Why should I consider an NC in Travel and Tourism?
Do you want to improve your skills in the diverse and fast evolving field of travel and tourism? Do you want to enhance your career prospects with a formal qualification that will help you enter, or progress within, the travel and tourism workplace? Do you want to work towards a qualification which will enable you to study further at National Certificate or even degree level? If yes, then this course may well be the right course for you. You may be a school leaver looking to study for a future career. You could already be working in the world of travel and tourism but looking to improve your skills. Or you may be a more mature student wishing to change career direction and return to study. Taught over a period of six months, the course will help you develop and improve your skills and gain confidence and practical experience in the many and varied disciplines of the travel and tourism arena.
What will I study? The course will introduce the following required areas: • • • • • •
Business Practices in Travel and Tourism Selling Skills Skills for Customer Care Tourist Destinations Introduction to Travel and Tourism Enhancing Skills for Employment
You will also be able to study further in other areas which may interest you specifically – Front of Office Skills, Event Organisation, Scottish Tourism, Local Tourism, Marketing, Food Hygiene, First Aid and Working Safely in the Hospitality Industry
Where will I study?
This short full-time course will be taught at your local centre. The course will be taught over three days per week for a period of six months starting in October 2011.
What qualifications do I need to enrol on this course?
Potential students will require either Standard Grade English, a similar social subject at General Level or Intermediate 1 Travel and Tourism. Mature students will be considered based on interview.
Will I receive a recognised qualification?
Yes, upon completing the course you will receive the SQA group award NC Travel and Tourism at SCQF Level 5.
Can I study any of the units within the course on a part-time basis?
Yes, if you would like to study part-time you can study for the National Course in Tourism which will consist of 3 units. You may also study units individually.
How can I continue to develop my skills?
After successfully completing the course you will be able to progress to NC Travel and Tourism Level 6 or even to degree level study with a BA in Tourism and Hospitality Practice.
