Φίλες και φίλοι του Απόλλωνα, Σας χαιρετώ από ακόμη μία έκδοση του Match Program στο πλαίσιο

του 113ου αγώνα της ομάδας μας στις Ευρωπαϊκές διοργανώσεις. Ο

Απόλλωνας για πέμπτη φορά συμμετέχει στη φάση των ευρωπαϊκών ομίλων.

Με δεδομένο ότι η ομάδα μας έχει να δώσει ακόμη πέντε αγώνες

στη φάση των ομίλων, τότε θα συμπληρώσουμε 118 ευρωπαϊκές αναμετρήσεις και ταυτόχρονα θα ανέβουμε στην τρίτη θέση της σχετικής κατάταξης των κυπριακών ομάδων που συμμετέχουν στους ευρωπαϊκούς αγώνες.

Μόνο και μόνο αν αναλογιστεί κανείς ότι από το 2013 η ομάδα μας έδωσε τους 68 αγώνες στην Ευρώπη, δείχνει την πρόοδο και την ανοδική πορεία του Απόλλωνα ιδιαίτερα τα τελευταία δέκα χρόνια όπου αγωνίζεται ανελλιπώς στην Ευρώπη ενώ κάθε χρόνο διεκδικεί τίτλους στις εγχώριες διοργανώσεις.

Ευχόμαστε βέβαια το φετινό ευρωπαϊκό ταξίδι να μας φέρει περισσότερους από 118 αγώνες και να προκριθούμε στην επόμενη φάση της διοργάνωσης. Βρισκόμαστε σε έναν όμιλο στον οποίο έχουμε να αντιμετωπίσουμε την ΑΖ Άλκμααρ, τη Βαντούζ και τη Ντνίπρο-1. Δυστυχώς το ξεκίνημα μας δεν ήταν το καλύτερο αφού η ισοπαλία στο Λιχτενστάιν μας στέρησε δύο βαθμούς. Αφήνουμε πίσω την εκτός έδρας ισοπαλία και ο μοναδικός στόχος στον αποψινό αγώνα είναι η νίκη η οποία θα μας δώσει το πλεονέκτημα έναντι των Ουκρανών.

Η συμμετοχή στους ομίλους ωστόσο, σημαίνει και επιβαρυμένο πρόγραμμα. Η αγωνιστική περίοδος 2022-23 προμηνύεται αρκετά δύσκολη κι απαιτητική καθώς ο προπονητής καλείται να διαχειριστεί το ρόστερ με τον καλύτερο δυνατό τρόπο έτσι ώστε να εκπληρώσουμε και τους φετινούς μας στόχους.

Dear Apollon fans,

I greet you from yet another edition of the Match Program in the context of our team’s 113th match in European competitions. Apollon participates in the European group stage for the fifth time in our history.

Given that our team still has five matches to play in the group stage, we will complete 118 European matches and at the same time we will rise to the third position in the relative ranking of Cypriot teams participating in European matches.

Considering that since 2013, our team has played 68 games in Europe, it shows the progress and upward trajectory of Apollon especially in the last decade where our team competes continuously in Europe while contesting for trophies in the domestic competitions every season.

We certainly hope that this year’s European trip will allow us to surpass the 118 European matches by qualifying for the knock out stage of the competition.

We are in a group in which we have to face AZ Alkmaar, Vaduz and Dnipro-1. Unfortunately, we didn’t get off to the best of starts as a draw in Liechtenstein costed us two points.

We put the away draw behind us and the only goal in tonight’s game is the win which will give us the advantage over the Ukrainian team.

Participation in the groups, however, also means a burdened schedule. The 2022-23 season is predicted to be quite difficult and demanding as the coach is called upon to manage the roster in the best possible way so that we also fulfill all of our goals this year.

«Να κυριαρχήσουμε στον αγώνα»

Γεια σας φίλες και φίλοι του Απόλλωνα αρχικά θα ήθελα να εκφράσω την περηφάνια και τη χαρά μας που αγωνιζόμαστε στους ομίλους ευρωπαϊκής διοργάνωσης. Δεν είχαμε το ιδανικό ξεκίνημα με την ισοπαλία στο Λιχτενστάιν, αλλά διατηρούμε τον ίδιο στόχο πριν την έναρξη των αγωνιστικών υποχρεώσεων: Την πρόκριση στον επόμενο γύρο.

