The studio believes in doing things differently and not just doing different things. It is a small studio with collectibles from all around the world. It is a very inspiring place to work and has a very personal style. The walls are adorned by masks

and posters and all the members of the studio have a little space right above their desks that they can decorate or style as they wish to. The studio also a has small but rich library of design related books, one can spend six weeks at the studio but still can’t get enough of the keenly selected books by the founder. Area

OF WORK

As a graphic design intern I was never loaded with a lot of work. The aim was to make me better understand the design process and style of work the studio caters to. On the first day I was asked to lend my hands to organising a workshop that the studio was going to conduct. It was to make me feel comfortable and blend it with members. Through out my internship I was made to do different sorts of tasks from graphic design to shopping for the studio. It helped my better evolve with studio and realise that working at a studio has more than just making designs. Apart from my mentor I was asked to mix up and communicate with all the members at the studio, which helped realise through their feedback the importance of minute

details, deliberateness in design and working in a processed manner. During the course of my six weeks internship, I handled varied projects as my mentor allowed the to me. Most of them were for a furniture manufacturing company, I worked for the social media posts to their environment design. Then with time I was asked to design a logo, layout articles for an e-magazine and produce user interface for for a website. Some of the clients I worked for Indoline Bombay logo Company The Acropolitan One

Scope

OF WORK As an intern, I worked on a lot of different projects. This helped me understand the constraint of deadlines and the limitations and opportunities of exploration for varied projects . Working at SIXOFUS taught me sensitivity of design. I got more involved in identity and user interface design. As a graphic design student I see myself working into branding. The internship also oped the gates for me to try my hands more on user interface design.

THE ACROPOLITAN

Magazine article layout design

3

LAYOUT DESIGN About the client The Acropolitan is a monthly E-Magzine. It was initiated by small group of people who are a part of one of the Mumbai based philosophy club. The magazine throws light on all kinds of philosophical subjects and also includes stories of famous philosophers around the world. It also has a column mentioning all the details of other philosophy related events taking place in the next months. Janki Mehta is responsible for the editorial and lay outing of the magazine.

Project description This project had been assigned as a task to all the interns at the studio. The task was to layout an article in the magazine. The grid, fonts, header and footer had been provided and remained same on all the pages. The images had to be sourced from the internet with their copyrights and a set of highlighted text in the body copy was mentioned. Design pointers The idea was to come up with a unique layout whilst following the given restrictions. The aim was to have neat and interesting looking article with a creative touch which could catch any reader’s eye.

Ideation: Sribbling layouts on paper before starting the project helped broden the perspective on multiple ways of execution without the elemination of any of the before mentioned restrictions

Trials: This article is the result of a trip I recently made to Athens, Epidaurus, Olympia and Delphi. Walking through its stunning archeology, pausing at monuments, and gazing spellbound at its sacred temples, I couldn’t help but ponder what might have inspired such a civilization.

N

ursing at her bosom, Greece nurtured such an altitude of knowledge and amplitude of wisdom that it came to be called the cradle of Western Civilization. Herodotus, regarded as the Father of History, lived here. Solon envisioned the origins of Democracy here. Socrates, for some the Father of Philosophy, taught in its marketplaces. Phidias the sculptor created his monumental masterpieces to adorn its temples. Democritus conceptualized a cosmos built of atoms. Hippocrates, whose oath modern doctors still swear by, practiced here. Aeschylus, Euripides, Sophocles and Aristophanes molded theatre in its arenas. Pythagoras, Plato and Aristotle established discipular schools here, and their insights became the foundation of modern mathematics, philosophy and science.

So influential was the Greek tradition in almost every sphere that even when the entire Greek Peninsula had become a province of Rome, it was Greek art, culture, language and learning, that was absorbed by Rome, leading the Roman poet Horace to remark, “Captive Greece captured her rude conqueror.” As the ruins came to life, a rich fabric of the daily activities of an ordinary citizen began to vividly weave itself together in my imagination, and my understanding of the Ancient Greek tradition deepened. Let us travel back in time, to retrace the steps of a fictional protagonist, Demetrius, on what might have been a typical day.

Miscellaneous Working as an intern at Sixofus design was more than just graphic design. I was taught how to hold and organise workshops since the the studio is holding six workshops this year on their completion of 15 years in the industry. I was lucky enough to be able to attend two of them. One of the workshops that I worked for was a perfume making workshop for the human body’s olfactory sense. I helped in designing little bottles that were to be used for this workshop. For the second workshop I had to prepare myself as guide. The workshop was a trip to Kanheri Caves, I was assigned the duty to be an information guide as all of us took a stroll through Snajay Gandhi National Park. For this task I had to read

up as much as I could about the topic so that I was able to deliver it to everyone. Apart from workshop I also helped Shalaka i.e the studio manager with shopping for studio essentials (tea/coffee, snacks, toilet paper etc.) This helped me realise that managing a deign studio is more than just making designs. I would also lend hands into cleaning and organising at the studio and setting up books in the shelves.

Learning Outcomes Design Working at Sixofus really broadened aspects in terms of both design as well as life . I learnt how important it is to find more ways to solve a design problem instead of just being stuck to one idea. At the same time I also realised and accepted that sometime creativity has to take a back seat as what the client wants and their brief becomes the most important thing. Professional Etiquettes I am a very shy person and thus I was always made to speak most of the times so that I could curb my fear of speaking up for myself. Eventually this became a habit and I now believe that I am less

scared of interactions comparatively. I also realised articulation in the key to good communication. Most importantly I realised that it is very essential to know your tools. Even if you don’t know always have the urge to learn. There is always a smarter way to go about something.

Acknowledgements I would like to thank my head Mrs. Janki Shah and my mentor Ms.Sneha Punjabi for guiding me throughout all the projects. She gave me enough time and freedom to explore. I would also want to thank all the other members at studio, they always made it feel like home in a different city. I would also like to thank my parents who have always constantly supported me throughout, my faculty Ms. Lolita Dutta and Mr. Sambit Pradhan for always pushing me to improve and my friends who always lend their ears to listen to my story.

Thank you
