YOUR LOCAL COLLEGE
Where will I study?
The course will be taught at your local centre.
What qualifications do I need to enrol on this course?
Potential students will require four Standard Grades at Level 3 or above, or will have successfully completed Towards a Career in Childcare.
How can I continue to develop my childcare skills? A natural next step for those students who wish to develop their skills further would be SVQ3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development.
Why should I consider an SVQ2 Children’s Care, Learning and Development course? Do you want to learn the basic skills required to work with children from 0-16 years of age? Do you want to embark on a career in childcare at Nursery Assistant level? Do you want to work towards a recognised professional qualification which will enable you to study further at SVQ3 level and beyond? If yes, then SVQ2 Children’s Care, Learning and Development is the right course for you. Taught full-time, this course is suitable for both school leavers and more mature students wishing to return to learning or looking to change career direction. The course is designed to equip you with the basic theoretical and practical skills required for progression towards a career in the childcare industry. The course will be very practical in nature and students will spend three days each week in placements which will allow them to gain hands-on experience in the workplace.
The course will introduce the following required areas: •
Contribute to positive relationships
•
Help to keep children safe
•
Support children’s development
•
Develop your practice in children’s care, learning and development
•
Prepare and maintain environments to meet children’s needs
•
Support children’s learning through play
You will also be able to study further in one area which interests you specifically – team effectiveness, supporting development of the under three’s, supporting the child with additional needs, creating play spaces or contributing to acquiring a new language in the early years. On achievement of this qualification, students will be able to register as a support worker with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
