Benjamin Franklin is one of my greatest heroes of all time. “Old Ben” not only invented some really cool gadgets in his day, but he has also been considered the inventor of The American Dream. You may quote him now and then without even knowing it. • A penny saved is a penny earned • God helps those who help themselves • No gains without pains • Eat to live; not live to eat
And there are dozens more cataloged in his eighteenth century best seller, Poor Richard’s Almanac.
Dr. Franklin had no more than two years of formal schooling, but he was considered one of the most brilliant leaders among the American Colonists in the mid-1700s. He believed and taught with enthusiasm and humor that every American could experience financial freedom by practicing thrift. Thrift is a word derived from thrive. To thrive means careful management of our material resources (money, especially) and implies responsible stewardship of our time, energy, and relationships.
