SUCCESS IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION

e often hear mention of ‘success’ and we, too, on the Arabian Horse Magazine Team, when talking with people who share the same passion for the Arabian Horse, sometimes we use this word. So, we thought it was important to reflect on what actually ‘success’ means, trying to define it. Well, first of all, we argue that success is NOT the achievement of a stereotyped and defined goal by others who advise us on what is best for us. There is one thing that is hardly ever taken into account and which, nevertheless, is the basis of all possible definitions of success: HAVE A SENSE OF PURPOSE IN YOUR LIFE. When we have a purpose, a goal, an ideal, something that we look forward to when we get up in the morning, everything else comes after. Of course, each of us has their own purpose, their own goal! If you try to read the biographies and interviews with key members of the Purebred Arabian breeding industry, be they farmers, judges, handlers and trainers, or to talk to personalities who are believed to be successful in the business, you will

discover that they all have, or have had, a clear-cut goal in life: the Purebred Arabian and the preservation over time of this wonderful creature. As for us on the Arabian Horse Magazine Team, more precisely, SUCCESS IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION ... A journey we embarked on with all our readers back in 2004 and that led us, to this day, to be among the best magazines on the Purebred Arabian breeding industry in the world, and to have strong partnerships on three continents with those who are considered the most prestigious Arabian Horse breeding farms existing nowadays. Many are the articles, essays, interviews and advertising pages you will find in this 2017 Dubai edition that are tangible evidence of what we stated earlier. In all of them, we put all our efforts, hours of hard work and personal sacrifice that are necessarily part of our ‘journey’, but that only have allowed us to get to current levels and that will enable us, in the coming years, to provide our affectionate readers always with the best of everything ‘that is newsworthy’ in this magical world of the Purebred Arabian.

ince its inception in 2007, Dubai Arabian Horse Stud fast became one of the world’s most successful Straight Egyptian and Pure Bred horse farms. Dubai Arabian Horse Stud has left their mark on International Arabian horse shows, producing Champion after Champion and gaining respect from around the world, as leaders in the industry. Managed, by Mohammed Al Tawheedi and Abdelaziz Al Marzooqi, they acquired top quality horses that have enhanced Dubai Stud, both in the

show arena and their breeding programs. Creating good relationships with many breeders and studs around the world, with their support, Dubai Stud is making important contributions to the growth of breeding worldwide. In few years Dubai Arabian Horse Stud has collected many important International Awards such as: the European Championship, All Nations Cup in Aachen, Menton and several shows in Europe, mastering a prestigious achievement- in only two years - in

the World Championship in Paris 2009, with the stunning bay stallion Royal Colours. The accurate research, great planning, passion and commitment of Mohammed Al Tawheedi and Abdelaziz Al Marzooqi have allowed Dubai Arabian Horse Stud to take a very important step forward by introducing in their breeding program the technique of Embryo Transfer. This innovation has made it possible for Dubai Stud to try up all their wonderful mares faster, thereby accelerating their breeding process. This way they have managed to produce a wide array of Champion horses raised and bred by them.

In the last few years, in particular, their discovery of the American born stallion FA El Rasheem (Fa El Shawan x Virtuosa by Versace) has proved to be a fundamental crossing with their mares producing many Champions in shows, among which the World Champion Yearling Colt 2016 D Seraj (Fa El Rasheem x Ladi Veronica). n 24th January 2017, we were honored to be invited by Mr. Khalid Al Sayed to his beautiful farm. The great hospitality and warm welcome made us enjoy some wonderful days in Saudi Arabia that we will never forget. On a very nice and sunny day, we joined a tasteful dinner at his farm with many great people from all over the world such as: Belgium, Poland, Italy, Switzerland, America and Uruguay. Later on, Mr. Khalid showed us his very special mushroom production, and it was very interesting to see all the procedure. Before having the pleasure to get to know some of his horses, we could drink some Arabic coffee, Arabic tea and eat some sweets in front of a very modern fire station that impressed us a lot. Later on in the afternoon, we could admire some of the jewels of Al Sayed Stud, like the breath-taking RD Lorella (Bey Ambition * San Jose Javiera), a bay mare with a lot of attitude and blow, or the wonderful and very feminine Justina Al Sayed (WH Justice * CC Jameela). We also enjoyed seeing the very first foal by the amazing and outstanding Alexxanderr, a very handsome colt out of WA Priscilla, and her lines are going back to Psyches Cameo. For a few hours, we could also see an old Eden Câ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s filly that we liked very much; her mother is one of the very few Koronec daughters Jawharat Al Sahraa, which is very well known all over the globe. But the very highlight on that day it was that, at the end of the presentation, when we were enjoying a walk through the stables, a beautiful chestnut had born in front of us by Ajman Moniscione. That was a truly special day! Thank you very much to Mr. Khalid Al Sayed and the whole team of Al Sayed Stud for that precious day.

and coffee. When everyone had arrived there, we got a very nice tour on the farm led by the General and owner of Al Muawd, Mohammed A. Alsubaie himself and Rod Jones who is managing, together with his bother Ryan Jones, Al Muawd. It is a very well built facility

All the horses go out during the day, also there are some green pastures and paddocks for the horses, a horse walker and a swimming pool for the horses. Later on we got to see also the laboratory where they freeze semen and inseminate the mares. It is organized very well and the horses safety comes first. After that wonderful tour on the farm we got to see some jewels from Al Muwad. The first was the beautiful gray mare Vision of Justice (WH Justice * Exquisite Dream); she is just 16 years old and has had a very pretty chestnut filly by foot out of RFI Farid. The next mare who did present herself to us was Amirat Al Janadreah (Psytadel * Great HPM) with a very fancy bay filly out of Emerald J.

Another very nice mare got a home at Al Muwad; she is Nejood Al Rabea and her very nice colt by Magic One. A hidden treasure was for sure the dark chestnut mare Maysaa Al Khaledia. Her

father is the world champion Marquis Cahr and her mother nobody else then the too early died Hazy Al Khalediah, herself many times champion. Maysaa Al Khalediah had an absolutely stunning colt by her side out of the amazing Emerald J. He was really a highlight of the day.

was ES Mahbuba. She is by Ajman Moniscione and her mother is AB Magnumâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s daughter. This young mare is already a champion producer, her son General Al Muwad has just won the Gold Champion title at the Prince Sultan Arabian Horse Festival. The last beauty we got to be presented on that today was Espinilla (Al Maraam * Espadrilla). She showed up wonderfully with her classic beauty and a lot of attitude. It was a wonderful experience and we enjoyed this private atmosphere and come together at Al Muwad.

n 28th January 2017 we had the honour to be invited at the Open Day of Milad Equine Centre in Saudi Arabia. When we got there, the main entry was wonderful illuminated, there played some very nice local music and were tents to sit inside and talk before the presentation started. It was also possible to visit the stables to see all the beautiful horses which are living in Milad Equine Centre. Milad is the first professional Training Centre in Saudi Arabia for Arabian horses and close by there is also the whole facility for the reproduction.

The presentation started with a highlight for me. Every time I see this very special horse I get goose bumps: the very special and wonderful Eden C. It was such a joy to see him, he looked very handsome as ever. His father is the legendary Enzo out of the very special mare Silken Sable owned by Al Sayed Stud in Saudi Arabia. After him, we saw some of his progenies staying in Milad, such as the very pretty Athary Al Sayed out of the special Gazal Al Shaqab daughter Windawa, also her owned by Al Sayed Stud. Magic of Shawan Irresistible by Marwan Al Shaqab, also belonging to Al Sayed Stud. Alexxanderr turned into a wonderful white stallion with a very beautiful face, well set neck and well built body. He just started his breeding career and what we got to see made us speechless. The first filly out of him did blow us away; she was born with a very exotic face, big dark eyes, and very pretty ears and for such a young foal of her age, a

We got to see also a son by him, Mashoor Al Mohmmadia out of the World Champion mare Abha Palma. He is a young stallion that has been in Brazil for a while and turned back to Saudi to breed.

his Festival is a celebration of the Arabian Horse and has been put into operation to uphold and develop the equestrian disciplines in which this extraordinary animal competes. This quality and horse lover ‘paradise’ is held under the patronage of His Royal Highness, Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Bin AbdulAziz Al Saud. When you speak about Prince Sultan, you speak about an irreplaceable Chevalier. He is a strong and unique personality. He is a myth, he is indeed the real Arabian myth. He is not only Sultan Alkahir (Sultan of Charity); Prince Khaled is also an unparalleled political leader, Sultan of generosity for the entire humankind and his beloved nation. His stud farm is one of the best equipped in the whole of the Gulf area. Stretching over more than 400 hectares, the center has a fully equipped internal equine clinic in which the experienced and well trained staff has obtained a considerable number of medical successes, ranging from reproduction to embryo management methods. This state-of-the-art hospital with highly

specialized staff is available also to breeders. Prince Khaled’s boundless passion for the Arabian horse, which has ‘contaminated’ the entire Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, made it possible for such an international event to be held also this year, opening its doors last January in the headquarters of His Highness’s farms in Tebrak city, west of Riyadh. Prince Khaled’s main goal is to buttress the Arabian horse with increasingly more dynamism and turn this into one of the most popular rendezvous throughout the show season. The Festival managed to capture the interest of all the experts and specialists of the breeding industry, who all gathered to witness a very well-organized show with a significant attendance of spectators. As many as 19 countries took part with 450 horses entered in the Festival events. There came a lofty number of guests from all over the world, who flocked there thanks to the bigheartedness of Prince Khaled who spared no expenses in making this competition etched in everybody’s mind and very successful. The response from breeders was

