Nature Day activities For the whole summer, all children from Gevgelija have the opportunity to explore and learn about nature, during the picnics and activities that are part of the environmental project called Nature Day. The most interesting trip for the children in July was the visit of the 2 waterfalls near Strumica. One of the things they learned was that there are around 150 waterfalls in Macedonia. The highest one is on mountain Korab. It is 138 meters high and is located under the top Mal Korab. Hidden in the deepest forests, visited only by the bravest and the most persistent nature lovers, the waterfalls are a unique event and adventure. The most visited are the waterfall in Smolare and Koleshino, at the slopes of the mountain Belasica.

At the border between Macedonia, Bulgaria and Greece, at 650 meters above the see level the Smolare waterfall is located. It is one of the biggest waterfalls on Belasica, where the water falls from the rocks at a height of 35-40 meters. The area around the waterfall is abundant with vegetation and moss that never changes its green color. Here, during winter, nature creates the most beautiful icicles hanging over the rocks. In front of the waterfall there is a hole for which the locals tell their own story. The legend says that King Marko jumped with his horse from the waterfall, and the horse’s shoe made a hole in the stone. The people from Smolare call this hole “dira”. Near the Smolare waterfall is located the Kolesino waterfall. It is in the south-east part of the country, in the lower flow of the Baba River. It is 21 meters high, with fall width of about 16 meters, and is of the step-type of waterfalls. All children were delighted by the beauty of the nature they saw, and the things they learned about water conservation, and pollution were very affective on them.

Association of school sport The association of school sport of the community in Gevgelija is part of the Federation of school sport which has associations like this one all over Macedonia. This association organizes sport activities, games and matches for talented children who are interested in sports and has been chosen from their teacher in the schools. In July they had football game that was held in Serbia, and Apollonia Foundation helped them by giving small donation for covering some of the transportation costs. One of the things that children learn when they do sports in teams is the individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.

Scholarship for individuals Apollonia Foundation, has always supported education, because it is one of the essential components of life. Donations to the schools, educational projects, sending teachers to seminars and individual scholarships are the things that the foundation does for the education as one of the “branches” of the public interest. This year the first scholarship went to Marija, student in third year at the University Ovidius in Constanca, Romania. She is studding medicine, or more specifical dental mechanics, has excellent grades, and her demand for donation satisfies the conditions that the foundation has for giving scholarships. We hope that one day we’ll be able to form Apollonia Academy, with fond for children that has very good grades and can’t afford university studies.