Αντιμετωπίζουμε την Ντνίπρο-1, μια πολύ καλή και ποιοτική ομάδα που δεν βρίσκεται

τυχαία στους ομίλους. Αυτή η ομάδα δεν έχει καμία σχέση με αυτή που αντιμετώπισε η

ΑΕΚ πριν από λίγες εβδομάδες. Έχει φέρει 5-6 νέους ποδοσφαιριστές, οι οποίοι ανέβασαν το επίπεδο της και έχει κάνει τρεις συνεχόμενες νίκες στο πρωτάθλημά της. Είναι ένας

αντίπαλος που παίζει πολύ καλά και διαθέτει συμπαγή άμυνα, η οποία δύσκολα μπορεί να διασπαστεί. Σε ότι αφορά το επιθετικό κομμάτι, παίζουν άμεσο και κάθετο ποδόσφαιρο, με γρήγορους εξτρέμ και έναν επιθετικό περιοχής.

Από την άλλη, έχουμε κι εμείς τα δικά μας προτερήματα και γνωρίζουμε τη σημασία των τριών βαθμών. Θα παίξουμε για τη νίκη αλλά οι ευρωπαϊκοί αγώνες είναι πάντοτε ξεχωριστοί και τα συναισθήματα που υπάρχουν είναι διαφορετικά. Ωστόσο θα μπούμε στον αγωνιστικό χώρο με την ίδια φιλοσοφία, θα προσπαθήσουμε να κυριαρχήσουμε στον αγώνα, να

διατηρήσουμε τη κατοχή της μπάλας και να δημιουργήσουμε προβλήματα στον αντίπαλο. Καλή μας επιτυχία.

«Dominate the game»

Hello Apollon fans... we are very proud to be playing in the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage. Today we face Dnipro-1, a quality team who deserve to be in this stage. Unfortunately, we did not have a good result in Liechtenstein but we keep the same target that we have set from the beginning, which is to qualify to next round. Starting from today, we want to win every game, especially our home games and achieve the best possible for our club.

Dnipro-1 is a different team in comparison with the club that AEK faced three weeks ago. They are definitely more ready and prepared as it is evident from their three straight wins in domestic league. They have signed 5-6 new players since then and they ‘ve increased the level and performance of the team. It’s a well worked opponent especially in defense as they are very compact. As a result, it’s very difficult to penetrate between their lines and we will have to be creative in attacking movements.

With that being said, they are dangerous offensively due to their direct, fast paced style and combinations between their attackers both their quick wingers along with the target man in through central positions.

European nights are always special for every footballer in the world. The emotions are different in comparison with domestic matches. We know the importance of getting the three points tonight and we want to show that through with our performance on the pitch. We will go for the win as it is always our goal for every European game with our fans by our side, we want to dominate the game through possession and by having effective attacking movements to create for ourselves good goalscoring opportunities.

Dnipro-1 Η ιστορία

Η Dnipro-1 δημιουργήθηκε το 2015 με κύριο σκοπό την αποκατάσταση και βοήθεια των υπερασπιστών της Ουκρανίας και την κοινωνικοποίηση του στρατού μέσω του ποδοσφαίρου. Το όνομα του αθλητικού συλλόγου «Dnipro-1» προέρχεται από το τάγμα εθελοντών «Dnipro-1», το οποίο από τον Απρίλιο του 2014 υπερασπίζεται την Ουκρανία μαζί με τις υπόλοιπες ουκρανικές στρατιωτικές μονάδες. Ο αθλητικός σύλλογος δημιουργήθηκε μετά από πρωτοβουλία των επίτιμων διοικητών του συντάγματος «Dnipro-1» Yuriy Bereza και Gennady Polonskyi.