superlative, including many horsewomen, who had to make some minor changes but most of them appreciated the invitation and realized that Saudi Arabia is beyond doubt a magic land that is unquestionably worth discovering. obin Sharma once said that as children, we have gifts within us that could produce artistry, talents inside us that would reveal mastery and potential that just might astound humanity. I believe that a small, select group of horses are born with these “powers” too. They have used these powers to make history, transcend the records made by their forefathers and write their names in the book of legends. The living legend, Gazal Al Shaqab, is one of these horses; known to many as the stallion that just like Bask, singlehandedly changed the face of the breed. This is his story, a celebration of his 21 years of life, a reflection through the eyes of this Robin Sharma quote. Gifts within us that could produce artistry... To appreciate Gazal Al Shaqab’s undeniably beautiful exterior, that when looked at either from afar or up close, sends chills down one’s spine and gives us the feeling that we are witnessing living art, we need to go back in time to 1994. It was in February of that year that Al Shaqab Stud purchased Kajora from the Gucci dispersal. However, before the purchase was made, it was renowned horseman and breeder Michael Byatt who decided to unite the genetic strengths of Anaza El Farid with Kajora; who on May 15, 1995 gave the world a priceless gift – Gazal Al Shaqab. Anaza El Farid was a straight Egyptian stallion and Egyptian Event Winner that gave Gazal Al Shaqab one of the greatest gifts a father could ever give a son in this industry – a sire line to the celebrated stallion and extraordinary producer Nazeer. which three were Reserves). His first appearance in the U.S. was at the 1997 U.S. Egyptian Event where he was named Champion Colt and Reserve Supreme Champion Male. His crowning moment was at the 2001 World Championships; not only was Gazal Al Shaqab adorned with the World Champion Stallion roses, but his son, Marwan Al Shaqab was named World Champion Colt. In 2005 Gazal Al Shaqab took on the U.S., with Michael Byatt perfectly showing him to Reserve Champion Stallion at the U.S. National and Scottsdale Shows. Gazal Al Shaqabâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s last European show appearance was at Menton in 2016. Although he was not competing, he was brought to be celebrated, acknowledged and respected. I was fortunate enough to be there and I will never forget it. I saw the above mentioned moment in the flesh and it took my breath away. With Giacomo Capacci at his side

and his famous red, beaded Arabian halter on, Gazal Al Shaqab pranced into the arena. The light rainfall did not deter him in any way; he held his head up proudly and looked attentively at the hoards of people wanting to catch a glimpse of him. With his tail raised, he made his way around the arena. The crowd was on their feet, everyone was poking their heads around looking for a clear pathway to see Gazal Al Shaqab. All smartphones and cameras were out and the applause seemed neverending that even the announcer could barely be heard. Gazal Al Shaqab did not have to do much to captivate me, I had my eyes on him as soon as he entered. His proud demeanour commanded respect and attention and his talent was on full display â&#x20AC;&#x201C; he had clearly mastered it. Potential that just might astound humanity... For any horse, a show record holds a small percentage of their credibility and is no guarantee that they will

Michalow also had some chart toppers at the auction, but it is their Bronze All Nations Cup Champion Pistoria (x Palmira) that holds the record as the highest selling Gazal Al Shaqab daughter to date; she sold for €625 000 to Al Zobair Stud. Good morning Giuseppe! First of all thank you very much for agreeing to be interviewed by our Magazine. Let’s start from the very beginning. How did this passion you have for the Purebred Arabian horse begin? I have been living with horses since I was born; my father and my uncles have always owned several horses, but, for me, the real horse, was just one: the Arabian stallion! To what extent has this love you have acquired for the Arabian horse influenced your life? This love has influenced my life immediately. Straight after I started to attend the most important fairs that were held in Italy. When travelling, I was interested in horses in general, but once I got to the fair I did not use to spend hours but the whole day admiring the Arabian horse as I got literally ravished by his elegant style. Is your involvement with Arabian horses a hobby or mainly a business for you? No...To me it is neither a hobby nor a business, it is a passion, it is all my life...

What does the word ‘training/handling mean to you? As the word says by itself, it is a period of preparation that in my opinion is crucial. The horse learns how to read your body language and then respond to it accordingly. As far as I am concerned, it is the time when I try to isolate myself and establish an emotional relationship with the horse. What feelings do you receive by training/handling Arabian horses? The Arabian horse is ‘unique’. His movements, his big eyes, the way he looks at you, his intelligence...All these things make you feel sensations that only those who love horses, in particular, the Arabian horse can only understand. Is there any particular symbiosis between a handler and his/her horse? I believe that any handler that does this job with passion tries to find a symbiosis with his horse: glances, caresses, words, etc.

Quando partivo ero interessato ai cavalli in generale, però una volta arrivato in fiera spendevo no ore ...ma giornate intere ad ammirare il cavallo arabo da show, rapito dal suo stile elegante. Il tuo coinvolgimento con i cavalli arabi è più un hobby o principalmente un business? No, per me non è né un hobby né un business. E’ passione, è

la mia vita … Che cosa significa la parola ‘training/ handling’ per te? Come dice la parola stessa è un periodo di preparazione per me molto importante, durante il quale insegni al cavallo a leggere il linguaggio del tuo corpo... al quale devono seguire determinate risposte. Per me è il momento in cui cerco di isolarmi ed instaurare un vero rapporto di feeling con il cavallo. Quali emozioni, sensazioni …provi nell’addestrare e presentare cavalli arabi? Il cavallo arabo è “unico”. I suoi movimenti, i suoi grandi occhi, il suo modo di guardare, la sua intelligenza ti fanno provare sensazioni che solo chi ama i cavalli ed in particolare i cavalli arabi può capire. In your opinion, what are the qualities needed to become a good trainer/handler? You have to have a lot of passion, do not rush, be prepared and ready to make many sacrifices, but, above, stay humble... Out of all horses you have been entrusted to, which is the one you had to bear a greater commitment with? I always try to do my best with any kind of horse, trying to do the sort of job that suits him best! However, there is one horse that always places great demands on me as it is a horse I cherish very much! His name is EKS ALJHANDRO... Would you tell us how your ideal type of Arabian horse should look like? And which features he should have? The Arabian horse must be the Arabian horse, a well balanced, type y and correct horse as a whole... That is in stark contrast to what has happened in recent years insofar as we have mainly focused on producing subjects with just beautiful heads and have neglected the rest!

Cerco sempre di fare del mio meglio con ogni tipo di cavallo, cercando di fare il tipo di lavoro che più si adatta a lui! ma c’è un cavallo che ogni volta mi fa impegnare veramente perché è un cavallo che ho molto a cuore! EKS ALJHANDRO Giuseppe, potresti dirci come dovrebbe essere il tuo tipo ideale di cavallo arabo? Quali caratteristiche morfologiche dovrebbe necessariamente avere? Il cavallo arabo deve essere il cavallo arabo, cavallo corretto, armonioso e tipico in ogni sua parte non come è successo negli ultimi anni dove ci siamo concentrati a produrre soggetti con belle teste dimenticandoci del resto! Che cosa ti ha effettivamente spinto a partecipare ai concorsi di morfologia? Un cavallo arabo da morfologia non ti fa staccare gli occhi di dosso: movimento, coda bandiera, espressione, soffi, “tutte cose che ti mettono di buon umore”…Vero? Ti ricordi il tuo primo show? Si, non lo posso dimenticare: anno 2011 Taormina “Giardini Naxox”, ho presentato un puledro egiziano di un anno sotto una tempesta d’acqua.

What got you into morphology competitions? The Arabian horse for morphology purposes does not simply allow you to take your eyes off him: his movement, high flagged tail, his expression and breath...These are ‘all things that put you in a good mood’...Aren’t they? Do you remember your first show? Yes, I cannot forget it: Year 2011 in Taormina at “Naxox Gardens”...There I presented a one year old Egyptian foal under a rain storm... Do you miss past times contests or do you prefer the atmosphere of today’s festivals? I prefer the quality of today’s horses but there ought to be an atmosphere of past years! Is there any victory you feel particular close to? Yes, actually more than one...When together with EKS ALJHANDRO presented by Giacomo Capacci in 2013 it also began a series of stunning victories, until his victory at the World Championship. 170

Ti mancano i concorsi dei tempi passati o preferisci l’atmosfera degli show di oggi? Preferisco la qualità di adesso, ma con l’atmosfera degli anni passati. C’è una qualche vittoria a cui ti senti particolarmente legato? Si, anzi più di una, quando insieme a EKS ALJHANDRO presentato da Giacomo Capacci nel 2013 iniziava tutta una serie di straordinarie vittorie, fino alla sua vittoria al Campionato del Mondo. Oggi, vincono davvero i cavalli più dotati in termini di standard e caratteristiche morfologiche? La qualità si è alzata in maniera esponenziale, tanto che secondo me a volte si fa veramente difficoltà a scegliere un soggetto piuttosto che un altro. Noti delle differenze sostanziali tra i cavalli arabi di oggi e quelli del passato? Assolutamente si, oggi si ha un tipo di arabo più raffinato, armonioso, più sgambato, più moderno.

