Jay Coplen.

INSULA FIZZY MILK

Hailing from Barrow, Mark Doherty has been writing music since the age of 11.

Influenced by David Bowie, Jack White and Prince, he brings together these eclectic influences to create a unique sound all his own.

After a relocation to Liverpool, Mark is releasing his debut solo album Reckless Abandon due out mid-2023.

A band hailing from Barrow. Playing indie pop/rock music, the band is fronted by singer songwriter and guitarist Darryl Waite smashing out songs with driven guitars and stomping beats.

The sound is created by the two other guitarists, drums and bass guitar, that create a sound similar to the tones of The Clash, And a tinge of eighties style rock guitar.

Fizzy Milk is an indie/punk outfit founded in Ulverston Sixth Form.

Having recorded and released their debut EP, "Yesterday's Jam", they have vastly enjoyed playing a recent variety of gigs and events around the country at their members' various universities.

Fizzy Milk are currently working on a seven track project which structurally, instrumentally and thematically expands upon the material from their debut.

Baa Chords are a Kendal based singer- songwriter band with brass that play original songs penned by Keith Redfern and Ann Grant and a varied selection of covers.

Keith Redfern, Ann Grant, Debbie Austin and Rose Gallop make up the band and their album ‘The Baa-ck catalogue’ is available on Bandcamp.

Jamie Bosanko brings a full band to this year's festival, showcasing a string of recent new releases in a departure from his trademark solo shows.

One of the area’s prominent singer songwriters, Jamie always gives an energetic performance and his traditionally indie approach is both exciting and infectious.

Although the local collective cacophony of seals, seagulls and souped up Citroen Saxos offer fierce competition for the muchcoveted prize of “Noisiest on the Island 2023”.

Fresh from sharing a stage with indie legends “The Nightingales”, Prater Monks are finishing a new album for release in summer 23.

Emker Cel began as a studio based project for songwriter / producer / multi-instrumentalist Matt Kassell.

A trio of EPs formed the basis of the first, eponymous album in 2016.

A second album, "From the Waves" was released in 2018, followed by a series of EPs and singles.

After a break for fatherhood, the third Emker Cel album "You are Everything you are" will be released in early 2023.

FROG DYLAN

Hailing from the banks of the River Mersey, Frog Dylan formed in Liverpool in 2021. Finding influence in The Velvet Underground, The Fall, PJ Harvey and Dean Blunt; the Merseyside five-piece tightrope the edge of heartbroken overdriven lullabies, wonky samples and fully loaded garage rock. After a year locked away rehearsing hard, writing and recording their debut EP, the band are now ready to take the live show on the road.

Jon a previous winner of Glastonbury’s best new artist award has worked with the likes of Mick Jones of The Clash, Jon is now on a new path wanting to use his passion and music to help create change.

A stalwart of the Lock In stage and his first performance for us since from his mesmerising headline slot on the Coast Roads stage. A pleasure to have him back.
