BHS Community Blood Drive Announced Help save lives during a time of critical need and get a chance to “Pick Your Prize” when you donate at the Bradford High School community blood drive Monday, Aug. 15, 3-7 p.m., at 750 Railroad Ave., Bradford. Make an appointment online at www.donortime.com; call 937461-3220; or download the new Donor Time app. Everyone who registers to donate thru August 27 at any CBC blood drive or the Dayton CBC Donation Center will be entered in weekly “Pick Your Prize” drawings for a PlayStation5, a Solo Stove, a YETI Hopper Backpack Cooler, or a Ring Video Doorbell Pro. Each weekly winner will get to choose from the same four prizes. All registered donors will also get the “Hit a Double” insulated beverage bottle, while supplies last. August is traditionally a challenging month for maintaining the blood supply because of final summer travel and back-to-school preparations. Adding to the challenge is the high demand for type O blood. Save time when you donate by downloading the new Donor Time app. You can also use “DonorXPress” to complete the donor questionnaire before arriving at a blood drive. Find DonorXPress on the Donor Time App or at www.givingblood.org/donorxpress.

As we’ve said many times, the Stillwater Valley Advertiser is not a newspaper in the sense most think of a newspaper. The key is in our name – AdVertiSer. This publication relies on paid advertising to generate income for printing/postage costs, staff salaries, and building/equipment maintenance. However, the Advertiser is pleased to be of service to the community by offering open space – when available – to help our readers share news they feel is of interest to the community, such as engagements, weddings, milestone birthdays and anniversaries, birth announcements, five generation pictures, Vacation Bible Schools, library programs, school and club events, etc. If an organization, even non-profits like Veterans organizations, charge for a steak, chicken, or fish fry, we can’t offer free advertising to them, as their event competes with area restaurants who do pay for display advertising. Churches also compete with restaurant advertisers when they host Chili and Spaghetti Dinners, etc. The key is in what is done with the funds generated. For example, a church hosting a dinner to raise money for a new organ would be charged to advertise that event. However, if the church is hosting a dinner to benefit a family experiencing a health crisis or who have lost their home in a fire, the Advertiser waives the cost of advertising as our contribution to the effort. Those wishing to advertise an event that does charge an admittance fee can do so by including that information in our Calendar of Events for just $15 per week. If you question whether or not your event qualifies for free advertising, feel free to call our office at 937-473-2028, Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Our helpful staff will be happy to assist you, or will direct your call to Gary Godfrey, president of Arens Corporation.

Combine the power of print with the power of the internet All of our advertising is also available on line...

On Thursday, June 9, Milton-Union Public Library was host to Linda Raterman, Information/Public Relations Specialist for the Miami County Soil and Water Conservation District. She presented a program on local streams, complete with stream table, to a crowd of young library visitors. The next time these kids visit a stream they’ll take that knowledge with them!

Books Aren’t the Only Things Juggled at the Milton Library Milton-Union Public Library hosted Pastor Robbie Scott on Wednesday, June 15, as part of their summer reading program – “Oceans of Possibilities.” Pastor Scott taught the kids the basics of juggling as well as showed off some skills of his own, such as juggling fire on the library’s front lawn.

EverHeart Hospice is pleased to welcome Angie Didier as their new Chief Quality Officer. Didier received her LPN from MVCTC and her RN from Excelsior College. She is also a Certified Dementia Practitioner. She shared that she became interested in working at EverHeart because, “I love EverHeart’s mission and commitment to providing quality care to those they serve. I have Angie DiDier worked alongside EverHeart Hospice through my work in healthcare and have always been impressed with the care and compassion of the EverHeart staff.” When asked what led her to choose a position in the Hospice field, Didier shared, “I believe providing hospice care to patients and their families is an honor and privilege.”

EverHeart Hospice Welcomes Team Members EverHeart Hospice welcomes Jeralayne Ruiz, Board Certified Music Therapist, and Sara Neal, Social Worker, to its Hospice Care Team. Ruiz grew up in New York and moved to Ohio to attend Ohio University for Undergraduate and Graduate School. There, she earned two Master's degrees, one in Music Therapy and one in Voice Performance/Pedagogy. Ruiz is a classically trained singer and has performed in several operas and musicals, even performing on stage with the Rolling Stones in 2015. When asked what inspired her to work at EverHeart Hospice, Ruiz shared that her predecessor, Carrie Whatley, "always spoke so fondly of the EverHeart team. The supportive network that EverHeart seems to have made me excited to join the team!" Ruiz shared her motivation for working in the hospice field, stating, "It is a gift and privilege to share music, moments, and memories with patients and families at end-of-life. Being able to honor and celebrate a life is so special." Sara Neal joins the team as a social worker. She attended Wright State University, obtaining her BSW, LSW, and CSWMFT. She has seven years of social service experience and was led to EverHeart while searching for a position that was part-time and close to home. She wanted to work for an organization that held high values and practiced standards. Neal shared she was also interested in the Hospice field, stating, "It’s rewarding to help patients and their families find peace and closure while assisting them with their needs."
