sTeP 1: Arrange caramels on a waxed paper-lined baking sheet. Soften caramels first, if necessary. Use the back of a metal spatula or large spoon to flatten caramels to about 1/4” thickness. Use your finger to shape as desired. sTeP 2: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips in the microwave according to package directions. Stir until smooth. Add cereal and stir until well combined. sTeP 3: Coat each flattened caramel in melted chocolate mixture and transfer to waxed paper. sTeP 4: Refrigerate until chocolate is solid. ENJOY! WEST VIRGINIA CHICKEN CASSEROLE 4 cups cooked chicken 2 cans cream of chicken soup MIX TOGETHER: 3-3/4 cups water 1 tsp. salt 1/3 cup margarine or butter 1-2/3 cups milk 1/2 tsp. onion powder 3-3/4 cups instant mashed potato flakes (mix potato mixture as per directions on box) 1/2 cup sour cream 3 oz. cream cheese 6 oz. Stove Top dressing (or another brand) Layer chicken in bottom of 9x13 casserole dish. Spread soup on top of chicken. Cook Stove Top dressing according to package directions. Oh, hOw farming has changed in 60 years!
Robert and Linda Watkins of Sidney took great-grandchildren Adalynn (4) and Atlas (2) Graves out to their field to explain how the ground was prepared for planting when they were their age. The kids probably didn’t understand much of what they were told, but they LOVE spending time with their great-grandparents out on the farm. Even those who have been in farming for many decades find the equipment and methods used today are far different – and a vast improvement – over the way farming was done long ago. Adalynn and Atlas are the children of Keifer Graves and Amanda Smith, also of Sidney. Great-Grandpa Robert doesn’t spend all his time in the field, however. He may look familiar to some of our Country Living advertisers, as he is also our sales representative!
