Star Ratings Explained
Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below: HHHHH Selected to win the race. HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. HHHHI Good chance of being placed. HIIII Can be given little or no chance. HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS EXPLAINED The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.
WHERE TO BET There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has selling points throughout the racecourse - easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs. The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection. Mimimum Stakes The Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt – just ask.

REECELTIC’s latest Chelmsford second shows he’s still in good form so he gets the nod back at the scene of his win in March. Bird of Life isn’t one for maximum faith but she’ll go close if in the same form as at Wolverhampton last time. Go Fox should also figure for his new stable on the back of his recent Catterick claiming success. 1-2-3: 1.REECELTIC 2.BIRD FOR LIFE 3.GO FOX KEY colours

There’s surely more to come from lightlyraced pair AEONIAN and Big Meeting, with narrow preference for the former who posted a useful effort in what was likely a good race at Haydock on his return and can make light of an opening mark in the low-90s. RACE STATS LEADING COURSE TRAINER (17-22): R Hannon (84 wins from 544 runners, 15%) runs AN ANGEL’S DREAM TRAINER-IN-FORM (LAST 14 DAYS): R Hannon (8 wins from 53 runners, 15%) runs AN ANGEL’S DREAM LONGEST TRAVELLER: MIGHTY MIND trained by S Pearce, Newmarket, 95 miles. RACE SUMMARY
It could be worth chancing TIME TO BURN, who posted her best effort since finishing third in a big-field Fairyhouse maiden for previous connections last summer when third in a 1 1/2m handicap here nine days ago. This intermediate trip could be just what she needs. Janus’ recent spin over hurdles should have blown away the cobwebs and he is feared back in this sphere. No Such Luck also enters calculations and Joanie’s Girl makes some each-way appeal. 1-2-3: 1.TIME TO BURN (IRE) 2.JANUS (IRE) 3.NO SUCH LUCK (IRE) KEY colours