Το 2016, η ομάδα Dnipro-1 κέρδισε το Defender’s Cup και ίδρυσε το League of Power Agencies. Το 2017, η ομάδα συμμετείχε στο φιλανθρωπικό τουρνουά «Super cup of the defender of Ukraine in football». Στις 29 Απριλίου 2017, η SC «Dnipro-1» έκανε το ντεμπούτο της στο First League του πρωταθλήματος της περιοχής Dnipropetrovsk. Dnipro-1 The history

Dnipro-1 was created in 2015 with the main purpose being, to rehabilitate and help the defenders of Ukraine and to socialize the military through football.

The name of the Sports Club “Dnipro-1” comes from the “Dnipro-1” volunteer battalion, which since April 2014 has been defending Ukraine along with the rest of the Ukrainian military units. The sports club was created following the initiative of the honorary commanders of the “Dnipro-1” regiment Yuriy Bereza and Gennady Polonskyi

In 2016, the Dnipro-1 team won the Defender’s Cup and founded the League of Power Agencies. In 2017, the team participated in the charity tournament “Supercup of the defender of Ukraine in football”.

On April 29, 2017, SC “Dnipro-1” debuted in the First League of the championship of the Dnipropetrovsk region. On June 21, 2017, SC “Dnipro-1” received the status of a professional club and was accepted as a member of the PFL Second League championship for the 2017-18 season.

Το γήπεδο των μελών του αθλητικού συλλόγου είναι το «DniproArena», όπου το «Dnipro-1» έπαιξε τον πρώτο του αγώνα ως επαγγελματικό σωματείο στις 9 Ιουλίου 2017, στο πλαίσιο του Κυπέλλου Ουκρανίας, νικώντας τη «Bukovyna» από το Chernivtsi 5:0.

Με βάση τα αποτελέσματα της σεζόν 2017-18, η «Dnipro-1» κατέλαβε την πρώτη θέση στον όμιλο «B» της Β’ League και κέρδισε το εισιτήριο για την First League του πρωταθλήματος της χώρας.

Επίσης, την ίδια σεζόν, η ομάδα έφτασε στα ημιτελικά του Κυπέλλου Εθνικής.

Σύμφωνα με τα αποτελέσματα της σεζόν 2018-19, η Ντνίπρο-1

κέρδισε το First League και κέρδισε ένα εισιτήριο για την UPL.

Επίσης την ίδια σεζόν, η ομάδα έφτασε στα ημιτελικά του Εθνικού Κυπέλλου για δεύτερη συνεχόμενη φορά.

Τη σεζόν 2019-20, ο «Dnipro-1» κατέλαβε την 7η θέση στο πρωτάθλημα UPL, κερδίζοντας το «Prestige Cup» για τον καλύτερο σύλλογο της δεύτερης εξάδας και επίσης έχασε στους ημιτελικούς των πλέι οφ για ένα εισιτήριο για το Europa League.

Το επόμενο μεγάλο βήμα του συλλόγου ήταν η 3η θέση στο τέλος της σεζόν 2021/22, η οποία δεν διεξάχθηκε πλήρως λόγω του πολέμου που εξαπέλυσε η Ρωσία εναντίον της Ουκρανίας.

Αυτό το επίτευγμα επέτρεψε για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία της SC «Dnipro-1» να ξεκινήσει σε ευρωπαϊκά κύπελλα (γύρος πλέι οφ του UEFA Europa League).

Ο κάτοχος του ρεκόρ του συλλόγου για τον αριθμό των επίσημων αγώνων που παίχτηκαν (όλα τα επαγγελματικά τμήματα και το Κύπελλο Ουκρανίας) είναι ο Serhii Loginov - 130 αγώνες (στοιχεία στην αρχή της σεζόν 2022/2023). Ο κάτοχος του ρεκόρ για τον αριθμό των γκολ που σημειώθηκαν σε επίσημους αγώνες είναι ο Ihor Kogut (37 γκολ).

At the beginning of July 2017, the team was headed by Dmytro Mykhaylenko together with his coaching staff.

The home stadium of the sports club members is the “Dnipro-Arena”, where “Dnipro-1” played its first match as a professional club on July 9, 2017, as part of the Ukrainian Cup, defeating “Bukovyna” from Chernivtsi 5:0.