Do the most deserving horses in terms of today’s standards really win? The quality has risen exponentially lately, so much that I think sometimes it really makes it hard to choose one subject rather than another. What are the differences you notice between the Arabian horses of today and those in the past? Surely now you have a kind of more refined, harmonious Arabian horse with high-cut legs and more modern. The Arabian horse market has become increasingly difficult. What do you think it should be said with reference to this? More than difficult I think it has changed a bit. I do believe that a substantial change in the market has occurred with the advent of social media. How important are the fairs of Arabian horses? In my opinion they are very important. It is a tool that gives everybody the opportunity to get to know the uniqueness of the Arabian horse with the chance of welcoming new Arabian horses lovers.

Secondo me un cambiamento sostanziale del mercato è avvenuto con l’avvento dei social- media. Quale importanza rivestono le fiere di cavalli di razza araba? Sono a mio parere importantissime, sono uno strumento che dà la possibilità di far conoscere l’unicità del cavallo arabo con la possibilità di nuovi futuri appassionati. he Arabian horse has long showed some particularism over three decades thanks to a man with a creative genius who had found a balance with creativity that is the basis for success. Among many creators of equestrian events of all categories that have become the major ones to date, few people know the path of William Richardot de Choisey, a man of character coming from a family that has long lived outside the hexagon. Brought up and trained under the strict discipline of military environment and institutions, he could gain a sense for the well-done and sorted things in everyday’s life, forging a firm but moderate character by practicing riding in various disciplines over the years. As soon as he left college, he built a necessary base of

Then he turned to the cross-country racetracks sector reserved for amateur riders, one of the most learning experiences in the good condition and well-being of the horses. Additional horses with good sportsmanship were in his corral which he would after gather at ‘Cernay Studfarm’ that he had established in the Yvelines; the beautiful gray mare Venise N got formidable results as well as Topaze d’Espiens who came from the breeding farm of Abel Souèges in the Gers. small Emirate nestled between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, Kuwait is situated in a section of one of the driest, least-hospitable deserts on earth. Its shore, however, includes Kuwait Bay, a deep harbor on the Persian Gulf. There, in the 18th century, Bedouin from the interior founded a trading post—the name “Kuwait” is derived from the Arabic diminutive of the Hindustani kūt (“fort”). Since the emirate’s ruling family, the Āl Ṣabāḥ, formally established a sheikhdom in 1756, the country’s fortunes have been linked to foreign commerce. In time and with accumulated wealth, the small fort grew to become Kuwait city, a modern metropolis mingling skyscrapers, apartment buildings, and mosques. Kuwait city has most of the country’s population, which makes Kuwait one of the world’s most urbanized countries.

Massive oil revenues have enabled the government to support sports generously, and the country boasts a number of stadiums capable of hosting international competitions. Kuwait’s sports culture, like that of other gulf states, combines the traditional sports of nomadic Arabian society with contemporary sports of Western origin. Traditional sports of enduring popularity include camel and horse racing; Arabian horses are held to be among the finest in the world. On the beautiful grounds of the Arabian Horse Center Bait Al Arab, Kuwait State Stud, the 6th Annual International Arabian Horse Championship took place from Friday 3th to 4th February 2017 under the patronage of H.H Emir of Kuwait Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber alSabah. The show attracted thousands of owners, breeders of the Arabian

horse, but also guests and tourists from Europe to see 238 horses of the finest purebred Arabian breed competing for various prizes and recognition. This gave the finishing touches to a really well organized and time-managed show. As many as eight judges were called to manage a competition that appeared compelling just by reading the program. The many prestigious names in the ring made us predict a fierce competition for the top places, and that is exactly what happened. Therefore, it is only fair to praise the judges who carried out their task impeccably. They were, in order: Mr. Jerzy Bialobok (Poland); Mr. Koenraad Detailleur (Belgium); Mrs. Sylvie Eberhardt (Germany); Mrs. Deirdre Hyde (United Kingdom); Mr. Pekka Paakkonen (Sweden); Mr. Marco Pittaluga (Italy); Mrs. Anna Stefaniuk (Poland); and Mr.

They were delighted by the overall quality of the horses they witnessed during the two days of this event, and avowed they had enjoyed judging and working with the organizing team of the show and expressed their respect for the Arabian horse breeders and owners in Kuwait for their enthusiasm and passion. The Disciplinary Committee made every effort which rendered this event a great

Visitors from the USA, Italy, France, Poland, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia attended the show, enjoyed Kuwait hospitality and watched a remarkable event. Eventually, everybody offered their compliments on the success of the 6th International Arabian Horse Championship of Kuwait 2017. A success which was only made possible by the excellent cooperation of the breeders and horse owners who entered their valuable Arabians for the show, and with the generous support of H.H. the Emir of Kuwait, Sabah al-

ashery Smithers was born with an endless passion for Arabian horses. But, she really set off for the Black Egyptian Arabian when she was a little girl as she would ride with Walter Farley, the American author of the ‘Black Stallion” and she would read his stories over and over again; when they decided to make his book into a movie, they allowed her to be on filming crew to watch and be around those magnificent stallions. That experience just touched her heart ever more. When Walter Farley passed away in 1989, this torn into her heart as he was really a great horseman and a great rider and, right there, Tashery is today owning her own beautiful black stallions at Midnight Sunshine Arabians that she founded in 1990, located on 19 acres in Alabama at the Historical Landmark Kenworthy Hall built in 1860 by the famous Richard Upjohn who was a British-born American architect. This cordial Florida native lady has been breeding the 214

Exotic Black Straight Egyptian Arabians now since the 90s. The uniqueness of this breed and the history of this magnificent creature that God has given to humankind are just something amazing for Tashery. In her opinion, the Straight Egyptian Arabian and all Arabians have some sort of human like personality. When taking care of them correctly, she argues, they bond with their owners and will actually protect them if needed unlike any other breed she has ever known… Arabian horses are indeed her family or, if one can say, she has become part of their herd! As they truly bring peace into her life. She had had 27 horses but has downsized or leased out several to smaller breeders to help them get started. Tashery’s main concern is, first and foremost, the health of her horses and learning about each one, checking out their features and personalities so that they can fit with the right stallion. She says:”Every breeder should understand

foals. Tashery has always tried to do her best to keep the standard of her Arabians as pure as possible. Too many, she argues, get blind to what they have

the conformation that is needed to keep the standard from vanishing since him/her, as a breeder, shall always

be eager to learn more and strive for perfection. One of the most important mares standing at Midnight Sunshine Arabians is by all means Miss Zebra ( Nakhda Zanj El Bar by Al Baraki x Nakhda Kulluha Nar by Thee Desperado). She is a sweet mare with a great attitude and Tashery has recently bred her to Al Nadeem who is the great grandson of Simeon Sadik (AU), so she thinks this will be a great foal she will have in 2017. On the other hand, her current senior Stallion is Nakhda Zanj El Bar (Al Baraki x Eternal Grace) which has really produced some beautiful 216

now, and forget to look at what they could have in the future whereas all should try to think outside the box once in a while, and study their horses really well.. On December 25th, 2014 Tashery’s Egyptian friends arranged for her to go to Zahraa and get her farm name, i.e. ‘Tashery Stud’. She already had there

her black mare Zangy Soroya (Nakhda Zanj El Bar X Midnight Sunshine) that she brought over from America and bred to Rabab Stud’s GR Mareef. This mare has since had two beautiful black colts by him: Horus, co-owned with Osama Mohamed Afifi, and her new colt Ibn Mareef, all standing at the farm of

Vet Dr. Kamal Mohamed Derbala. Tashery will soon have more horses in Egypt than she does in Alabama where she can now rely on her precious collaborator and project manager Carolyn Al-Khawaldeh for anything to do with the managerial aspects of the farm. The Egyptians have been so kind to Tashery Smithers, especially Captain Mahmoud at Zahraa

The Arabian Breeders World Cup has taken place in Las Vegas since 2007 and it is now planning for another blowout celebration. bu Dhabi, the sophisticated and modern capital of the U.A.E. presents a fascinating mixture of tradition and progress. With a history rich in tradition dating back to around 3000 BC, Abu Dhabi maintains a more distinctly Arabian ambiance than glitzy Dubai. The strong dominant white color of its territory, sunny blue skies, traditional landscape offer a glimpse into the Bedouin life along with the Women’s Craft Centre, the particular design inspired by the Arabian heritage and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. Last February, in the charming capital city was held the Abu Dhabi ‘INTERNATIONAL ARABIAN HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP’, one of the most prestigious morphology competitions in the world. The Horse fair is the largest equestrian exhibition in the region and caters to everyone in the equestrian world from trade to consumers. The Show was governed by the EAHS

Rules and Regulations established by the Emirates Arabian Horse Society that for the technical part could rely on the capabilities of Show manager Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Al Harbi. It started on Saturday 11th with the Yearling Fillies Championship and terminated on Wednesday 15th with the Stallions Championship. About 367 horses were registered in the Stud Book. Over five magic days, everybody could admire and praise the legendary grace, beauty and power of genuine Purebred Arabian horses. The Higher Organizing Committee was ably composed by: Mr. Adnan Sultan Al Nuaimi, Mr.Essam Abdalia Al Hameerie and Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Al Harbi. While the lovely music could be only that played by Mr. Ali Yaeesh. But let us now go back to the core of the competition. The categories were really ‘crowded’ apart from being beautiful from a technical point of view, so that most of them had to be split up into two sections. The results of the preliminary categories can be seen on the website of the Emirates Arabian Society, www.eahs.org, featuring also the scores given by the various judges. Only the top two winners of each categories were able to compete in the final championship and fight for the three sought after medals. The Final Championship experienced moments of strong emotions, given the exceptional

quality of the horses that came this far. Written by Sonja Smaldone Hello Cedes! Thank you very much for accepting our interview. Let’s start from the very beginning. When did you start taking an interest in the Arabian horse breed? When I was 10 years old. I started riding as a 6 years old kid and got my first pony at 8 years and that was a half Arabian. After that, my parents became interested in Purebreds and set up a farm. To what extent has this love you have acquired for the Arabian horse influenced your life? A lot. Horses are a huge part of my life, all breeds; and also my two daughters are riding now! Who was the first Arabian horse you laid your eyes on? I think it was World Champion Abdullahhh.

