The public plaza act as an infrastructural element and a landmark to the city. It also act as a public shelter for the affected people during any course of disaster. The robust scale and use of material itself symbolise the safety of the people. Also, the urban population tend to spend 90% of their lives indoors, and urge for public spaces due to lack of urban open space. The proposed structure functions three parameters here- Interpretation centre, public plaza and shelter during pandemic situations.

6. Street Design Year Project Type Scope Institute Location

2020 Academic Urban Design- Pedestrian friendly street CEPT University Mandvi, Vadodara

Mandvi, the core city area of the Vadodara city, a mixed- land use development, majorly dominated by the heritage market area, government official buildings and residential area. Histroically, the city centre was designed as a walk-able market place enclosed by the fort walls. But now, due to rapid urbanisation and increase in vehicles, pedestrians find difficulty in walking, no safety for cyclists, and no safe spaces for vendors. The area is characterised by a densely build form with 5 gates at the ends and intersections of the cross roads. The main mandvi road are narrow varying dfrom 12m to 18m in right of way. While, it act as the arterial road to cross the city from one side to another, along with other adjacent roads.
