Nature Day for Clean and European Macedonia On the 21st of September the government organized cleaning action in the whole of Macedonia under the slogan “For clean and European Macedonia”, and invited all institutions, companies, NGO’s, and individuals to take part in this environmental protective event. This action was organized in order to promote the new law for public cleanliness which is now in force. Apollonia Foundation participated in this event with the children from Nature Day and volunteers from the staff of Apollonia Group. Children and adults joined forces against the mess and the damage in our environment that we are responsible for.

We worked on two locations: the streets in the center of Gevgelija, and on Vardarski hill, around the Motel Vardar and the archeological site there. It is very good that the government organized this kind of action, and our children did a very good job that day. For a year now we’ve been cleaning the areas that we visit on the Nature Day, and now we hope that the adults will also follow our example.

Nature day picnic in Smolarski Waterfall On the occasion of starting the new school year the Nature Day team on the 6th of September organized picnic to Smolarski Waterfall for all the children who were really active in our activities during the summer. You can see from the pictures how it went, and if you haven’t visited this place don’t doubt to go there and see all the beauty that our camera didn't catch.

The Smolarski Waterfall is situated 30 km from Strumica, near the village of Smolari. The path that leads to the waterfall is more than 1 km long and for the most part it is paved with stones. The Smolarski Waterfall is 35 m high and it is located on the River Lomnica at an altitude of 651 metres. The view from the wooden bridge is magnificent as well as the surrounding nature which is dominated by the sounds of the waterfall.

Thank you letter from the Lesnovo Monastery It’s our pleasure to present you the thank you letter that we received from the monastery in Lesnovo, on behalf of the 30.000 den. grant that Apollonia Foundation donated to this church.

The ancient church and monastery “Presveta Bogorodica– Istocen Petok Balaklija” on the Zletovska river, that dates from the 13th century and is under the administration of the Lesnovo Monastery, has fallen in complete ruins during the past 50 years. This monastery has enormous cultural and historical meaning for our people because of the rich literary and transcript activity during the whole middle century under Lesnovo and Kratovo’s literate center wing, which greatly contributed the spreading of literacy and preserving the identity, nationality and the culture of the Macedonian people. The entire reconstruction of the monastery started this summer 2008 with the building of the new church and bell tower, and already we are making the preparation for building the church hospice. Many municipalities and companies, in addition to a lot of believers we asked for aid, alongside Apollonia Foundation, unselfishly and generously helped us renovate the monastery. With great respect, we express our gratitude to you as a Foundation, for your love and care towards our monastery , and we hope that also in future you will find strength to help us rebuild the monasteries, all within the frames of your abilities. May God bless you, and may you have a lot of success in your work and in life. Igumen Damaskin
