WELCOME TO DONCASTER RACECOURSE

Hello and welcome to Doncaster Racecourse for the first fixture of the British Flat Turf season – The Pertemps Network Lincoln We are delighted you’ve joined us here today as we open ‘The Greatest Show’!

We would like to thank our sponsor Pertemps Network for their generous support of today’s fixture We have a division so there are 8 races on the card, with the last race taking place at 5:50pm. Our raceday presenter Bobby Beevers and resident tipster Roger Hart will be in the Parade Ring at around 1:15pm to run through the racecard with you, and will keep you updated on all the action throughout the day!

The highlight of today’s fixture is the Pertemps Network Lincoln Handicap at 3:35pm which is run over a straight mile and is open to four-year-old runners or older The race was inaugurated at Lincoln’s Carholme Racecourse 1853 as the Lincoln Spring Handicap, won by Caurire, and was renamed the Lincolnshire Handicap in 1859 Lincoln Racecourse closed in 1964 and the Lincolnshire Handicap was transferred to Doncaster and renamed the Lincoln Handicap Only two runners have ever won this race twice – Ob in 1906 and 1907 and then Babur in 1957 and 1958. Last year the Lincoln Handicap was won by Silvestre De Sousa on Johan, trained by Mick Channon.

There are plenty of ‘The Greatest Show’ photo opportunities throughout the site today and circus entertainers for you to enjoy. Please share your photos with us on social media @ DoncasterRaces – we’d love to see them! We have a DJ in the Exhibition Hall throughout the day and don’t miss our very own ‘Ringmaster Ryan’ who will be in the Parade Ring for the feature race!

Tomorrow is our Lincoln Weekend Family Fun Day where as always, there’ll be lots of FREE entertainment for the kids – including a Circus Workshop, Kids Disco, Jugglers, Stilt Walkers, Punch & Judy Show, a Magician and Facepainting. Our friends at Active Fusion will be on the Champagne Lawn hosting some fun activities and the Fairground will be open on the Family Lawn (please note, there will be a charge for the rides) plus, of course, 7 thrilling flat races for you to enjoy! Children age 17 and under are FREE, and guests age 60 and over receive 50% off Grandstand and Family Enclosure tickets when booked on the day with a valid photo ID –making this a great-value family day out!

You are cordially invited to the Coronation Race Evening on Saturday 6th May where we will be celebrating all things Royal and British in commemoration of the coronation of King Charles. As well as the racing, there’ll be a best-dressed King or Queen competition and a ‘right royal disco’ in the Exhibition Hall after racing.

Our Live After Racing artists have been announced! On Saturday 1st July Clean Bandit will perform Live After Racing and on Saturday 19th August, you won’t want to miss Hacienda

TIMEFORMVIEWImpressive when scoring by a wide margin on his debut at Nottingham and had no trouble following up in 10.2f novice at Newcastle. Took form to another level when narrow winner of Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot. Not disgraced back down in trip when fourth in Grand Prix de Paris and this test will suit.

Star Ratings Explained

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

HHHHH Selected to win the race.

HHHHI Good chance of being placed.

HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope.

HIIII Can be given little or no chance.

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.

The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).

The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

The market should provide plenty of clues for the curtain-raiser to the Turf Flat season, but the speedily-bred INDICATION CALL is an obvious place to start given the form of Karl Burke’s juveniles last term. Valadero’s sales price rose significantly from foal to yearling and he looks another likely type, while Loaded Gun is an interesting contender for Andrew Balding 1-2-3: 1.INDICATION CALL

RACE STATS RACE SUMMARY

TROPEZ POWER is thriving under the tutelage of John Quinn yet can race off a 1lb lower mark than when an excellent Newcastle second last time out so is fancied to bag a third win of 2023. Course-scorer Broken Spear could emerge as the chief threat if, as expected, building on his comeback run with fine 5lb claimer Billy Loughnane now in the saddle. Low-mileage duo Baltimore Boy andThe Gatekeeper along with last year’s winner Arthur’s Realm complete the shortlist.

A starting point of the season for most of these and one that boasts an excellent record fresh is COMMANCHE FALLS. LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): D O’Meara (17 wins from 215 runners, 8%) runs KALAHARI PRINCE TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): L Russell (4 wins from 35 runners, 11%) runs AONE ALLY LONGEST TRAVELLER: AONE ALLY trained by L Russell, Kinross, 250 miles.

AONE ALLY and handicap-debutant Highlighter both have low mileage and could be the pair to concentrate on The latter has clearly been brought along with handicaps very much in mind and is not passed over lightly, but Aone Ally went close over this C&D on his latest start in this sphere and, while that was back in October 2021, he shaped as though plenty of ability remains when third over hurdles in February. Das Kapital and Peripeteia are each-way contenders.
