Machine Quilting Workshops with Paula Reid Friday, Saturday & Sunday, July 21, 22, & 23 Often described as an “artist with a sewing machine”, Paula Reid is a custom heirloom quilting specialist. Paula made her first quilt in April 1990, three weeks after attending the Glendale (California) Quilt Show with her best friend, Mary Ponce. Paula taught her first machine piecing class two years later, but found that her heart was captured by the quilting process. Machine quilting on her first Bernina machine was her very favorite way to spend time. In 1993, Paula opened her machine quilting business, utilizing the skills she had developed working on her own quilts. Since the day that she made her very first quilt, she has quilted over 1,400 quilts, all on her regular home machines. Of these, 50% have been queen size, 25% king size and the other 25% were various smaller sizes. The largest quilt she has ever “fluffed and stuffed” was 112” x 128”!

Paula Reid in her quilting studio!

Feathers & Rulers - A Double Play 10:00 – 4:00 Friday, July 21 A thorough exploration of feather stitching, utilizing both freehand techniques and the use of rulers (templates) to achieve this widely loved quilting design element that has stood the test of time. Different approaches mean more ways you can approach those curvy flourishes we all want on our quilts! Registration fee $120.

Ruler Play 3 – Quilting & Applique 10:00 – 4:00 Saturday, July 22 Another cool way to use rulers for quilting! With this technique, you will learn to use templates to accomplish reverse applique and quilting at the same time, making applique faster and easier to add to your quilts! Using techniques from Leonie West, the inventor of the Westalee templates, you will add the Templee Quilt Technique to your roster of skills you can do with your rulers! Registration fee $120. Page 2

“Fluff & Stuff” is what Paula calls her method for moving large quilts through a home machine. She began teaching workshops on her techniques in the southern California region in 1993, expanding to national teaching a few years later when appearances on “Simply Quilts” brought her to the attention of a larger audience. Now spending weeks at a time on the road, she has decided that nothing is more fun than sharing ideas with the quilters she meets on her travels.

Beyond the Basics – Design 10:00 – 4:00 Sunday, July 23 This class is definitely not for the beginning quilter, but for the student who is already comfortable with free motion techniques. This class is to help students learn to plan their own quilting patterns designed especially to enhance your quilt top. Please bring a wall hanging or lap size quilt top to class. A pieced pre-printed panel quilt top is perfect. With Paula’s assistance, you will plan your quilting design and begin to apply the quilting. This class concentrates on design, thread colors / weights, and background fills. Registration fee $120.

Sign up for ALL 3 Classes for ONLY $325, SAVE $35! Lunch will be provided each day.

After selling Prairie Pieces, Toni became a fabric sales rep for Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri. In 2007, she teamed with Jenny Foltz to form Wing and a Prayer Designs.