At what age did you become a judge? How did all start? It was ten years ago. I was 34 years old; after my riding career, international jumping with ponies and riding warm bloods on a high level, I had to sell my tournament horses because of lack of time. Then I decided to take the State examination to become a judge of all breeds. After succeeding in this course I attended the E.c.a.h.o. course, and finally I ended up as an A-judge. What actually got you in ‘morphology’ competitions? With my riding background you find out in ‘practice’ what are good Parts of the body to be a good and functional riding horse. What qualities and specific skills are needed to become a competent mindful judge?

A quick and good eye to see the small details and to project that into marks and ranking. What are the most relevant things when judging a horse and which factors do affect your judgment in practice? An Arabian horse should be an Arabian horse, that means: you have to recognize this breed from 100 miles away because of the look like the coat, tail carriage, trot, type and attitude of course. So, do the most deserving horses in terms of today’s standards really win? In my judging yes, but there can be different tastes between judges though the basics should be equal to any judge. If you could change anything in the current system of judgment, what would it be? There should always be an open championship because there can be several influences to change the ranking, like a day off from the horses or if you did not judge the class because of the rotation system. To what extent do you think your specific knowledge and professional experience as a Dutch native judge may, in some ways, distinguish you from other judges who have different professional and breeding skills?

The riding background on a high level for sure! To me every judge ought to have this background. It gives you a basic knowledge out of a practical background. What are your favorite bloodlines? I prefer a typey, well built and moving horse, regardless of the bloodline, but there is a preference for certain bloodlines such as: Padron’s and his offspring and Ali Jamaal’s lines… What has been your biggest success so far? To be part of judging teams in Menton, Las Vegas, Brazil, Chantilly, Paris and Aachen. But I also like to support small shows because it is hard for them to get the best judges. Which Show has been the most crucial one to you? The Wels show in Austria because Ferdinand Huemer believed in me when I was a probationer, and, later on, he invited me 251

many times; and, also Anne Heiloo who took over the organization. It is a very friendly and great show with a great exhibition where everything has to do something with horses.

That’s a difficult question… What I like from the past is that everybody was able to show horses whether you had money or not. Nowadays it’s very expensive to compete on the big shows as a small breeder, that’s because of the costs and high quality! What are the positive and negative aspects of being a Judge? (Travel, time 252

The Arabian horse market has become increasingly difficult. What do you think it should be said with reference to this? It is almost impossible to enter as a small breeder the big shows. My biggest fear is that we are going the wrong direction with conformation problems and looking only for beautiful heads. What advice would you give to those who want to embark on this adventure of becoming a Judge? Make sure that you have a solid base of knowledge of all breeds. They are all horses; the difference is the specific

marks of the breed you judge, but, every horse should have a good body, legs and movement. Can you tell us the funniest episode has ever happened to you over the last few years? To miss the flight together with Robby Den Hartog in Kuwait, simply because we did not look at the ticket and both had a wrong departing time in our head. It was an expensive mistake!!!

What are your plans for the future? To be a good judge as long as I can in the future and that the best overall horses always should win. ne of the most beautiful mares on the European circuit the past couple of years – and surely one of the most underrated – is Fahera. Bred in Italy, this ethereal nine-year-old grey has that wonderful quality that makes you stop and look whenever she enters the show-ring. In Paris 2016, Fahera just missed out on a World Championship title, and it is surely just as matter of time before she receives this richly-deserved award. Bred in Italy by Vito Lo Giudice, Fahera is now owned by Al Shira’aa Arabians in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, who fell for her charms while she was a younger mare. Fahera is now an important part of Al Shira’aa’s show team, and it is easy to see why. Her sire is TS Apolo, a stallion that incorporates Egyptian, Polish and a good dash of Gainey breeding into his pedigree. Foaled in 2003, TS Apolo is by TS Don Brave (AF Don Giovani x BF Tiffany Select by BF Rageymazon). His dam is the Ali Jamaal (Ruminaja Ali x Heritage Memory by El Magato) daughter, Fairness FHP, a double Aladdinn (Nureddin x Lalage by Gerwazy) mare being out of GAP North Nessy (Northerlei x Ambrlight by Aladdinn). Looking to Fahera’s damline, we have the mare Epy who combines Polish and Russian damlines with an infusion of Egyptian.

Epy is by the Pentari (Partner x Nitouche by Pohaniec) son, Murisch (ex Murika by Manneki out of Murama). Epy’s dam is Zira (Achnaton S x Levadia by Komplekt). Kompletkt was a son of Patron (Negatiw x Provincia by Priboj), the foundation of the most enduring sirelines in modern day history. Fahera was always beautiful, but it is her winning ways from 2014 that caught the eye of Al Shira’aa Arabians. At the Travagliato International B Show in her native Italy, Fahera won her class and took the Gold

Senior Female Championship. She added to this a second Gold Championship that year, this time at the Italian National Championship in Citta di Castello. At the Italian A Show in Verona, Fahera took the Silver Senior Female title, and she ended her year World Top Ten. By now, Al Shira’aa Arabians were one of a growing number of people taking a special interest in this beautiful, brilliant moving young mare. Before the 2015 Bruges International Show, Fahera was sold to Al Shira’aa and her first show for them, in a phenomenally tough class in Bruges, saw her place fifth. At the 2015 European Championships in Verona, Fahera placed fourth. 2016 saw Fahera compete for the first time in the Middle East, and she took the Bronze Senior Female Championship at the Sharjah International Festival. From there, she went to the Mediterranean & Arab Countries Championship, held on the beaches of Menton, and she won her class in style. Come the championships, Fahera just missed out on a medal, finishing fourth. Her final show in 2016 was the Paris World Championships and she showed her true style, taking second place in a very strong mare class. Again, Fahera would be the bridesmaid come the championship, taking fourth place once more. 2016 was also an important year for Fahera and Al Shira’aa as she produced for them an enchanting filly by the multiple-champion Emerald J (QR Marc x Emandoria). The whole team is thrilled with Fahera’s first foal for them. Above all, Fahera is a true white swan – so regal and elegant, and she has such charisma. With handler David Pujalt by her side, 260

Fahera comes to life the moment that she enters the show-ring, displaying beautiful Arabian type combined with the power of an incredible mare. Fahera certainly falls in the category of ‘one to watch’. If you have not yet seen her, she will amaze you and capture your heart. For those already converted, we know that it is only a matter of time before she is right up there in the championship spotlights once more, winning the titles that she truly does deserve.

“I saw Fahera for the first time in Paris 2014 in the collecting ring, and she immediately caught my eye with her attitude. I found her very special and her look that day remained in my mind for a long time... So afterwards when she was offered to us, I could instantly picture her joining the Al Shira’aa collection. “I remember the first time I showed her, just after four days after I had her for the first time in my hands. It was in Bruges, and we placed fifth; not such an inspiring beginning. I was a little bit disappointed, as she was boring

and didn’t express herself. I didn’t know the mare and I didn’t know exactly how to bring out the look that she had a year ago at the world Championships. We didn’t perform well, and this was reflected in the result. “Soon, when I could spend more time with her, I discovered that Fahera was such an interesting and smart creature. She made me understand pretty quickly that the most important was to make her happy! She knew the job, so she just needed to have fun, which we did, and then the good results started to 266

come. “Fahera won some titles at shows, as already mentioned in this feature. These included Bronze Senior Female Champion in Sharjah and class winner in Menton. She also placed second in Chantilly, and there were many more highlights besides. With the good results, we both started to have fun in the ring. “Fahera is such a reliable mare, and I always know she will give her best. This allows me to relax a little and enjoy the moment. Fahera

