WELCOME TO...
10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
AFF IS AN ANNUAL, TWICE RECORD BREAKING FREE FESTIVAL, PROMOTING A VAST SPECTRUM OF ARTISTIC ACTIVITY AND MUSIC FROM A MULTITUDE OF GENRES. WE PROMOTE CREATIVITY, WELL BEING, COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND OF COURSE, WE ARE HERE TO CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF OUR MAIN MAN STAN LAUREL IN THIS MOST BEAUTIFUL TOWN OF HIS BIRTH.
WE ALSO RAISE VITAL FUNDS FOR TWO FANTASTIC LOCAL CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS - ST MARY’S HOSPICE & ULVERSTON FOOD PROJECT.
Ten years? Really? How did that happen? What a crazy feeling it is, to reflect upon an entire decade of Another Fine Fest.
That we are still here is in some ways a bit of a miracle. With rising costs, funding ever harder to come by and festivals disappearing all over the country, it has become extremely difficult to keep this thing afloat.
But survive we have and celebrate we shall!
From very humble beginnings but with very big ideas back in 2014, our festival has grown beyond our wildest expectations. It makes me so incredibly proud to see how this thing has evolved and to see the love for it grow over the years.
This one's for you beautiful people.
For everyone that believed in the dream and helped us to make it a reality. You are all invited to help us mark this unbelievable milestone and join us on our mission to SPREAD THE LOVE!
We extend our deepest gratitude to all our sponsors and of course our 822 dedicated crowdfunders (approx 5% of our attendees) - whose generous support has been instrumental in bringing our multi-arts festival to life year after year.
These public donations make up the largest source of funding for our fest!
Your belief in our vision has allowed us to flourish and grow beyond our wildest dreams. Without your invaluable contributions, our festival would not exist, and we are truly humbled by your generosity. Thank you for helping us continue to inspire, unite, and celebrate the beauty of creativity in all its forms.
Award winning comedians as seen on shows such as 8 out of 10 Cats, Mock The Week & Live at the Apollo. Giving an exclusive glimpse of their forthcoming Edinburgh shows.10 of the very best acts on the scene.

Tesco does not need your quids. They've ignored requests to support our event despite making significant profits from it. However, they did make £2.6 billion during a cost of living crisis.
Glass gives us all manner of headaches. It is dangerous and we have to clear it all up, costing us a LOT of money and stretching our very tight budget.
Please do not drink from glass on the streets and potentially injure thousands of feets!
No waste will go to landfill. It will be taken to the MBT (mechanical biological treatment) centre close by in Barrow. Here it will be sorted, all the recyclables separated & the rest made into fuels (Solid Recovered Fuel) or road surfacing.
In conjunction with Mycelium Thinking, we aim to become a carbon neutral festival by 2037. Find out more about what we are doing to try and achieve this on page 7.
Expect a dazzling array of festival traders offering all manner of wares and a reet tasty food court, representing multiple cuisines from all over our planet.

Includes programmes, plantable wristbands and various other lovely items - with profits being ploughed back into sustainability schemes. (Outside the Laurel & Hardy Museum)
Don’t forget to visit our wonderful independent venues and stores. We have a cornucopia of unique outlets offering everything you could possibly need.
Buying local is the best way to be environmentally friendly while supporting our community. By purchasing locally produced food & goods, you help stimulate our economy, retain valuable jobs, support families and strengthen our community and culture.
PLEASE DONATE
We’ll be totally honest, it’s been a massive struggle this year. Creating a huge and completely free festival where all artists & staff are paid has always been a challenge. But this year it has become almost impossible with spiralling costs. (The only volunteers we have are our lovely fundraisers who donate a couple of hours to collect for the charities/next year’s event).
. We have seen so many festivals cancelled this summer and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to continue as things are.
If you see one of our friendly volunteers in their official #anotherfinefest gear, please consider making a donation (to be split between us & our charitable organisations. You can also pledge via the QR code on the front page of this guide!
Please check last bus/train times & updates well in advance & expect services to be busy.
We asked Stagecoach & Northern to provide extra services to no avail. Hopefully next year! Stagecoach will however provide double rather than single deckers. Thank you Stagecoach!

