Where will I study?

This full-time course will be taught at your local centre.

What qualifications do I need to enrol on this course? Entry to the course is at the discretion of the centre but students are advised to have completed the Working in the Community course. Those students with previous experience in youth work will also be considered.

How can I continue to develop my skills? A natural next step for those students who wish to build upon and develop their skills is the SVQ Level 3 Youth Work course.


Why should I consider a Youth Work SVQ Level 2 course? Are you looking to follow a career in community or youth work? Do you want to enhance your career prospects with a formal qualification that will help you progress further within the youth work field? Do you want to develop and hone your organisational, planning and interpersonal skills in a variety of youth based situations? If yes, then this course may well be the right course for you. You may be a school leaver looking to study for a future career. Or you could already be working in a youth based environment but looking to improve your knowledge and skills. The course will be highly practical in nature and will provide the opportunity for the students to experience and develop both interpersonal and communication skills. This course will explore and develop the knowledge, organisational and planning skills required not only to meet the needs of young people in a variety of situations but also to ensure the effective operation of youth based groups.


The course will introduce the following mandatory areas: • Establish Relationships and Maintain Dialogue with Young People • Work as an Effective and Reflective Practitioner • Work in Ways that Promote Equality of Opportunity, Participation and Responsibility • Work with Young People to Safeguard their Welfare Students will also complete one optional unit from a range of units in areas including: review progress and evaluate opportunities with young people, advocate on behalf of young people, enable young people to be active citizens and enable young people to develop awareness of their self identity and being. In addition to the studied units, students will undertake a work experience placement.