According to the results of the 2017-18 season, “Dnipro-1” took first place in Group “B” of the Second League and earned a ticket to the First League of the country’s championship. Also, the same season, the team reached the semi-finals of the National Cup.

According to the results of the 2018-19 season, Dnipro-1 won the First League and won a ticket to the UPL. Also the same season, the team reached the semi-finals of the National Cup for the second time in a row.

In the 2019-20 season, “Dnipro-1” took 7th place in the UPL championship, winning the “Prestige Cup” for the best club of the second six, and also lost in the semifinals of the playoffs for a ticket to the Europa League.

The club’s next big step was 3rd place at the end of the 2021/22 season, which was not played in full due to the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine. This achievement allowed for the first time in the history of SC “Dnipro-1” to start in European Cups (playoff round of the UEFA Europa League).

The club’s record holder for the number of official matches played (all professional divisions and the Cup of Ukraine) is Serhii Loginov - 130 games (data at the beginning of the 2022/2023 season). The record holder for the number of goals scored in official matches is Ihor Kogut (37 goals).

Από τον 3ο προκριματικό του Champions League ξεκίνησε το ευρωπαϊκό οδοιπορικό του Απόλλωνα Λεμεσού για την αγωνιστική περίοδο 2022-23. Η ομάδα μας αποκλείστηκε από τη Μακάμπι Χάιφα με συνολικό σκορ 2-4 μετρώντας μία νίκη και μία ήττα.

Βαριά ήττα στο Ισραήλ

Στον πρώτο αγώνα η ομάδα μας ηττήθηκε στο Σαμί Όφερ στη Χάιφα με 4-0 με τους ισραηλινούς να προηγούνται με 1-0 στο ημίχρονο και να πετυχαίνουν άλλα τρία γκολ στο β’ μέρος.

Οι γηπεδούχοι προηγήθηκαν με αυτογκόλ του Πεμπέρν στο 38’ ενώ ο Μοχάμεντ στο 54’ και 62’ πέτυχε δύο τέρματα και το τελικό σκορ διαμόρφωσε στο 79’ Πιερό. Στο 60’ αποβλήθηκε με δεύτερη κίτρινη κάρτα ο Βουκασίν Γιοβάνοβιτς.

Apollon Limassol’s European journey for the 2022-23 season began from the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League. Our team was eliminated by Maccabi Haifa with a total score of 2-4 calculating one win and one loss.

Heavy defeat in Israel

Our team had a bad start to this season after suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat against Maccabi Haifa at Sami Ofer Stadium in the first leg of the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The home team came on the pitch stronger and with a great performance created a lot of problems for our team.

In the 38th minute, Peybernes with an own goal gave the lead to the Israeli team after an effort by Haziza from the left. In the 54th minute, Mohamed scored 2-0 with a powerful aerial volley, while the same footballer in the 62nd minute with a close header «wrote» the 3-0. In the meantime, Vukasin Jovanovic was sent off with a second yellow card in the 60th minute. In the 79th minute, Piero created the final score with a header.

Τη νίκη με 2-0 πήρε η ομάδα μας στον επαναληπτικό αγώνα με αντίπαλο τη Μακάμπι Χάιφα για τον 3ο προκριματικό γύρο του Champions League και με συνολικό σκορ 4-2 αποκλείστηκε από τη συνέχεια του θεσμού, ωστόσο συνεχίζει στη διοργάνωση του Europa League.

Τα γκολ για την ομάδα μας πέτυχαν οι Ογκέντα στο 19’ με πανέμορφο πλασέ εκτός περιοχής και Κολ με αριστερό δυνατό σουτ στο 27’.

Almost a miracle at GSP

Our team won 2-0 in the second leg match against Maccabi Haifa for the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League and with aggregate score 4-2 we were eliminated from the next round of the competition, however we continues in the Europa League.

The goals for our team were scored by Ongeda in the 19th minute with a beautiful placement outside the area and Coll with a powerful left shot in the 27th minute.

Αποκλεισμός στα πέναλτι

Τον οδυνηρό αποκλεισμό στη διαδικασία των πέναλτι γνώρισε η ομάδα μας στα Playoffs του UEFA Europa League από τον Ολυμπιακό Πειραιώς με τους δύο αγώνες να ολοκληρώνονται με το ίδιο σκορ, 1-1.

