Where will I study?

This full-time course will be taught at your local centre.

What qualifications do I need to enrol on this course? Although there are no specific entry requirements for this course applicants must demonstrate a keen interest in sport and fitness or an active involvement within a sport or fitness based organisation. All applications will be subject to an interview.

Will I receive a recognised qualification? Yes, upon completing the course you will achieve an SQA group award at level 4.

How can I continue to develop my skills? When you have successfully completed this course you may progress to higher level study in sports coaching or health and fitness. Alternatively students could consider a Modern Apprenticeship in sports coaching or instructing exercise and fitness.


Why should I consider an NC level course in Sport and Fitness? Do you want learn basic skills and start to gain practical experience in the varied disciplines of sport and fitness? Do you want to enhance your employability skills and career prospects with a recognised qualification which will help to prepare you for a future career in sport and fitness? Do you want to work towards a qualification which will enable you to continue to study at a higher level? If yes, then this course may well be the right course for you. This new NC level course in Sport and Fitness has been designed to develop both practical and core skills whilst gaining hands on experience of the sport and fitness arena. Students will have the opportunity to explore areas such as active session planning, performance nutrition and health and wellbeing. The course also provides the opportunity for a greater understanding of the sport and fitness work environment, preparing students for a career within the industry or further education within the field.


The course will introduce a number of required areas including: • Exercise and fitness • Assisting with activity sessions • Dealing with accidents and emergencies • Performance nutrition, health and wellbeing • Personal fitness Students will also be given the opportunity to study in a range of sport based disciplines such as: Orienteering, Shinty, Swimming, Tennis, Golf, Badminton, Rugby Football, Volleyball, Association Football and Hillwalking.
