On behalf of the Bradford Area Association of Churches (BAAC) and Resource Center we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contributed in any way to make 2021 such a wonderful year for our community. Our shelves have remained full because of the efforts of all of the churches, the Bradford school system, community organizations, and all of the wonderful donators in the surrounding area. This association could not operate without any of you, whether your contributions are small or large, and your food donations are one item or many. With this being said, it was decided, because of the lack of need for help, our shelves remaining full, and items approaching their expiration dates, that we had to make some hard decisions. It was decided to donate our leftover items to Amvets Post 66 for their Christmas baskets which helped Bradford and Covington families. There was food left that was sent to Kentucky after the tornadoes, so nothing was wasted. We thank the members of Amvets for picking up and delivering the items. Also, we want to thank you for your help with the Thanksgiving Dinner. The Community Club provided the building, Dottie Carder and her crew prepared the meal, the runners, delivery people, clean-up crew, and the churches for providing the funding and the pumpkin pies. This worked out very well and we hope to provide this meal again this year on November 20, the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Thanks so much to all of you. Other changes have also been made for the Resource Center. Mary Alice Yount is now acting as advisor to Debby Jess, who was appointed Finance Officer. Debby will continue to advise and ask her about all that takes place with the Resource Center. And, once again, for those of you in the community who need the services offered by the BAAC Resource Center, you may still contact Debby at 937-216-8452 for help with food or utilities during the year. It has been Mary Alice’s and my pleasure to serve you as co-directors of the Resource Center since 2003 and we look forward to helping you again in 2022. Mary Alice Yount & Debby Jess

Village of Covington Receives $500,000 Land & Water Conservation Fund Grant for Construction of Schoolhouse Park Project – Phase 1 The Village of Covington was one of six projects chosen in the State of Ohio for funding through the Land & Water Conservation Fund, a grant of $500,000, for the construction of Schoolhouse Park – Phase 1. With the Land & Water Conservation Fund Grant, a $450,000 donation from the UVMC Parent Board that was announced in January, and donations and pledges from many residents and businesses from in and around Covington, the Village has raised over $1,250,000 from grants and private donations towards the park to date and looks to continue applying for grants and fundraising in 2022 to complete the remaining elements and phases of the park. “We have been working to fundraise and design Schoolhouse Park for over three years, and we are finally ready to build it,” said Mayor Ed McCord. “We are grateful that the State of Ohio Land & Water Conservation Fund Grant committee felt our project was worthy of being one of six projects funded within the entire State of Ohio. We look forward to seeing this dream become a reality.” Schoolhouse Park, located in the heart of Covington, is the first new park within the Village of Covington in over 100 years. The Park will be completed in multiple phases, with Phase 1 starting construction this year and being completed and open to the public in 2023. Phase 1 will include a pavilion and restrooms, a splashpad, an amphitheater, food truck parking, and a large gathering space for events. “This project continues to help weave the unique fabric of Covington,” said Village Administrator Kyle Hinkelman. “The residents, businesses, and non-profits deserve this space to enjoy a summer day at the splashpad, a fall night at the amphitheater, or to just gather on a Wednesday to talk.” Phase 1 donations will be closed June 1. Phase 1 donors will be recognized on a plaque that will be within the pavilion. To make a donation to Schoolhouse Park – Phase 1 or to get more information on the Village of Covington’s Schoolhouse Park project, please go to the Village of Covington’s website – www.covington-oh.gov or contact the Village Administrator directly.
