Hi, I’m Holly, a BA (Hons) postgraduate looking to further explore my creative career. Throughout my degree, I have enjoyed searching for new ways to design. Consequently, I have gained a passion for designing to inspire and motivate those that use them.

I have also enjoyed working alongside other creative minds and being part of an uplifting team throughout my degree.

The Baltic Dance Academy and Performance House

Design Preface

The Baltic Dance Academy situated in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle provides a creative hub for the exploration of dance and rhythm.

The space provides a wide range of inspiring spaces to learn, rehearse and perform.

The main preface is that anywhere in the building can be used as a stage or rehearsa space as the building provides many open plan spaces filled with light.

Essentially, the buildings itself is a peformance

the idea that dancer’s forms can be split into two

This then inspired the form of the design to be split into two and splitting the circulation into two - public and private

Moving onto the initial design stage

Weather or Not

Located just by Lake Windermere in the Lake District, this weather research centre provides spaces to learn, research and explore whilst providing stunning views to Lake Windermere.

The project focused on providing a sustainable space for both the public and private occupants.

The design consists of using renewable materials such as Douglas Fir and having a green roof. A water conserving system is also in place where rainwater is collected and used around the building.

Bombed Out Church Pavilion

This pavilion designed for the WOW fest in Liverpool focuses on the idea of impermanence and how things can still make a lasting impact even though they are temporary.

The Bombed Out Church is a suitable place to reflect and appreciate, making it a suitable site for the project.

The pavilion provides multiple spaces to give talks, readings, presentations or to just sit, listen and reflect.

Design Concept:

The main concept being impermanence in the urban realm, pavilion architecture and the power of text, spoken word and/or stories.
