Breeder Focus Dianne Waldron, Rosebrook Farm The mission of RoseBrook Farm, described by owner Dianne Waldron, is as follows: “In full commitment to the Arabian racehorse around the world, our mission here at RoseBrook Farm is to represent United States Arabian racing and breeding at the highest levels, while continuing to be innovative and challenged so that it serves both the horse and the community to the greatest good.” Dianne Waldron knows what a serious contender is and what it takes to turn a hobby into a successful endeavor with international impact.

Dianne Waldron (right) accepting one of her many Darley Award trophies from Arabian Racing Cup steward Michelle Morgan.

Nearly 40 years ago, a childhood love affair with Arabian horses blossomed and eventually took her places not even she could imagine. She was the first winning trainer of an Arabian race at a parimutuel race track in Florida. In addition, she was a threetime winner of the Florida 100 and serious competitor on the Eastern endurance circuit. Dianne had an innate gift for conditioning to turn out horses that could go the distance – whether that be a speedy six Dream Pearl+/ furlongs photo or the of a 100-mile endurance Pamelademands Burton ride. Dianne has won a place of recognition among the world’s elite.

Melody (Alanuud’s American name) started life as a slim bodied, fine-boned filly. Little did anyone know she would go on to break track records on two continents and be proclaimed “the finest Arabian racehorse to grace a track in our time.” Unchainedd Melody, and her older full sister Victorias Secrett, were just the beginning. The horses Dianne has subsequently bred and owned run in her farm’s name, RoseBrook Farm (located in Brooksville, Fla.). In the 1990’s, her horses took California by storm as homebreds took the prestigious Drinkers of the Wind Stake (G1) at Los Alamitos for an unbelievable five consecutive years. This race was a step in one of the most outstanding accomplishments for RoseBrook, as TH Richie went on to win the Diamond Derby and the Bob Magness Derby (G1) to capture the U.S. Arabian Triple Crown. He is the only horse in history with this achievement. To this day, TH Richie, now a member of the Racing Hall of Fame, is one of Waldron’s favorite horses and one of which she is most proud.

Outstanding breeding combined with successful conditioning and training methods habitually place RoseBrook horses in the top ranks at the Darley Awards each year. Over the years, RoseBrook has earned over 50 Darley Nominations and a total of 20 Darley Champion awards. Dianne was also the recipient of the first Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Darley award for Outstanding Breeder. Currently four exceptional stallions stand at RoseBrook Farm: Baseq Al Khalediah, Rathowan, Sand Blastt and RB Nash – new for 2020. Breeder Focus The Royal Cavalry of Oman The Sultanate of Oman is becoming a powerhouse in Arabian horse racing thanks to the wisdom of the Ruler, His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said. It was he who introduced the vision to establish the Royal Cavalry in 1970, which would help to preserve traditional horse and equestrian activities in the Sultanate, an integral part of the Omani culture. With a beginning of 20 horses spread over a few stables in Wattaya, the Royal Cavalry has steadily grown to 50 or more, requiring a move in 1995 to the current headquarters in Al-Adiyat, Seeb, a seaside community north of Muscat. The Al Adiyat facility has a racetrack and show grounds and in 2019 was the headquarters for a Grand Performance horse show, riding demonstrations and races, which were attended by Queen Elizabeth accompanied by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, members of the Omani Royal Family, and other dignitaries (pictured below).

In 2004, Brigadier General Abdulrazak AlShahwarzi was appointed Commander of the Royal Cavalry and Director-General of the Royal Horse Racing Club and is credited with further developing the racing programs and promoting the involvement of horses into the Omani way of life. Physical additions to the program have included the expansion of the infrastructure and stables and building multiple race tracks. The Director of Racing is Salim Al Hakmani. A former jockey in the early days of racing, Al Hakmani accompanied Omani runners to their first races in France and England as the Omani’s found the value of European exposure and experience. The Royal Cavalry of Oman began racing Arabians in 2006. One of the first ex-pat trainers to work for the Royal Cavalry was the talented Julian Smart, who came to Oman from Abu Dhabi in 2006 where he was training for HH Sheikh Zayed, President of the UAE. Smart left Oman in 2009 and is now training for Al Shahania in Qatar.