Στον αγώνα στην Κύπρο η ομάδα μας προηγήθηκε με ψύχραιμο πλασέ του Γιάνγκα στο 18ο λεπτό εκμεταλλευόμενος της κόντρας στον Σισέ μετά από σουτ του Κολ.

Elimination on penalties

The painful elimination in the penalty shootout was experienced by our team in the Playoffs of the UEFA Europa League by Olympiakos Piraeus with the two matches ending with the same score, 1-1.

In the match in Cyprus, our team took the lead with a cool placement by Janga in the 18th minute, taking advantage of the deflection on Cisse after a shot by Coll.

The «red and whites» equalized with newcomer Hwang who scored on his debut in the 29th minute with a spot-kick inside the area.

Στον επαναληπτικό η ομάδα μας ξεκίνησε με τον χειρότερο τρόπο τον αγώνα αφού από το 2ο λεπτό δέχθηκε το γκολ από τον Μασούρα. Παρά το άσχημο ξεκίνημα, η ομάδα μας προσπάθησε, πίεσε και κατάφερε να ισοφαρίσει το σκορ στο 90’ με προβολή από τη μικρή περιοχή.

Ο αγώνας οδηγήθηκε στην ημίωρη παράταση εκεί όπου ο αντίπαλος παρέμεινε με 10 ποδοσφαιριστές λόγω αποβολής του Μπα στο 100’.

Παρά την προσπάθεια των ποδοσφαιριστών μας, το σκορ δεν άλλαξε και αναπόφευκτα η πρόκριση κρίθηκε στην ψυχοφθόρα διαδικασία των πέναλτι. Αποδείχθηκε ότι οι γηπεδούχοι ήταν πιο εύστοχοι στα πέναλτι και πανηγύρισαν την πρόκριση στους ομίλους του UEFA Europa League και η ομάδα μας στους ομίλους του UEFA Europa Conference League.

In the second leg, our team started the match in the worst way possible since we conceded a goal from Masouras in the 2nd minute. Despite the bad start, our team tried, pressed and managed to equalize the score in the 90th minute after a Pittas effort.

The match went into the half-hour extra time where the opponent remained with 10 players due to Ba being sent off in the 100th minute. Despite the efforts of our footballers, the score did not change and inevitably the qualification was decided in the soul-draining penalty shoot-out. It turned out that the hosts were more accurate in the penalty shootouts and celebrated qualifying for the UEFA Europa League groups while our team for the UEFA Europa Conference League groups.

Ο Ε’ όμιλος του UEFA Europa Conference League

Η κλήρωση των ομίλων του UEFA Europa Conference League της 26ης Αυγούστου έφερε τον Απόλλωνα στον 5ο όμιλο της διοργάνωσης έχοντας ως αντίπαλους την ΑΖ Άλκμααρ, τη Βαντούζ και τη Ντνίπρο-1.

Στην πρεμιέρα των ομίλων η ομάδα μας αντιμετώπισε εκτός έδρας τη Βαντούζ του Λιχτενστάιν όπου εξήλθε ισόπαλη χωρίς τέρματα.

Στον άλλο αγώνα του ομίλου η Ολλανδική Άλκμααρ επικράτησε της Ουκρανικής Ντνίπρο-1 με 0-1.

Να σημειωθεί ότι η ομάδα μας μετά από σχετική διευθέτηση με την UEFA και με γνώμονα το καλύτερο δυνατό για το φίλαθλο κοινό, κατάφερε να οριστούν όλοι εντός έδρας αγώνες της ομάδας μας στις 19:45.

Group E of UEFA Europa Conference League

The draw for the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage on August 26 brought Apollon into Group E of the competition with AZ Alkmaar, Vaduz and Dnipro-1 as opponents.

In the premiere of the groups, our team faced Vaduz, in Liechtenstein, where it ended in a goalless draw.

In the other match of the group, the Dutch AZ Alkmaar beat the Ukrainian Dnipro-1 by 0-1.