has also made me better as a handler and she also gave me many satisfying moments. alve a tutti. Sono Antonio Caracciolo, un giovane fotografo del Purosangue Arabo. La mia passione per i cavalli nasce quando avevo circa 5 anni. La passione di mio padre e dei miei zii per questo animale stupendo ha contagiato anche me. Nel 2010 ho comprato la mia prima macchina fotografica; nelle riviste di PSA guardavo le foto di questa magnifica razza e pensavo ‘ Che foto stupende, che cavalli… Vorrei tanto scattare foto come queste!!’.. E così, un po’ per gioco, un po’ per passione, la mia avventura in questo magnifico mondo prese il via. Iniziai a fotografare gli show da bordo campo, facendo a spintoni con la gente per arrivare il più vicino possibile al ring e poter fare qualche scatto decente. Con il passare del tempo, fortunatamente, sono riuscito ad entrare in campo e, per me, era già un sogno che si realizzava! Ero in contatto con giudici, fotografi, professionisti del settore e con tutto quello che circondava il PSA. Poi, arrivò la chiamata per il primo show come fotografo ufficiale! Un emozione unica. Posso dire che cio’ fu davvero il mio trampolino di lancio. Da lì, un crescendo di show e foto in allevamenti privati. Iniziai a viaggiare al nord Italia, al centro e a girare per tutta la Sicilia, fotografando tantissimi cavalli. Sono stato in show come il Campionato Mondiale di Egiziani a Vermezzo, a Roccalumera, Piazza Armerina, Castellana Sicula e molti altri. Per me, poter unire la passione per la fotografia all’amore per il Purosangue Arabo è qualcosa di magico, di straordinario. Quando scatto una foto, non la faccio tanto per, metto tutto il mio amore ed ispirazione; ecco perché cerco sempre di poter fare di meglio e migliorarmi giorno dopo giorno, scatto dopo scatto per regalare ad un allevatore o appassionato un ricordo che durerà per sempre. ello everyone! My name is Antonio Caracciolo and I am a young photographer of the Purebred Arabian. My passion for horses arouse when I was about 5 years old. My father’s and my uncles’ passion for this wonderful animal ‘infected’ me. In 2010, I bought my first camera; inside the magazines on Purebreds I would look at the pictures of this magnificent breed and think ‘What a great shot, what a horse! I wish I could take pictures like these..!!’. So a bit for fun a bit for passion, my adventure in this magnificent world took off. I started taking photos on the shows crouching down on the sidelines, throwing people around to get as close as possible to the ring and be able to make some decent shooting. Fortunately, with the passage of time, I was able to get into the arena and, for me that was by itself a dream that came true! I was in contact with judges, photographers and specialists of the sector and everything around the Purebred Arabians. Then, the call for the first show as an official photographer came in! A unique emotion… I can say that was indeed my stepping stone. From there came an increasing number of participations in the shows and a lot of shooting for private farms. I started travelling to north Italy, to the center and down to all around Sicily photographing many horses. I have been in shows such as the Straight Egyptians World Championship in Vermezzo, Roccalumera, Armerina Square, Castellana Sicula and many others. Combining my passion for photography and the love for the Purebred Arabian is something magical, extraordinary. When I take a picture, I don’t make it just for the sake of it. I put all my love and inspiration, which is why I always try to do my best and improve myself day by day, shot after shot so to give a breeder or simply a lover a memory that will last forever. IS THERE A SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN WOMEN AND HORSES? WRITTEN BY SONJA SMALDONE

mong those who practice horse riding today, the majority are undoubtedly women. Why so many women are attracted to the horse? According to Freud, the horse that comes in your dream symbolizes the manifestation of a desire for freedom, including sexual, that in the everyday life of the dreamer, often female, cannot be granted. If we explore the various meanings of the affinity between women and horses it urges that ‘The woman loves the horse because it is for her something missing in her life or she strives for: freedom, Eros, strength and beauty’. Moreover, why is that so many women choose to do this soul-searching right through the horse? Well, the horse himself, probably dreams of being free and yet he lives in captivity. He has been a symbol of fertility for millennia, however in our society he is not free to reproduce himself how and whom he wants with. The horse has a dual nature: he expresses the pure instinctive passion in his capacity as a wild horse, and expresses the dominion of reason over instinct in his role as a tamed horse to serve the man in ancient times (and only more recently the woman alike) and the community. It may be that every woman feels within herself these two opposing forces: a desire for rebellion and the need to give in to parental authority and to dominant culture. Who better than the horse can understand her inner conflict, experiencing it firsthand? And again: “To a woman, go horseback riding, or deal with horses, can therefore be a way to learn more about herself and/or complete herself, undertaking a challenging course that can and should also be therapeutic? Who is it this article for? We wrote this paper thanks to the testimony of models who are women in the first place, and who love horses immensely, but also for men who want to better understand women. It is enriched by various stories of models and horses, narrated directly by the protagonists. The article is the natural follow-up of ‘Riding Models’ and it confirms our commitment in wanting to be promoters around the world of a new way of understanding ‘horse riding’ that gifts the horse with the dignity he deserves...

was born in a small town about 4 hours East of Prague in the Czech Republic. I was discovered through a competition that I won called the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Elite Lookâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; of the year in Prague. I moved to Milan, Italy, when I was 15 years old with a contract from Elite Models and ended up living there for about 6 years while travelling to other countries for modeling assignments. At 21 years old I moved to America and

started modeling in New York City and Miami while I still travelled to Europe for work. I now live on my ranch in Palm Beach, Florida with about 16 of my horses, my 3 dogs, cat and a marmoset monkey called Chi Chi. I am a HUGE animal lover and I volunteer with a couple animal charities but mainly with a charity called Fashion Tails that uses Celebrities and models to do photo shoots with Fashion photographers and rescue animals to help find them homes

, raise money and create more awareness. My first experience with horses was in Italy where a good friend of mine had a couple horses that we would go visiting and riding. It was then that I learnt

to ride and started my passion for horses. I would go riding whenever my job would allow and I wasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t travelling. I especially loved to groom the horses and do their manes, even if I didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t ride that day. Italy is such an amazingly beautiful place and I got spoiled being able to ride in such landscapes. Unfortunately when I moved to America I did not get to ride for a while since I had no horses and lived in big cities with little opportunities to be around horses. It was while I lived in Miami Beach that I met my now partner who always wanted to have Arabians. I was not so familiar with Arabians but the first time I met one I knew they were the only horse for me. So about 6 years ago my partner and I bought our first horse a very Exotic chestnut flaxen

y name is Nadia Hanakova, I was born in Belarus in a city named Gomel. Now I live in Canada, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Montreal.

Since my childhood horses have been my passion number one in life. The number two is â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;drivingâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;... No matter what.. almost any type of car, from the smallest to the biggest one... Any truck with the horse trailer

pleasure. To me it is a great opportunity to be around these gorgeous animals as much as possible. Horses are really my greatest passion in life! I just cannot imagine my life without them... They can feel your presence from far... They do feel your mood, your fear, your happiness or sadness. A horse can be your best friend or your psychologist or even your private family doctor! Sometimes it happens that you have had a stressful

day or maybe some little pain bothers you. You do not need to go to a doctorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s office for help, just go and visit your horse and you will receive kind of full treatment from your mind to your heart! We train our horses to various commands and obedience and they are always ready to listen to us. But at the same time they can teach us a lot in return like how to be patient, kind, strong. Horses teach us the ability to listen to their own language... body language, mind language. They give us the ability to believe in ourselves and how to be responsible in many lifeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s situations. This is my story and I hope to continue my life being surrounded by these wonderful animals and to learn more and more from them day by day.

was born in Northern California, USA. Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve a passion for horses, more specifically Arabians, for as long as I can remember. It happened once that my father brought me a random notebook he had found in a hotel, about the Ansata program, on a business trip to Arkansas, and I got smitten.

After finishing school at the University of Colorado, I was focused on career as an auditor in Los Angeles also working as a model and raising 2 small boys. In 2006, I moved to Colorado and bought my first Arabian horse, a Straight Egyptian stallion, Danseurs Rafiq by El Hadiyyah not knowing what his pedigree

meant, just out of pure emotion! Some months later I leased a Straight Egyptian mare, SDR Hostan Granat and bred the 2 of them for my first Straight Egyptian foal, Nasmat Asfour in 2007. I learnt everything I could about Straight Egyptians. I named my program ‘Wadi Al Nasmat’, ‘Valley of Breath’, because there horses have provided me a refuge and sense of peace and calm.

It’s hard to believe but we’re expecting our 10th foal crop this year and were on our 3rd generation of breeding. We have sold many horses over the years, mostly to the Middle East, namely to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and occasionally to Europe or the USA. I spend all of my time with my husband Iban, who is my main passion. We love doing things with the horses together.

On a typical day we feed the horses, work with mares and foals and handle stallions. Right now we are working on a new barn, designing a tack room and office area. We try to ride every day. Iban is a dressage teacher so he loves to progress the horses tooâ&#x20AC;Ś We are developing a lesson program to teach dressage. Besides

everything we do with the horses, we also enjoy having coffee together, playing volleyball several times a week, dreaming big and raising our 6 boys (Gage, Caden, Luca, Thanasi, Stavros and Yann). This year we have several trips on the agenda!!!

