CDP - THE SCARS
When studying the site, i noticed that there was a grid pattern coming from the existing features; the contour lines from the topographic changes, the remainder of the facade from the Williamson House, the exposed tunnels and the stairs descending into the covered tunnels underground. Using the angles I created 2 grids which would overlap and interlink one another, which generate a series of geometries, similar to some of Lanyons and Fanchons art work. These geometries will go on to produce the floor plans of my design, along with the landscape patterns.

The orientation of the buildings on the ground floor are determined by the existing features of the site, and the two grids formed by the features. To begin, the entrance is created using the pre-existing facade of Joseph Williamsons house. The ground floor acts as a sculpture garden, with a series of individual buildings spread across the whole site. Each section of the landscape is decorated diffrently with either hard paving (which determines the route through the buildings), soft landscape such as grass and other vegetation (flowers, bushes, plants, trees) and water.

southern part of the site, which is around -2 meters from the ground level at which the site is entered. In order to use this level as a buildings whilst following building regulations the roof of this floor level will be elevated by 1m above ground level. This floor can be reached by ramp coming down from the internal courtyard in the centre of the galleries. The Reading Room on this level is for larger items out of the Archive, such a paintings and posters which are too big or may be damaged by carrying down stairs or taking into a lift.

CARBON CAPTURE
The floods of Hebden Bridge had a hugely negative impact on the spirit of the community, and left many people suffering physically and mentally. This building provides a space in which people can gather together to help comfort and ease the troubles, with areas filled with vegetation and trees which is proven to reduce a number of menatl health issues.
The architectural form responds to the use of timber within the construction industry, whilst representing the growth and life process of trees.
In terms of the frequent flooding in the area, the ground floor consists of an unfurnished ancient amphitheatre, allowing it to floor without causing any damage. The rest of the spaces are elevated on stilts , creating a treetop like aesthetic.

‘the medium is the message’
With the relationship and social appreciation of libraries decreasing, it has changed the role of media over time, from a source of providing information and increasing knowledge to a gathering space. There is a significant journey which media has generated, this timeline has became the metaphorical thread that will filter throughout the library. Exploring this, will be a pure experience through movement, rather than traditional interactions, as they are objects of beauty rather than something to read.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________ WORK EXPERIENCE
During Sixth Form, I attended regular meetings with Architects and Civil Engineers where plans were prepared and discussed for a new build project in order to learn more about the practicalities in design and build projects. These meetings gave me an insight of the issues involved in the design process and how problems are met with reasoned solutions. It gave me an understanding of how important communication, organisation and teamwork is throughout architectural projects. Attending these meetings throughout the year proved my commitment and interest in the topic. The opportunity to complete work experience in Project Management at Sellafield Ltd. has informed me about what this type of career entails and how important it is to ensure that all sections of a project come together at the right time. I took part in workshops and group activities to develop transferable skills such as problemsolving, which improved my confidence, as well as giving a feedback presentation to professionals on the final day, further enhancing my presentation skills.

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY Kitchen Porter | The Old Captains House December 2013 – January 2016 Kitchen Porter & Waitress | Summergrove Halls Hotel July 2015 – June 2017 Waitress | The Kellbank August 2015 – March 2017 Kitchen Porter, Waitress & Bartender | The Lowther Arms March 2017 – September 2017 As a Kitchen Porter working in a constant busy environment, I am able to juggle and prioritise different duties which included; washing equipment, crockery and cutlery ready for quick use, ensuring work surfaces and appliances were always clean, helping prepare and plate up meals and desserts, removing and recycling waste, keeping a clean and clutter free workspace, unloading deliveries and organising store rooms. Working under huge pressures surrounded by many risks yet still remaining safe and efficient. Experience as a waitress and bartender in multiple fast-paced restaurant environments, engaging in daily challenges. I am able to deal with and handle difficult situations, some which may be beyond my control, providing reasonable solutions in a timely fashion, whilst meeting the business’ policies and customers’ requests, and keeping a proper etiquette. Working efficiently, yet remaining calm and patient in demanding and stressful conditions. Working as a waitress in three different establishments has given me the opportunity to experience and appreciate various ways of delivering customer care, expanding my skill set by carrying out different duties, including; preparing and cleaning conference rooms before and after use, replenishing beverage and food stations, checking in residents and ensuring the bedrooms are fully equipped and set up for residents arriving, identifying tasks which need completing, stock rotation, serving drinks and meals, general cleaning duties of the bar, restaurant and toilets before, during and after service. The Lowther Arms granting me the responsibility of managing the restaurant and bar along with other colleagues, being in charge resulted in a great deal of pressure in order to meet the requirements and standards set, regardless of the boss’ presence. Dealing with large sums of money by cashing up at the end of shift proved a great sense of trust. All three job roles have been rewarding in terms of allowing me to work both independently and as part of a team, during peak times in ever changing environments. They have provided me with highly developed communication skills, being an extrovert allows me to eagerly chat with customers with different suggestions and options available.

KEY SKILLS The role of a prefect during sixth form developed a high level of responsibility, due to ensuring no damage was caused, and making sure all surrounding are safe for fellow students. Whilst performing these duties it was important that I remained a positive role model. Involvement in the School Community Service during sixth form, consisted of assisting younger pupils with their studies by applying my knowledge to help benefit the students in completing their work, discussing and guiding them with future life choices and opportunities. It improved my time management and communication skills. University exposure has opened my horizons to continually recognising the significance within the design industry of being able to work effectively in a team. Multiple projects consisting of thorough detailed designs, presenting weekly with several different students. Part-time jobs have been sociable working environments which are reliant upon communicating with varying cliental. This interface is hugely rewarding in relation to learning and adopting effective interpersonal skills. Taking part in sport throughout my entire lifetime, it has been highly influential providing me with high levels of selfdiscipline, teamwork, independence and confidence. Achievements have come in swimming, dancing, karate, rugby and athletics. x