It should be noted that our team, after a relevant arrangement with UEFA and with the best possible goal in mind for the fans, managed to designate all of our team’s home games at 19:45.

Η Κόσιτσε είναι η μεγαλύτερη πόλη στην ανατολική Σλοβακία. Βρίσκεται στον ποταμό Hornad στο ανατολικό άκρο των Σλοβακικών Ορέων, κοντά στα σύνορα με την Ουγγαρία. Με πληθυσμό περίπου 230.000 κατοίκους, η Κόσιτσε είναι η δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη πόλη στη Σλοβακία, μετά την πρωτεύουσα Μπρατισλάβα.

Μετά από μια περίοδο οικονομικής άνθησης και ευημερίας κατά τον 14ο και 15ο αιώνα, η πόλη αντιμετωπίζει τις πρώτες επιθέσεις των Οθωμανών στα μέσα του 16ου αιώνα. Τέλη του 17ου και αρχές του 18ου αιώνα γίνεται κέντρο της εξέγερσης εναντίον των Αψβούργων υπό την ηγεσία του Φραγκίσκου Ράκοζι. Τους επόμενους δύο αιώνες η πόλη γνωρίζει ιδιαίτερη πνευματική άνθιση καθώς πολλά μέλη της αριστοκρατίας εγκαθίστανται σ’ αυτή, δίνοντας έτσι ώθηση στις τέχνες, το θέατρο και την πολιτιστική κίνηση. Το 1918, μετά τη διάλυση της Αυστροουγγρικής Αυτοκρατορίας, το Κόσιτσε πέρασε υπό την εδαφική κυριαρχία της τότε νεοδημιουργηθείσας Τσεχοσλοβακίας. Το 1938 ξαναπέρασε στην ουγγρική κυριαρχία για να επιστρέψει εκ νέου το 1945 στην Τσεχοσλοβακία. Από από το 1993 μετά τη διάσπαση της Τσεχοσλοβακίας ανήκει πλέον στη Σλοβακική Δημοκρατία.

Όντας το οικονομικό και πολιτιστικό κέντρο της ανατολικής Σλοβακίας, η Κόσιτσε είναι η έδρα της Περιφέρειας Κόσιτσε και της Αυτοδιοικούμενης Περιφέρειας Κόσιτσε και φιλοξενεί το Σλοβακικό Συνταγματικό Δικαστήριο, τρία πανεπιστήμια, διάφορες επισκοπές και πολλά μουσεία, γκαλερί και θέατρα. Το 2013 η Kosice ήταν Πολιτιστική Πρωτεύουσα της Ευρώπης, μαζί με τη Μασσαλία

της Γαλλίας. Η Kosice είναι ένα σημαντικό βιομηχανικό κέντρο της Σλοβακίας, και το US Steel Kosice χαλυβουργείο είναι ο μεγαλύτερος εργοδότης στην πόλη. Εκτός από τον καθεδρικό υπάρχει το παρεκκλήσι του Αγ. Μιχαήλ, ο πύργος του Αγ. Ουρβανού και το νεο-μπαρόκ Κρατικό Θέατρο στο κέντρο της πόλης. Υπάρχουν άλλα μνημεία και κτίρια μεγάλης πολιτιστικού και ιστορικού ενδιαφέροντος όπως το παλιό Δημαρχείο, το Παλιό Πανεπιστήμιο, το Παλάτι του Καπετάνιου, η πλατεία της Απελευθέρωσης, καθώς και πολλές γκαλερί (η Ανατολή της Σλοβακίας) και μουσεία (το Ανατολικό Μουσείο της Σλοβακίας).

Limassol is the second largest city of Cyprus with a population of approximately 180,000. It is one of six districts and covers an area of 34.87 km2. Located on the southern coast, Limassol stretches around westward to the Paphos district, bordering with the district of Larnaca on the east and with Nicosia on the north. In addition to the recognized popularity as a tourism destination, Limassol is also an administrative and business centre, a port, a resort, the centre of the wine industry and home to many archeological sites.