Hello Fernando, hello Kristi! First of all thank you so much for accepting our interview for the ‘Riding Couples’ dedicated section. Let’s start from the very beginning. When and where did you first meet? Scottsdale, at a going away party for a friend. Fernando, how did you declare your love to Kristi? Actually Kristi approached me and asked me to dance, she thought I was handsome. There was just chemistry from day one, the rest is history. Kristi, what was your first reaction? I was just happy he wanted to dance and thought I was cute too. LOL

Fernando & Kristi What in your opinion are the most important elements for a successful relationship today? Love is the most important thing then be each other’s best friend, laugh a lot together and communication is key. To what extent is ‘communication’ important within a couple? Like we mentioned above communication in any type of a relationship is essential. ‘Men come from Mars, and Women are from Venus? Do you agree? And Fernando comes from Brazil, which brings a whole other dynamic into the equation. LOL Kristi, how does it feel to be the partner of one of the most respected and successful Arabian horses’ breeders and trainers on the international stage? Pretty darn amazing!!! I have so much respect for Fernando and what he has accomplished on his journey with the Arabian horse. I never get tired to hear the stories of his time in Europe and Qatar or what it was like to lead some of those special horses to their championship wins at some of the most prestigious shows 306

in our industry. Fernando, same question to you. How does it feel to be the companion of a great horsewoman like Kristi? First and foremost, to be married to someone that shares the same passion in life makes everything special. Kristi’s dedication and love for the Arabian horse is transported in our life. Everything she does is done with passion and love to achieve perfection. Last but not least, I am very proud of her accomplishments as a breeder from the depths of my heart. So, where did this passion for Arabian horses you both share so intensively arise from, and what role has it played in building your relationship? For Fernando: “I have always loved horses, it was part of my family. It stemmed from my Godfather Roberto Azevedo, my three major ‘loves’ actually came from him; horses, women and racecars.” For Kristi: “I saw my mom’s love for the Arabian horse and it just transmitted to me. Not a minute of my day was not spent thinking about the beauty of the Arabian horse. I never out grew it like some girls, it only intensified over the years. “ As a role in our relationship it was the Arabian horse that brought us together. It also happens to be part of our every day conversations. To share our ideas about breeding, upcoming stallions, running down memory lane or planning for an upcoming show. The passion for the Arabian horse is a nucleus in our relationship. How long have you been breeding Arabian horses for? Did you start together or separately? We both started separately. Fernando started breeding horses in Brazil in 1984. For me, my mom did a little breeding when I was growing up but not on the level we do it today. Our first official DPA (Dellesta Park Arabians) bred horse came in 2001 with Caro Lynn DPA (*Form Carillon x Magics Charisma).

We are fascinated by the history of the Arabian, being the “Mother” breed of all other horses. And that the traits we love in the Arabian horse actually were part of their survival in the desert through the years. As things evolve that world became known as an industry, this terminology is hard to accept. Though Arabian horses are our lively hood, we prefer to be fascinated with our love for them. Also it amazes us how the world of Arabian horses brings people, brings friends from all corners of the globe together for one common denominator, the Arabian horse. What’s your daily routine on the breeding farm? Do you have specific different tasks? “Running Haras JM Training & Marketing Center, Ocala, FL, the day starts early and ends late. I am very hands on, horses in our barn are not just a number, I personally groom, condition, feed and train each one of them every day,” states Fernando. “I use to be every day in the barn, from being a breeding manager for years and taking part in the care of my own breeding horses each day. Times have changed with my career path that I am not able to be in the barn each day. I rely on Fernando to care for the DPA show horses and breeding horses in Florida and so greatly appreciative of that. For the rest of the breeding mares they are located in Washington state and cared for by my mother Janel,” explains Kristi How has the Arabian horse enriched your lives? From A to Z they have enriched our lives. They are such a personal horse to be around that it is hard not to be blessed each day by our interaction with them. The Arabian horse is part of our family. Fernando, what does your dream horse look like? My dream horse looks just like Arn-ett Perlane or Anasta Ibn Halima.

Kristi, who was the first Arabian horse you laid eyes on and what was this experience like? I believe I was almost born on an Arabian horse. My mother got her first Arabian when she was thirteen years old so there was never a day in my life that I did not have an Arabian. The first famous Arabian horse I met was probably El Hilal at Vantage Point Farm in Washington State. That was a magical moment and from the point forward I wanted to attend every US Nationals show and dreamed of one day showing my own National Champion.

What advice would you give to a young person eager to undertake activities as a proper breeder/trainer? For Fernando: “It is about having love and dedication for the horse”. For Kristi: “What I recommend to young breeders is to study your pedigrees, understand phenotype versus genotype. I received tremendous advice from already established breeders; so seek consul from the people who have been breeding great ones for generations. And maybe most of all do not follow the “Flavor” of the month stallion, really do your homework.”

What are, in your opinion, the most important qualities to become a good, mindful breeder/trainer? “For me it is all about the feeling for it,” states Fernando. “I am obviously not a trainer, but, as a breeder the most important quality is to stay TRUE to what is you ideal of an Arabian horse. And to understand what that ideal for yourself is!” Kristi.

What are your plans for the future? Any new dream in life? “Maybe one day retire and count the waves on the beach but until than continue to do what I am doing. Living the dream every day” states Fernando. “I, of course, would love to count waves with my husband on the beach but I also dream of building our own farm somewhere in the States, maybe even two. Also, Fernando has bred a US National Champion in HSE Noelani, for me. I have always been a bridesmaid with Reserves, that US National Championship on a DPA bred horse would complete the dream” states Kristi.

Could you please tell us about a horse who has particularly distinguished himself morphologically? For both of us, it is the young colt we bred Vesuvius DPA. He has always been beautiful from day one but we could not have imagined how he would morph into what he has become as a three year old stallion. Every day he just keeps getting better and now we anxiously await his first foal crop to be born in Italy, and what he will be as a sire. To what extent is ‘marketing’ relevant in this sector? “Marketing is everything” Fernando. “I completely agree with the statement of marketing is everything. I also want to see us as an industry focus on outreach marketing to grow the breed. Let’s share our amazing Arabian horses with the World.” Kristi Who are your best friends in this field? “My wife Kristi, my family and so many very dear friends.” Fernando “I feel so incredibly blessed with some of the most amazing friends in the industry; they are more like family to me than friends. For sure Robin Hopkinson holds a very dear spot in my heart, also the friendship with Bob & Janene Boggs is extra special. There are so many others that are family to us and of course number one is my best friend Fernando.” Kristi Could you tell us a story you are particularly fond of? “Just ask my wife, I have so many stories, where do I even start. Please come and find me at the next show and I will more than happily share.” Fernando. “Ditto”. Kristi

What are the objectives you both would like to reach in your career as breeders? Our motto is to breed beautiful athletic Arabian horses. What happens after that is just destiny. In your opinion, who are today some of the most accomplished available stallions? Why? “Marwan Al Shaqab has produced sons and daughters, and like himself have won Championships all over the world. And those resulting offspring are now producing also; QR Marc is a prime example. “ Fernando “I am a little old school and I love to utilize the “older” boys like Padrons Psyche and Gazal Al Shaqab, these are timeless stallions that come very close to my ideal horse. I also feel very strong to use our own stallion EF Kingston; he is also close to my ideal and has been an amazing sire, just never had the big name behind him to achieve what others have.” Kristi Fernando, Kristi…Will you both leave us one last message please? “To enjoy and share the passion of the Arabian horse with your spouse is a dream, to share this amazing horse with others is always a goal and appreciate everyday to the fullest. “ Thanks so much for your contribution Fernando and Kristi. ello Pietro! Thank you very much for accepting our interview. Let’s start from the very beginning.

When did you start taking an interest in the Arabian horse breed? Horses and passion for horses have always been part of my life. About 19 years ago, while I was attending a morphology competition during a ‘Travagliato Cavalli’ edition, I got fascinated and ravished by the Purebred Arabian. My project to breed this wonderful breed began exactly from there. What’s so special about this breed and how long have you been breeding it? I have been breeding horses for 40 years. First, I bred Quarter racing Horses. Since 18 years or so, I have bred Purebred Arabians. Each breed has its own qualities, its strengths and its beauty, but the Purebred Arabian has a particular charisma, a ‘primordial’ charm that embodies the essence of the horse.

Da dove nasce questa passione per il Cavallo Arabo? I cavalli e la passione per i cavalli hanno sempre fatto parte della mia vita. Circa 19 anni fa, durante un’edizione di Travagliato Cavalli, assistendo ad una competizione di morfologia sono stato letteralmente affascinato e conquistato dal Purosangue Arabo. Da lì è iniziato il progetto di allevare questa splendida razza. Cos’ha di speciale questa razza e da quanto tempo la allevi? Allevo cavalli da 40 anni. Prima cavalli Quarter Horse da competizione e da 18 anni circa Purosangue Arabi. Ogni razza ha le sue qualità, i suoi pregi e la sua bellezza, ma il Purosangue Arabo possiede un particolare carisma, un fascino “primordiale” che incarna l’essenza stessa del cavallo.

Quale significato ha per te la parola What does the Re Family ‘allevare’? word ‘breeding’ Allevare per me mean to you? significa “passione”, non allevo per un ritorno economico. Per me Breeding to me means ‘passion’, I don’t breed for an economic return. è dedizione, cura e ricerca per il raggiungimento uno specifico To me, it is first and foremost about dedication, care and research to obiettivo di eccellenza. achieve a specific goal of excellence. What’s your typical day like in the barn? Ours it’s a small farm for a precise life choice and to keep high quality standards in terms of ‘products’. In the morning, before going to the headquarters of my entrepreneurial activities, I always step into the barn to check on and look after my horses and, I do so, even in my lunch break. In the morning and in the evening, the staff of the stables shall ensure the cleaning and maintenance of the facility while I personally take care of the food, health and breeding program. In particular, I follow all phases of my mares’ births in person. In

La mattina, prima di recarmi presso la sede della mia attività imprenditoriale, passo sempre in allevamento per controllare e accudire i miei cavalli e così anche durante la pausa pranzo. Al mattino e alla sera il personale di scuderia provvede alla pulizia e alla manutenzione degli spazi, mentre io curo personalmente l’alimentazione, la salute e il programma allevatoriale.

practice, almost all of my foals were born with my assistance; nothing could give me more excitement than that! What’s your relationship with your horses? Horses are part of my life since childhood and I Claudia & Otty could not imagine a life in which they don’t exist. They have been my companions, sports partners, allies and, sometimes, even antagonistics. In particular, during my racing career, I could establish some very strong ties of physical and mental understanding with my horses so to be a truly winning combination. I like to be called a ‘horseman’, that is, a man who understands their psychology, their reactions, and their needs and gets in return their dedication in a constant exchange of mutual respect. In your opinion, what specific qualities or skills do you need to become a good breeder? Surely, passion, dedication and perseverance are crucial, but, then you also need to have some inventiveness and a ‘vision’ in order to define a clear-cut breeding line. You must be determined and have some risk tolerance. You have to invest your time and resources in studying the breed, its genetics, and crossing performances seeking constant quality improvement. Year after year, foal after foal, with successes and failures, without ever give up! How would you advise a young person eager to undertake a breeder career? As I said we should breed for passion in the first place and not only for some financial return, which obviously it’s highly rewarding, yet difficult to achieve especially in the short-term. I especially recommend you start breeding with one (and possibly more than one) good broodmare, and not by a stallion, and deepen very much the study of genetics, of bloodlines and their developments so to define the best breeding program for you. Mares are the foundations on which to base the whole breeding project, the knowledge and study of the breed are the main guarantees for success of this project.

