Where will I study?

This short full-time course will be taught at your local centre. The course will be taught over three days per week for a period of 19 weeks.

What qualifications do I need to

enrol on this course? Students require 3 standard grades for entry to this course, one of which should be Maths. All students will attend an interview, and suitable students would have a genuine interest in music, sound and sound production. All students should possess level 4 (intermediate 1) Communication or equivalent.Work Experience and / or other suitable qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

Will I receive a recognised qualification?

Yes, upon completing the course you will receive the SQA Group award NC Sound Production at SCQF Level 6.

How can I continue to develop my skills? After successfully completing the course you will be able to progress to HNC, or even to degree level study, in Sound Production.


Why should I consider an NC Sound Production course? Do you want to learn the practical and theoretical skills involved in sound production, the music business and performance? Do you want to enhance your career prospects with an industry recognised qualification which not only develops practical recording skills but considers the music and audio industry in its many guises. Do you want to work towards a qualification which will enable you to study further at HNC level and beyond? If yes, then this course may well be the right course for you. You may be a school leaver looking to study for a future career. You could already be working within the music and audio industry but looking to improve your skills. Or you may be a more mature student wishing to change career direction and return to study. Taught over a period of 19 weeks, the course will help you develop your skills and gain confidence and practical experience in a broad range of practical recording tasks. You will also be given the opportunity to explore some of the very diverse areas which exist within the music and audio industry including recorded music, TV, radio, film and computer games

Appreciation of Music