The vivacious city centre, seems to offer a journey through time where the University with its bustling young students aiming for a brighter future is just a few streets away from the old market and ancient castle which link us to the past. Gracefully blending old with new continues, as across the seafront one can appreciate the cosmopolitan side of Limassol with its contemporary business structures and modern apartment buildings while only several kilometers away one can find charming areas with cobblestone streets, quaint buildings with overhanging terraces under which there are a profusion of small shops, restaurants and cafes.

The city of Limassol has a rich history that goes back to around the 2nd century B.C. The city is situated between the ancient cities of Amathous to the east and Kourion to the west. Limassol was inhabited since the very ancient years and tombs discovered there date back to around the 2nd century B.C., while oth-

ers date back to around the 8th and 4th centuries B.C. The few ancient finds that were discovered show that a small settlement existed there which did not manage to develop and flourish.

The city, in the 10th century, was known as Nemesos and the Byzantine emperor, Constantine Porphyrogenitus, refers to this city with this name. The history of the city is mainly known for its events in 1191 A.D., which marked the end of the Byzantine Rule in Cyprus. Limassol was then surrendered to the Frankish Empire of the Lusignan Kings of the medieval Cypriot kingdom. For about three centuries (1192-1489), Limassol experienced a remarkable period of prosperity. In 1489 A.D., the Queen of Cyprus, Ekaterini Cornaro, surrendered Cyprus to the city of Venice. This lasted until the Turkish Occupation took place in 1570 A.D. Then the British conquered Cyprus in 1878, while in 1960 significant changes followed the liberation of Cyprus, which contributed to the cultural and artistic life of the city. Schools, theatres, art galleries, music halls and football clubs were formed and played a significant role in the cultural life of Limassol.

The city of Limassol was developed much after the Turkish invasion of 1974. Luxurious hotels, restaurants and numerous entertainment clubs were built and thus the city soon became a significant touristic centre.

CYPRUS The pearl of the Mediterranean

Cyprus is located in the northeast of the Mediterranean, at the intersection point of Europe, Asia and Africa. From the dawn of history, Cyprus consists one of the most interesting places of the area, with a rich cultural history. Ancient Greeks and the period of the Byzantine Empire have left a strong heritage, that nowadays, any visitor can visit and admire.

Cyprus is bordering with Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Egypt. The north part of Cyprus has been occupied by Turkey since 1974. In 1983, after violating the Charter of the United Nations, Turkey proceeded into declaring the so-called «Turkish Democratic Republic of Northern Cyprus» that until today it is only recognised by Turkey. Cyprus is gifted with golden beaches, primeval forests and other wonderful natural landscapes. The environment of the island is now among the healthiest of the world, free of the pollution and other side-effects of the industrial counties. As far as criminality is concerned, it is almost non-existent.

Cyprus enjoys a wonderful Mediterranean climate. Apart from the rainfall period between November and March, Cyprus is constantly sunny. The average temperatures range from 8°C (42°F), during the coldest month, December, to 35°C (96°F) during the warmest month, which is August. However, weather is not the only attractive characteristic of the island. The people of Cyprus are equally famous, for the warm and friendly welcoming they provide to their visitors.

In May, 2004, Cyprus became officially a member of the European Union and in 2008 entered the Eurozone, thus connecting Europe and Middle East and the rest of the world.

Having been recognized as the ultimate business and financial centre in the wider area, the island has competitive advantages in sectors such as tourism, provision of consulting services, banking and insuring services, investments and construction business, shipping and telecommunications.

Στο Match Program μίλησε ο Bassel Jradi για τον αγώνα της 2ης αγωνιστικής των ομίλων του UEFA Europa Conference League με την Dnipro-1 ο οποίος χαρακτήρισε τον αγώνα πολύ σημαντικό για την πρόοδο του συλλόγου μας στην επόμενη φάση.

Πώς θα προσεγγίσετε το παιχνίδι μετά την ισοπαλία στο Λιχτενστάιν; Έχοντας ως στόχο την πρόκριση στην επόμενη φάση, το να κερδίσουμε είναι αυτοσκοπός. Ωστόσο κι αυτοί τον ίδιο στόχο έχουν, αλλά είμαι σίγουρος ότι είμαστε η καλύτερη ομάδα και πρέπει να το δείξουμε στον αγωνιστικό χώρο.