To what extent is the climate of our territory adequate to raise the Arabian horse? I think that’s irrelevant today. This breed has already had a very long time to adapt

In particolare seguo direttamente tutti i parti delle mie fattrici. In pratica la quasi totalità dei miei puledri è nata con la mia assistenza, nulla potrebbe darmi più emozione! Qual è il tuo rapporto con i cavalli? I cavalli fanno parte della mia vita fin dall’infanzia e non potrei immaginare un’esistenza in cui non ne facciano parte. Sono stati per me compagni, partner sportivi, alleati ed anche a volte antagonisti. In particolare, durante la mia attività agonistica ho stretto legami molto profondi di intesa fisica e mentale con i miei cavalli, necessari per essere un binomio davvero vincente. Mi piace definirmi “un uomo di cavalli”, cioè un uomo che comprende la loro psicologia, le loro reazioni, le loro necessità e riceve in cambio la loro dedizione, in uno scambio costante di reciproco rispetto.

Davide Re Quali sono, secondo Te, le qualità principali per diventare un buon allevatore? Ritengo siano fondamentali la passione, la dedizione, la costanza ma anche l’inventiva e la capacità di visione per definire una linea precisa di allevamento. Occorre determinazione, ed anche una certa propensione al rischio, per investire tempo e risorse nello studio della razza, della genetica, nella sperimentazione di incroci, ricercando un costante miglioramento della qualità. Anno dopo anno, puledro dopo puledro, successi e insuccessi, senza desistere mai. Quale consiglio daresti a un giovane che volesse intraprendere l’attività di allevatore? Come ho detto ritengo fondamentale allevare per passione e non principalmente per ritorno economico, che ovviamente è una soddisfazione, difficile però da conseguire soprattutto nel breve. Consiglio soprattutto di iniziare l’allevamento da una (e se possibile più di una) buona fattrice, e non da uno stallone, e di approfondire molto lo studio della genetica, delle linee di sangue e delle loro evoluzioni per definire i migliori breeding. Le fattrici sono le fondamenta su cui basare l’intero progetto allevatoriale, la conoscenza e lo studio della razza sono le principali garanzie di successo di questo progetto. Secondo te, quanto il clima del nostro territorio è adeguato al Cavallo Arabo? Ritengo che sia ad oggi ininfluente. La razza ha avuto un tempo ormai molto prolungato di adattamento al nostro territorio, e poi i soggetti nati e allevati in un determinato clima sono naturalmente adattati ad esso. Sappiamo che in passato ti sei dedicato anche a discipline Western… Ci racconteresti qualcosa a proposito di questa esperienza?

that I haven’t yet found in other disciplines. Do you miss the shows of the past or do you prefer the atmosphere of today’s exhibitions? Honestly, yes, I do miss the shows of the past. At the time, almost at the beginning of the Purebred Arabian breeding phenomenon in Italy – when interests used to be far less strong than today, relationships among breeders were more relaxed and marked by true friendship and a more genuine and fair sense of competition, not ruled by power strategies. In the past it would be just impossible to see a person who had participated in world-level competitions to also participate in a national C-class competition as it happens today.

Ti mancano gli show del passato o preferisci l’atmosfera delle mostre di oggi? In tutta sincerità sì, mi mancano gli show del passato. Allora, praticamente agli inizi del fenomeno allevatoriale del Purosangue Arabo in Italia e quindi su dimensioni ed interessi decisamente meno estesi di quelli attuali, i rapporti erano più distesi e improntati all’amicizia e ad una più genuina e leale competizione non governata da strategie di potere. Allora sarebbe stato impossibile vedere, come oggi invece è accaduto, un soggetto che abbia partecipato a competizioni di livello mondiale partecipare ad un concorso di classe C nazionale. Ci parli di un tuo esemplare che si è particolarmente distinto a livello morfologico? Ritengo che il soggetto da me prodotto che abbia maggiormente raggiunto lo standard morfologico d’eccellenza sia la puledra Nemesi Regalis (Nashira by Chawy NA x SA Faez Simbad). Da Futurity lo scorso anno, si è sempre classificata prima negli show che ha disputato in Italia e, crescendo, ritengo che abbia ancor più migliorato le proprie caratteristiche. Penso che questa puledrina possa essere destinata ad un ottimo percorso di livello internazionale.

Tell us about one of your subjects who has had a history with morphological competitions? I think that the filly Nemesis Regalis (Nashira by Chawy NA x SA Faez Sinbad) has mostly reached the highest morphological standard of excellence. From being Futurity last year, she has always ranked first in shows around Italy and, growing up, I think she has improved her own characteristics even more. I think this filly is now set to conquer the international arenas.

What’s the most important breeding stallion in the barn and in what ways has he matched your expectations in terms of ‘reproduction’?

We experimented several young stallions and focused on big reproducers, but among these the stallion who I think has made a particular contribution to my herd is definitely WH Justice. On my breeding farm, as well as in the entire global breeding system, WH Justice represented a turning point for being able to convey that sophistication of the head and neck, great charisma and movement that we know very well.

Which of your mares do you believe has been and / or still is the most important?

No doubt the mare Nashira out of Chawy NA (NA Chawy x Lucky Dream). Out of my foundation mare Chawy NA in 2010, she is now the real asset of the herd. We crossed her with sever stallions always quite successfully but her foals have always inherited her correct structure, her strong-willed character and the charm of her movement. Among her most successful products in show and even reproduction, we have the females Natisse Regalis and Nadira Regalis (both by WH Justice), Naisha Regalis (by Storm The Roncola) and last Nemesis Regalis that I mentioned before; while among the males, we have Antheros by Nashira (from Psyrasic).

My dream is to see one my subjects, born and raised in Italy, to participate in the World Championship. I can say I have nearly always been able to fulfill my dreams thanks to hard work, dedication, investment, perseverance and certainly a bit of luck, and maybe I will be able to fulfill this one too…

How important is ‘marketing’ in this sector? I think it is very important. And essential both for sale and to make your breeding products known

Several Italian breeders are selling abroad many of their top horses. What do you think?

Given the goals I set to myself, I cannot agree with this line of thinking. Actually I think that by depriving our farms of the best subjects and the most important ones, you will also jeopardize the entire Italian breeding system. My position is to keep on breeding the best subjects, especially the mares, to ensure the continuity of my breeding line and raise its quality constantly.

Quali sono gli obiettivi che vorresti raggiungesse il tuo allevamento?

Il mio obiettivo è di proseguire nel mio progetto allevatoriale con la massima coerenza e nella costante ricerca del miglioramento della qualità dei miei prodotti. Il mio sogno è quello di vedere un mio soggetto, nato ed allevato in Italia, partecipare al Campionato Mondiale. I miei sogni posso dire di averli finora sempre realizzati con grande lavoro, dedizione, investimenti, costanza e sicuramente un pizzico di fortuna, chissà che non mi riesca anche questo….

Quanto è importante il marketing in questo settore?

Ritengo sia molto importante. E’ essenziale sia per la vendita, sia per far conoscere i propri prodotti allevatoriali.

Diversi allevatori italiani stanno vendendo all’estero molti dei cavalli più importanti del nostro Paese. Cosa ne pensi Tu?

E’ evidente, per quelli che sono i miei obiettivi, che non posso essere concorde con questa linea di pensiero. Penso che privando i nostri allevamenti dei soggetti migliori e più importanti, si deprima l’intero sistema allevatoriale italiano. La mia posizione è quella di mantenere in allevamento i soggetti migliori, in particolare le fattrici, per assicurare la continuità della mia linea allevatoriale ed elevarne costantemente la qualità.

Ci racconteresti una storia alla quale sei particolarmente legato?

Hello Emmie, First of all, thank you for agreeing to be interviewed by our Magazine. Let’s start from the very beginning. How did this passion you have for the Purebred Arabian horse begin? I started horseback riding when I was 5 years old at a riding school. Close to my parents’ home is a small breeding farm with Arabian horses called Forelock’s Arabians owned by the Kuijf family. When I was 10 years old my mum and I went to ask if I could groom horses there and they agreed. So that’s where it all began. A ten year old girl getting infected with “Arabitis” To what extent has this love you have acquired for the Arabian horse influenced your life? It has taken over my life completely. After high school I went to Nursing School, got my bachelor in Nursing and worked as a nurse for several years while in my spare time I was still going to Forelock’s Arabians to groom, ride and play with the foals on a daily basis. In 2011 I took the decision to follow my little girl’s dream and work with horses full time. Quit my job, sold my house, moved to Belgium and started working at Schoukens Training Cen-ter. Is your involvement with horses a hobby or mainly a business for you? It’s still a hobby but one I make my living with now. Besides my work with the Arabians I still own an Arabian gelding who I spend time with to relax. So after working the whole day with horses I go to my own horse to spend some more time with horses. What does the word ‘training’ mean to you? Training means to get a horse in good condition, for a show, competition or otherwise. Food, conditioning, coat, exercise and overall wellbeing are the keys I think, as I believe that when a horse is not happy it will not perform well.

