Camp Encourage Returns EverHeart Hospice is excited to host Camp Encourage: Colors, Coping, and Connection, on Friday, June 17, and Saturday, June 18. This complimentary workshop is for children who have experienced the death of someone they loved and provides them a place to come together in an atmosphere of love and acceptance. This year’s Camp Encourage will be presented in a workshop format, with three different time slots to choose from: Friday, June 17, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.; Friday, June 17, 4-8 p.m.; or Saturday, June 18, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The workshop is open to any child ages 6 to 15, courtesy of EverHeart Hospice. Colors, Coping, and Connection will guide children to cope through creative adventures with hands-on activities and a meal. Each session will be held outdoors at their Greenville office, located at 1350 N. Broadway St. Camp Encourage has been a longstanding event at EverHeart Hospice since 2000. With a core value of being community-focused, Camp Encourage is just one of the many ways EverHeart reaches out to serve area communities. Sarah DePoy, Camp Director and Bereavement Coordinator with EverHeart Hospice, is looking forward to bringing back camp this year, as they have been unable to hold it in person for the past two years due to Covid. She shared, “I am very excited to be able to host camp in person again! Although camp will look different than previous years, the goal is still the same, to provide children with the tools and support they need through their grieving process.” Erica Wood, Business Development Specialist with EverHeart, shared that camp would not be possible if not for the generous donors and their donations to camp each year. “The donations we receive from grants and contributions truly make a difference by allowing us to think of new activities we can provide for the kids to help them on their journey through grief. We want to thank everyone who has donated over the years to Camp Encourage.” Applications are available online at www.everhearthospice.org under “News and Events, Camp Encourage.” For more information, please contact Camp Director Sarah DePoy at 937-316-0005.

Local Libraries Offer Free Tech Support Through Guiding Ohio Online Free one-on-one technology help is being offered at Tipp City Public Library, Troy-Miami County Public Library, Oakes-Beitman Memorial Library, and Milton-Union Public Library. Guiding Ohio Online is a State Library of Ohio administered competitive LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) grant. This program seeks to bridge gaps in access to technology and increase digital literacy in rural communities throughout Ohio. According to the research conducted by Guiding Ohio Online: ● 29% of lower-income Americans don’t own a smartphone. ● 35% of U.S. adults with household incomes below $35,000 don’t use the Internet. ● More than 300,000 households in Ohio, which is close to one million Ohioans, lack access to high speed Internet. The program hopes to create technology users who are able to fully participate in online government, search and apply for jobs online, and utilize digital resources for financial, social, historical, and informational needs, with an understanding of their digital footprint and how to protect their personal information. The $11,520 grant aims to accomplish this goal by placing technology trainers in the community to offer one-on-one assistance, classroom instruction, and outreach programs. “The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated trends in how libraries provide our services and technology has been at the center of it,” said Drew Wichterman, Assistant Director/Adult Services Librarian and project coordinator of the Guiding Ohio Online program. “We know that our patrons need help and we will assist them with their technology needs.”

Patrons with questions about Libby, Hoopla, or their device can stop by their library to have questions answered or schedule an appointment. The “Bring Your Own Device” program will be offered at Milton-Union Public Library 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Call the library at 937-698-5515 to be sure the technology trainer will be available when you wish to come in. Please call the Oakes-Beitman Library in Pleasant Hill at 937-676-2731 for dates and times offered at that location. Walk-ins are always welcome and the technology trainer is happy to assist with computer and smartphone basics, e-mail, Microsoft Office, resumés and job search, digital library resources (Hoopla, Libby, etc.), government websites, genealogy resources, and more! In addition to tech support inside the library, the technology trainer will also be available to support community members outside the home via house calls and phone sessions. Appointments outside the library can be made by calling your library. The Guiding Ohio Online program was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the State Library of Ohio.
