The design concept for the spa came from the idea of ‘the meander’. Having the space between the space being just as important as the spaces themselves. This inferred the idea of wanting to get lost when exploring the building. Along with this, looking into the benefits of bathing. Bathing improves mental health conditions due to the idea that you mentally escape when taking part in the activity. This then developed the programme and introduce council rooms that would compliment the act of bathing.

6121AR ‘Weather or Not’ Experimental Design 3 Origination
Following from the thematic essay, the clear theme I want to explore more is how a timber gridshell roof structure is a sustainable and climate friendly structure due to its lightweight and strong form. The inital design idea was to then take the gridshell roof and make it the centre point and for everything else within the building to highlight the roof above. Moving into resolving the design, it was clear the roof needed to be separated and act more as a canopy with all the spaces living underneath it. This would make the roof more of a spectical as well as a design feature.

With the site being Everton Park, introducing a library that acted as a school for the disadvantaged children in the near area lead the way for the design. Due to the area being fairly wooded, encorparating the woods into the design drove the form of the building. The design was inspired by my interpretation of the wooded space next to the site. Having the form of the building represent the forest would both dictate the spaces as well as create what feels like a indoor/ outdoor experience inside. The main spaces would all be in separate buildings, with a large atrium space that connects them all. Having the structure exposed would further emphasise the feeling of being in a forest with the structure being a Glulam frame.

5121AR/ 5122AR Urban Design project
The initial idea was to bring an outdoor social space to Stafford Street as that is the heart of the fabric district and where most of the fabric shops are located. The social space would be in the road that would be pedestrianised. And on the road would be a variety of spaces used for different activities. Examples such as a market space, water features, and green spaces that can be adapted for different purposes throughout the year. The primary feature would be a walkwat that would run over the road from top to bottom. Moving forward with 5122AR, the goal was to make the walkway more useful and connect it to the rooftops of the fabric shops on stafford street to allow different levels of activity.

The craft I chose to pursue and investigate was the craft of baking bread. This allowed me to study the history of how bread impacted different cultures and how prominent it was/ is in communities. Elements of the building design included a large brick oven/ chimney that lived between the public cafe space and the main kitchen and would act as the centrepiece of the building. The materiality was key with the lower level being brick to follow the traditional way of baking bread (brick oven) and the upper levels use aluminium cladding to represent the evolution of baking technology.

The theme I used for the space was the theme of isolation and contemplation. This helped me create a space that focused on dark and light spaces, and open and claustrophobic spaces. The entire exterior would be black brick to take away distraction and allow the user of the space to focus on contemplation. Other features are usually shaped windows to create a variety of lighting effects throughout the day.