How does training Arabian horses make you feel? Do you believe there is a special connection between a trainer and his/ her horse? For me Arabian Horses are one of the smartest breeds there are. They are very sensitive and quick learners. I particularly like working with young horses, it gives a lot of satisfaction to see how fast they learn. There isn’t always a special connection, same like with people. With some horses you have a better connection then with others. In your opinion, what are the qualities needed to become a good trainer? Stay humble and always be open to learn. You never stop learning. other qualities that are important to become a good trainer I think are patience, dedication and not to be scared to do the ‘dirty’ jobs. Which bloodlines do you prefer to train? The Russian bloodlines, I grew up with only Russian bloodlines for 15 years and for me they are strong-minded, gentle, smart of course, stubborn. But what you give is what you get. Once you gain their trust they have an enormous will to work for you. Out of all horses you have been entrusted to, which is the one you had to bear a greater commitment with? My first love Lanizjka (Nizjni X Lavinia (x Komplekt)) I met in 1995. I groomed and rode her, took care of her babies,… at Forelock’s Arabians. I had the privilege of taking care of her after her retirement from the breeding barn at age 19 until I had to sadly say goodbye to her 2 years ago. In the past 6 years I have worked with a large number of Arabian horses, two of them have a really special place in my heart, CR Jasmeenah and MCA Magnum Gold. Could you tell us what is your ideal type of Arabian horse? And which are the fea-tures it should have? I love big well bodied, good moving horses.

opportunities to help me learn and grow within this business. 6 years ago I could not have imagined where I am today… On the one hand, to have the privilege to work for Sheikh Jassim and on the other, to be able to be part of one of the most successful training centers of the world. I don’t know what the future will hold for me but I am confident that I am not at the end of my journey yet.

To what extent is the dam-line important for you when breeding Arabians? I do think there is sometimes too much emphasis on the stallions these days as in ‘he will be able to fix everything’. I prefer a solid broodmare, well built, correct and big movements over a very typey but faulty mare. I grew up with Russian breeding, these mares have a pedigree full of well buil horses. As there is a strong foundation I believe it’s possible to bring in a more typey horse/stallion that has some issues in his conformation as the mare is strong enough to handle it. Emmie, you have taken on the challenge of being the stable manager at Schou-kens Training Center… Since the 1st of January I have added to my work for Sheikh Jassim a new challenge back at STC. I worked there before as a showgroom now I am back as a stable manager over-viewing everything. My responsibility is the daily life at the farm, from ordering food, helping with the foal-ing, collecting stallions to making the holiday planning for my colleagues, keeping track of everything. What are your expectations for the future? Dreams change over the years, 10-20 years ago my dream was to make a living working with Arabian horses, I have been very fortunate the past 6 years to be living my dream, meeting the right people at the right times that have given me great

Have you ever participated in Halter classes? I never had the dream to be a handler. However I have shown alongside Tom Oben, mares and foals in the foal classes for Forelock’s Arabians. In the past I showed my own gelding at several Dutch shows just for fun, and showed some horses during my time at Knocke Arabians.

Do you miss past times contests or do you prefer the atmosphere of today’s festi-vals? I do love the atmosphere of the Arabian horse shows these days, however sometimes I miss the simplicity, take your own chair, sit on the grass, easy going way of the past. The only show that compares in these ways, that I have been to, is the show in Ströhen. The emphasis is on ‘show’ these days, lights, music, VIP tables, Booths, … It used to be on ‘the horse’, in a field somewhere, with a homemade fence, bring your own booze. Is there any victory you feel particular close to? Like most people that know me will probably expect for sure CR Jasmeenah becoming World Champion Mare in 2011 with Tom Schoukens and winning the Platinum World Champion title 5 years later. Also worth mentioning is ‘Gold’ winning his class in Aachen in 2012 before becoming Bronze Champion Stallion. Al Khatab Al Thani becoming Bronze World Champion Stal-lion with Tom Oben. Ghanadir Al Zobair becoming World Champion Yearling filly 2012 shown by Tom Schoukens and last, but not least, Jaal Aljassimya winning the Silver World Champion title with Glenn Schoukens in 2016. If so, do you remember your first show? The first show I can recall I went to, a Regional C show in Kootwijk, Holland. I think I was about 11 years old and it was completely different from the shows nowadays. Do the most deserving horses in terms of today’s standards really win? From the horses that are being shown for sure the best ones end up in the top. On the other hand in the past 10 years it has become increasingly more difficult for small breeders to compete at the highest level due to several reasons; the use of frozen semen, higher breeding fees, and embryo transfer and also the higher cost of participating at the shows itself. It’s not all about the top farms and horses winning, there is more to the Arabian horse world, we should not forget that the others are as important to keep the Arabian Horse community alive. The breeders Cup in Chantilly is a very good initiative for the European breeders and the Amateur Challenge, fully supported by Sheikh Jassim and Bart van Buggenhout, has been a great initiative to bring back the joy to the smaller breeder and horse owner, get new people involved as well as given a boost to the horse market.

Can you tell us the funniest episode has ever happened to you over the last few years? Over the past years I had so much fun with the people I have worked with. A few memories come to mind: Wynand lifting Jassmin off the ground while holding the electric wire, Rosie falling over in the mud, Wynand rolling on the floor laughing while I was trying to hold on to a foal in the field. Last week Jesse called me if I could please go and turn off the water in the portables ASAP, I ran to the other stable, turned off the water and went to the stable where he was “fixing” the automatic waterier where I found him trenched in water. And there are so many more… What advice would you give to those who approach the world of Purebred Arabi-an horse for the first time? Enjoy the beauty of the Arabian breed, be open to everyone’s opinion and have fun! Emmie, will you please leave a final message for our readers? Follow your dream. Good morning Olivia. First of all thank you very much for agreeing to be interviewed by our Magazine. Let’s start from the very beginning. 1) How did this passion you have for the Purebred Arabian horse begin? This passion started through my grandmother who was a big “fan” of the breed and owned a couple or mares for riding at my family farm in Uruguay. To what extent has this love you have acquired for the Arabian horse influenced your life? Arabian horses are my passion, my dream, my way of living. “Influenced” is an understatement, I can say the ARE my life. Is your involvement with Arabian horses a hobby or mainly a business for you? I´m fortunate to say my job is my hobby! What does the word ‘handling’ mean to you? “Handling” an Arabian horse is pure ART. What feelings do you receive by handling Arabian horses? I feel I´m a star lol! Is there any particular symbiosis between a handler and his/her horse? Absolutely, it´s all about “timing”. This is very difficult to explain and to experience

and its very related to the symbiosis you have with the horse, about how to feel and follow its movements and how to get the best movements or pose for each. (Still feel I cannot do it properly after 12 years) In your opinion, what are the qualities needed to become a good handler? Natural talent to get this timing described before and very self confident I think are the most important. I know amazing handlers that don´t LOVE horses and horse LOVERS trying to be good handlers. Out of all horses you have been entrusted to, which is the one you had to bear a greater commitment with? For sure Excalibur EA. Olivia, would you tell us how your ideal type of Arabian horse should look like? And which features he should have? My ideal horse is a balanced horse, a horse that you don´t need to be thinking on the faults you need to correct, but on the qualities you need to add or improve. What got you into morphology competitions? The adrenaline and deep emotions I felt when I saw the horses that I previously had helped to condition and get ready, coming into the ring. My first experience was in Brazil during my

first visit and internship at Guzzo Arabian Training. Do you remember your first show? My first show was at Expo Prado – Uruguay when I was 12, and saw Tati Strauch (a relative I´ve never met at that time) all dressed up showing this fancy horses with a black whip. That day I decided that was what I wanted to do. Do you miss past times contests or do you prefer the atmosphere of today’s festivals? Never experienced past time contests, but by the stories of my friends, I would love to see something like that again. Is there any victory you feel particular close to? My experience as a “handler”, (though I think it´s too big

to say I´m one) is only at the local shows in my country so the victory I feel proud of and of how we worked as a team is 2014 Excalibur EA European campaign. Do the most deserving horses in terms of today’s standards really win? I think that at the end the great horses always end up winning if making the correct decisions… What are the differences you notice between the Arabian horses of today and those in the past? From what I can see in old photographs, todays horses are way much more beautiful. Also I don´t agree that the conformation was better before than it is today like many people like to say (always can find exceptions of course).

The standards are so high nowadays that all of us in our little world (show horse industry) are chasing after the same 5 or 6 horses all the time, cause today every corner of the world is reachable. So, we desperately need to come up with ideas to bring new people in who are interested in the horses we are not. How important are the fairs of Arabian horses? Fairs give sense to our activity. Breeding horses only to look at them on our own would be too boring. What advice would you give to those who approach the world of Purebred Arabian horse for the first time? Learn how to enjoy the process (with its ups and downs)

What are your expectations for the future? Keep on exploring, never stop learning and at some point breed a World Champion. Olivia, will you please leave a final message for our readers?