ANNA SHARPE
My love for mountainous landscapes has taken me across the world climbing peaks and sketching them.
I recognise both climbing and art to be ways of interacting with wild places; this is the starting point for most of my artistic endeavours.
In a time when the environment is frequently mistreated as a resource, I look to reawaken our physical and spiritual connections to it.
KATE BRUNSKILL
BECKI GILL
Becki Gill is a freelance illustrator based in the Lake District, UK who mainly specializes in portraiture, pattern illustration and food. Her work is heavily inspired by pop culture and musical icons.
She predominantly works in a digital format, hand drawing her illustrations in Procreate; but still likes to give her work a 'mixed media' feel with bold sketchy lines, textured shading and a playful use of colour.
KATHERINE HARRIS
I’ve taken part in AFF window painting since the very first year and I’m now excited to be part of the 10th birthday celebration. It’s such an exciting way to be creative amid the music, performers and the festival atmosphere!
I’m inspired by fantasy books and computer games and hope to bring some more odd characters to life on Amigos window this year. Kate (Wolf Town Art).
Katherine is an illustrator and graphic designer who lives in Barrow-in-Furness. She creates her work using mostly gouache and coloured pencil.
Her illustrations tend to have themes of history, legends and stories. Since studying illustration at Falmouth university, Katherine has gone on to create work for magazines such as Honest History and Scoop.
I'm so excited to take part in AFF24. It's an absolute privilege to work alongside the immense talent that comes together to create this awesome festival.
I've tried to do at least one creative thing each year, be it window scrawlings, live painting, playing in a band, decorating pub gardens, bespoke art for sponsors - even face painting one year! I love it!
BETHAN THORSBY
Bethan’s
work supports local business & grass roots arts organisations.
Her style balances playful & nostalgic illustration with a bright & bold graphic design sensibility. In her celebrations of nature & community, Bethan creates stand-out, alluring visuals for brands, venues & products. Clients include Kendal Mountain Festival.

MIKE THOMPSON
I am a South Lakes based wildlife artist creating realistic animal portraiture including wildlife, farming breeds and pet commissions, in soft pastels or coloured pencils.
I love capturing the character and expression of the animals I draw.
I have a particular soft spot for red squirrels and also use my artwork to help raise awareness and funds for local red squirrel charities and conservation groups.
I paint more figuratively in oil, although flowers and still life feature more and more. I draw with charcoal, such a joy. I feel that drawing and painting are a form of meditation. Sally will be drawing festival goers to Ulverston on her window, stand still for long enough and you might get captured!
I am a rural mural artist, hailing from Barrow. I started @kissmyarts when realising I had a couple of mural commissions. Since then, I have created work for Barrow AFC and other businesses around the area.
I love painting windows for AFF. It’s always a privilege to be asked back every year, and look forward to mingling on the cobblestones again!
SALLY BROADBENT
Sally creates artwork based around the idea that we are all interconnected via a collective unconscious.
Symbols figure significantly in her work as she explores the meaning that we give to them. Sally conducts practice-based research into how myth creates meaning and what it can bring to our lives as individuals as well as a wider society.
MORE GLITTER DEAR
Highly saturated and textured illustrations with inspiration from vintage kitsch and retro kawaii culture, if it’s bright and cute, I love it.
Excited to paint a window for AFF24, it’s fabulous being part of Ulverston’s creative community, thank you for having me!

OTHERMAN
I've been writing graffiti for 30 years on and off. Always tried to honour traditional styles and typography studies, while bringing my own thoughts and techniques.
More recently proud to be involved in bringing larger work to the public space and contributing to a wider understanding of graff artists and their value to our culture.
Personally I’ll be found painting, sketching, making, sculpting and modelling on a much smaller scale these days but always looking back to the old school writers traditions to guide my work.
