“The stars for Danilo” is the name of the big humanitarian concert that was held in Skopje on the 19th September in organization of Two hearts production and had purpose to raise money for the operation of 3 years old Danilo who is sick from lymphoblastic leukemia and is on medical treatment in Germany. The costs for the treatment were 330.000 euro and our Ministry of health approved 80% of the amount, so Danilo needed 130.000 euro more for the operation. Thanks to all humanitarian and generous people, and thanks to the efforts of some companies, music productions, musical stars, press,… the goal was reached, Danilo was operated and now is on remission. We hope that soon he’ll return home safe and sound.

The first international barista festival in Macedonia called Apollonia barista cup was held in Gevgelija on the 19th September in Apollonia Hotel under organization of the Special Macedonia coffee association and Barista academy. Ten bartenders artists with from Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Bulgaria, in front of the international jury competed in five disciplines for preparing few coffee drinks: best late art, cappuccino, espresso, best own made coffee drink and best working technique. In order to popularize the coffee culture and the presentation of the world trends in this area, in the frames of this festival was alsopromoted the book “No logo, just taste” from the author Nik Orosi. In his work he will notice: “The coffee is art. Art of living and art of managing with the challenges of life, and mostly art of understanding.” Orosi in his research appoints that from all agriculture products the coffee is the most complex. The wine has nearly 200 different elements and in the coffee so far are discovered, almost 2.000 elements. Host and sponsor of this event was Apollonia Group.

Donation to Gevgelija city Hospital Health is one of the areas that Apollonia Group has been supporting in the past 26 years and investing in the medical field is one of the status acts of Apollonia Foundation. In order to reach the goal - improvement the health care in our community Apollonia Foundation last month gave donation to the city hospital in Gevgelija. The financial help will be used to cover part of the costs for transportation of donated medical equipment and appliances from World Medical Relief, Inc from Detroit, Michigan USA. Gevgelija city hospital is health institution with 200 people medical personal from which 32 are medical specialist, has 160 hospital berths and compared to the number of citizens of Gevgelija provides optimal public health service and treatment. The manager of the hospital D-r. Sretko Jovanov gratifies for the cooperation with the local business community because of the understanding of the needs for renewal on the equipment in more departments in the hospital. Other donation that was also realized last month in this field, was the donation to a professional medical person from this hospital for covering some of the costs for attending on the 5th ADRIATIC DRUG ADDICTION TREATMENT CONFERENCE and the 7th SEEA (South Eastern European Adriatic Addiction Treatment Network) symposium on addictive behaviors in Ohrid. The main topics of this international conference were treatment of drug users with comorbidity and cooperation with existent drug prevention and treatment services, medical, social and other services and NGOs in the region, treatment of Hepatitis C, different praxis through the region and treatment in prisons. The next step for Apollonia Foundation was partnership with the department for transfusion medicine from city hospital Gevgelija and the red cross but you’ll read more about this in the next newsletter.
World’s teachers Day concert In Apollonia Hotel in Gevgelija on the 5th September was celebrated the World teachers day with concert of classical music performed by the students from the class of professor Ljubica Ulisheva from the music school in Gevgelija. Sixteen students on age 4 to 12 years, performed for their teachers and family, and with that they give significance to this world wide celebrated holiday. Teacher - that is a noble profession, which elevates the people to one high human pedestal, as person with high moral and intellectual qualities. It’s good that we can give them recognition for their work on that special day.

Apollonia Football team
On the occasion of the holiday 21st September Christmas of Blessed Virgin Mary in Bogorodica, village near Gegelija, for 10 days traditionally every year is held football tournament for children on age 9-16 years. Every year around 70 kids from the community and local villages participate in this tournament and fight for the first place in the 3 categories. Apollonia Foundation this year for the first time had team of sixteen years old children that was representing us, and playing under Apollonia name. Martin Atanasov, Atanas Gorgiev, Vasko Vasilev, Angelco Curlinov, Petar Karakolev and Ljube Nikov were the Apollonia football team that won the third place in Bogorodica football tournament. We’re proud with their success, and with their enthusiasm and wish for doing sports.
Nature Day - cleaning action Apollonia Foundation continues the monthly cleaning actions that we realize with the children from the environmental project Nature Day in our community. In the second weekend of September we made clean up event in and around the primary school Vlado Kantardziev which is one of the places in the town where we have selection of the plastic. Since April together with the primary schools and public services in Gevgelija we started the plastic recycling project on 4 locations in Gevgelija. We had problems from the local people who are destroying the containers and stealing the plastic, but the plastic selection still continues. The public services promised to set up new iron bins on these and other locations and we’re hoping that the people will learn how important is that we recycle. The program for plastic selection continues with the youngest generation in the schools in Gevgelija. Activities of the folk group Negorci
In August the folklore group Negorci from Gevgelija represented the Macedonian culture on the 26th International SIVO festival in Nederland, where they performed with other 18 folk groups from 5 continents and several groups from Nederland. This folk group has been present on the international festival scenes in Europe for 10 years and they have realized 250 concerts from which 100 are abroad. From 2002 until 2009 they had 5 European tours with participance on 11 International festivals. Apollonia Foundation, same as last year, supported their work by helping them with donation for their participance on SIVO festival.
Traditional fig festival 2010
On the 5th September in Gevgelija traditionally was held the forth fig festival which had regional character this year , whit participance of teams from Gevgelija, Bogdanci, Valandovo and Dojran. The price for preparing best sweet from figs went to Lence Urdinova and Karasabanova Frosina from Bogdanci. The manifestation started with parade of all participance through the center of Gevgelija to the city stadium, where besides the contest the public had pleasure to enjoy good culture program, and to try fig specialties from the kitchen of Apollonia Hotel and other local companies. We are proud to say that from the very beginning we support and believe in this project which is recognizable for our community.
