KEY Owner Breeding Breeder Jockey Trainer Sponsor Star Ratings Explained Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:
HHHHH Selected to win the race HHHHI Good chance of being placed HHHII By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims
OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS
HHIII Unlikely to win but not totally without hope HIIII Can be given little or no chance.
EXPLAINED
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating

There are a variety of places to bet at the course; The Tote has
points throughout the racecourse easily identified by the Tote Betting or totepool signs The bookmakers are located in front of the grandstand in the ‘Betting Ring’. The bookmakers display their odds for each race and compete to offer the best price to customers. These are fixed price bets and the amount of your winnings will be printed on your betting slip. Search around to get the best price for your selection.
Tote has a minimum bet of £2. The bookmakers vary but if they have a minimum it will be shown on the boards displaying their odds. If in doubt just ask.

Today Mary-Ann Sandercock, author of Her Horseracing Dreams is signing copies of her first novel. If you’re looking for a stocking filler for a racing/horse-mad friend or relative or fancy a good book to read yourself, this will fit the bill!
Her Horseracing Dreams is a No.1 Bestseller on Amazon in the category Equestrian Sports Fiction for Young Adults. It follows young Ellie Simpson from starting her dream job as a stable groom with leading Lambourn flat racehorse trainer, to being granted her apprentice jockey licence. It is a whirlwind ride, which is both informative and entertaining. There are highs and lows, but the highs by far outreach Ellie’s wildest dreams.
Author Mary-Ann Sandercock has worked in the horseracing industry for nearly forty years. She worked closely with racecourses in sponsorship and commercial roles, as well as managing fundraising events and PR for horseracing charities. For 30 years she rode out regularly and had a few rides on the flat describing herself as a ‘very boggy’ amateur

GOEMON left his unpromising debut well behind when landing a C&D novice on his second and final appearance for Roger Varian in May, form which hasn’t worked out at all badly (race has thrown up half-a-dozen subsequent winners). Provided all is well following a break, he should be capable of defying a penalty before going on to better things. Later Darling will be a threat if able to get back on track but, as things stand, Idee Fixee and Lady Loulou appear to be the main dangers