Πώς σας επηρεάζουν τα αποτελέσματα της Dnipro-1 απέναντι στην ΑΕΚ πριν από τρεις εβδομάδες;

Δεν έχει καμία σχέση εκείνος ο αγώνας με τον αποψινό. Αυτό το χρονικό διάστημα που μεσολάβησε έδωσε χρόνο και στις δύο ομάδες για να είναι πιο έτοιμες. Ούτε εμείς είμαστε όπως ήμασταν πριν από τρεις εβδομάδες.

Ποιες είναι οι διαφορές μεταξύ ευρωπαϊκών και εγχώριων αγώνων; Πως τους αντιμετωπίζετε εσείς οι ποδοσφαιριστές; Κάθε παίκτης ονειρεύεται να παίξει ευρωπαϊκά παιχνίδια γιατί είναι μια μεγάλη ευκαιρία για κάθε παίκτη στον κόσμο. Αλλά επειδή θέλουμε και στην επόμενη περίοδο να αγωνιζόμαστε στην Ευρώπη θα πρέπει να κερδίσουμε ξανά το πρωτάθλημα. What is the team’s approach for the upcoming gaming, following the draw in Liechtenstein?

Both teams are aiming for the win, but I am very confident that in the end we will take the 3 points and we will show our quality in the field.

Three weeks ago the game between Dnipro-1 and AEK Larnaca ended in draw. Does this have any effect on our team and our approach to the game? No this game means nothing to us. Three weeks have passed and lot have changed since then. Both teams are even more prepared now.

What are the differences between domestic and European games? What is the players target for both competitions?

Every player dreams to participate in a European competition. It is a great opportunity for any player in the world to compete in European games. But since we also target to win the league again, it is very important to be ready and fit to compete in both competitions and achieve our targets.

What should the fans expect from the team tonight?

As always, the players will give 100% effort.

Δεν έτυχε ποτέ στο παρελθόν ο Απόλλωνας να κληρωθεί με ομάδα από την Ουκρανία, ωστόσο υπήρξαν «Κυπροουκρανικές» μάχες με

πιο πρόσφατη αυτή του περασμένου Αυγούστου ανάμεσα στην ΑΕΚ και την αποψινή μας αντίπαλο Dnipro-1.

Η πρώτη φορά που κλήθηκε κυπριακή ομάδα να αντιμετωπίσει ουκρανική, ήταν το μακρινό 1973 όταν ο ΑΠΟΕΛ αποκλείστηκε σε διπλούς αγώνες από τη Ζάρια στο Κύπελλο Πρωταθλητριών με συνολικό σκορ 3-0.

Η επόμενη φορά όπου αναμετρήθηκαν ομάδες από τις δύο χώρες ήταν το 2010 όταν η Ομόνοια αποκλείστηκε από την Μέταλιστ στα playoffs του UEFA Europa League με συνολικό σκορ 3-2.

The history between Cyprus - Ukraine clubs

It’s the first time that Apollon will face a team from Ukraine. However, there have been «Cypriot-Ukrainian» battles with the most recent one being encounter between AEK and tonight’s opponent Dnipro-1, in August of 2022.

The first time that a Cypriot team was drawn to face a Ukrainian team was way back in 1973 when APOEL was eliminated in double matches by Zaria in the Champions Cup with an aggregate score of 3-0.

The next time teams from the two countries met was in 2010, when Omonia were eliminated by Metalist in the UEFA Europa League playoffs with a 3-2 aggregate score.

The very next season, APOEL and Shakhtar found themselves in the same group of UEFA Champions League with the match in Ukraine ending in a 1-1 draw and in the game at GSP won by Shakhtar with 0-2.

Lastly, the most recent time teams from the two countries met, was for the UEFA Europa League playoffs between AEK and Dnipro-1 with Larnaka’s club celebrating the qualification with two wins and an aggregate score of 5-1.

This season will hopefully be the last season where we host European games away from Limassol. Apollon stated as home groud GSP stadium, given that it is the most modern stadium in Cyprus.
